We are hosting our 22nd Sugar Bars Legacy Sale in beautiful and historic Sheridan, Wyoming and are excited to announce that the sale will be broadcast online this year, through Frontier Live Sale. We hope this will benefit all those that cannot attend the sale in person. Registration information will be listed in the catalog; along with a link on our website and Facebook page, for those wanting to bid online. We thank and welcome all our buyers, consigners, staff, and friends that have made our sale possible. Bar M Quarter Horses established the sale to preserve the bloodlines of the late American Quarter Horse stallion, Sugar Bars. As with tradition, the Sugar Bars Legacy Sale Association will be hosting the sale this year; and it includes an exciting variety of outstanding Sugar Bars bred horses- meeting the needs of those interested in halter, performance, ranch, recreation, or those looking to take home a well-bred broodmare.
SUNDAY, September 22nd- SALE Day! The sale begins with the selection of the WILD CARD weanling; and will then proceed in catalog order! We have limited the number of weanlings and yearlings this year, so make sure you come early and be ready to bid. The lineup of riding horses includes young ones just started; to the well started performance prospect, the all-around ranch horse, finished- arena, trail, and family horses. A select group of Sugar Bars bred saddle horses will sell early among the weanlings/ yearlings—we will announce lot numbers early on sale day!
Our weekend of events will start off on SATURDAY, September 21st with the Yearling Halter Futurity and Ranch Horse Versatility Futurity for 2- & 3-Year old’s. All weanlings sold at the 2023 sale are eligible to compete in the Yearling Futurity. To compete in the ranch horse versatility your horse must have sold in 2021 or 2022 as a weanling or as a yearling in 2022 or 2023 through our sale (eligibility transfer with horse).

TERMS & CONDITIONS: Terms of sale are cash, personal check, cashier’s check (U.S. Funds), credit cards (with 4% convenience fee added). In addition to cost of horse, brand inspection fee & health inspection fee for each horse purchased. Each animal sells to the highest bidder with auctioneer settling bidding disputes. Registration paper and transfer will be given to the buyer at the sale- if ALL information is complete on the transfer- including the sellers’, the horses’, the sale and the buyer’s information. All incomplete transfers will be held along with the registration paper, until the secretary is contacted with the complete buyer information. Any consignors that do not have registration papers back from AQHA need to mail them to SBLS Secretary, and then they will be sent onto the buyer, along with the transfer. Announced catalog changes on sale day take precedence over this printed book. Horses will sell in catalog order unless otherwise specified. A Wyoming Veterinarian and Wyoming State Brand Inspector will be at the sale to assist buyers. ALL horses sell with a negative Coggins test and current health papers. We strongly encourage buyers to carefully inspect the horses before bidding. There are no further guarantees unless specified by seller. All horses are buyer’s property as soon as sold; and buyer assumes all liability & expense. No delivery is available until final settlement on all purchases. Buyers must arrange for care of horses at their own risk until delivery of horse(s). Consignors will provide a Halter and lead rope for each horse sold. SBLS or its members or the Sheridan County Fairgrounds assume no liability for defects in the quality, soundness, or condition of the horses-WHATSOEVER. Any person attending this sale does so at their own risk. Neither the owners, Sugar Bars Legacy Sale or its members, Sheridan County Fairgrounds, nor any other person connected with this sale assumes any liability, legal or otherwise.
Our Yearling Halter and 2/3 Ranch Horse Versatility Futurities include open and youth classes. Yearling halter classes will be Conformation and In-Hand Trail, they for any weanling horse purchased at our 2023. We will have both open and youth classes. We established the RHV class to demonstrate the versatility of the Sugar Bars bloodline; each entry will show in: Conformation, Maneuvers and Trail. Combined scores from each class will determine a Hi-Point Open and Youth 2 &3 Yr. Old Ranch Horse. Weanlings purchased at the 2021 or 2022 sale & yearlings purchased at the 2022 or 2023 are eligible to compete in the RHV. We are pleased to announce the Sugar Bars Legacy Sale “Wildcard.” The 1st horse sold in the sale will be a “wildcard.” The winning bidder for the “wildcard” lot will have his/her choice of any weanling in the sale. With no colt in the ring, the auctioneer will ask for bids on the “wildcard”. It will be auctioned in the same manner as every other weanling in the sale, apart from the fact that, no one will know until the bidding is over and the winning bidder chooses his/her weanling, which horse has actually been sold. That weanling must be claimed immediately on winning the bid – and then will be removed from the catalog order. The sale will resume with the remainder of the consigned weanlings in catalog order.

Blue Irish Cat is a nice gentle, shapey gelding that is easy to catch and handle. He is very athletic and has never offered to hump or buck. “Buddy” is a 5 year old gelding, born and raised in the Missouri Breaks in Garfield County, MT. Currently making a living near Miles City, MT. He is everything his name implies. As solid and trustworthy as they come, and has done all aspects of ranch work. From babysitting nieces and nephews to roping and doctoring yearlings and even packing a few elk out for 7W Ranch Outfitters. This past winter he worked at Circle B feedlot and was my go to horse for calving season. Buddy is easy to trim/shoe and has four solid black feet. He is good for all levels of riders. All auction funds, minus sale commission, go to the scholarship and are tax deductible above fair market value of the horse. 100% of money privately donated will be used in perpetuity to help students with financial need in Sheridan and Johnson counties and is tax deductible. Jack is a horseman’s horse. He is athletic, smart, confident, sensitive, sensible and pays attention. He has Two-Eyed Jack, top and bottom, but no papers. Brought in unhandled from Montana rangeland, I bought him as a four year old with untouched, perfect feet. I rode him the first times as a 6 year old last August with Miff ponying me. Miff would have taken him to make what she called an old lady rope horse, but colon cancer stopped her. I lost my focus and stopped riding. But then in May of this year Mark Koltiska and I designed Miff’s Scholarship fund and I put Jack back in training. Jack has never bucked, reared, kicked, bit or run me over, has had his teeth floated twice, ties well, and is bottom of the pecking order in the herd. He is not stubborn, spooky, barn/herd sour or scared of trains. He is 15.2 hands, liberty and R+ trained, and has a big honkin’ walk and trot. If you can lose your temper with a horse, he’s not the horse for you. If you treat him well he will give you his all. He has grit, speed, brains and heart. Pretty Shield is one cool horse. She is loaded with cow and is the most unique color I have ever seen. She stands about 15 hands. I have branded a pile of calves on her this spring and doctored yearlings. She is awesome! Pretty Shield tracks cattle really well and will cow up when sorting out of a herd. She has good lateral control, knows how to side pass, get gates, will pick up the correct lead, is good to shoe and has a heck of a stop. I really enjoy this mare! She is full of personality.
