“Art of Space creates temporary, highly interactive environmental art installations at various locations in Springfield, and on the Drury University campus, as spatial embodiments of community.
It fosters uplifting experiences analogous to community barn-raisings, privileging the creation of wonder and supportive social relationships over utility as a form of civic engagement.
Art of Space celebrates the vitality of Springfield through a communal process of making spatial art, inviting all members of the community to participate in the revitalization of Springfield’s urban districts.
Design concepts and methods take advantage of the modularity, availability, flexibility and costs of common materials ,that have an immediate connection to everyday lives. Each installation utilizes techniques that encourage participants to design the work as they build, coordinating individual efforts as a group towards a shared goal.�

Using the same technique as knitting scarves, we constructed knitting looms to knit this material. It was open to the public on First Friday Art Walk with a dance collaboration with nearby Missouri State University students.
Emergent Art with guest artist Blaine Whisenhunt. Using wood pallets that are seldom conceived as design objects, this space was created by stacking pallets. This installation was comissioned by the Springfield Arts Museum.

‘Qi’, understood as ‘life force’, also translates literally as ‘breath’. The installation was a collaboration by AIAS and Tau Sigma Delta at Drury University for the 2014 Beaux Arts Ball. It has origami balloons arranged in flowing, cloud like layers, each folded sheet inflated by the breath of an installation participant. These accumulated breaths are a representation of vitality, the life force of the community.
Wood slats were used to fabricate this structure that captures space and creates spaces for people to hang out. The community and the Art Of Space members came together to make this installation happen.

How can one slow down time? The answer could be architecture. Architecture is inscribed in space and time. Although space and time are two different things, they are intertwined so that one cannot isolate them. This semester long senior thesis explores architecture as a tool to manipulate the perception of time by offering spaces that slow people’s accelerated lifestyle in finding a balance that highlights quality living. It particularly bases on the Japanese “salarymen,” who work unrealistic hours in Tokyo, they are infamously known for commiting suicide to escape their robotic lifestyle.
Understanding and applying the four basic elements from a Buddhist’s perspective to bring balance into a salaryman’s life. Programs have been introduced, ordered and laid out to accentuate harmony.

“The park will act as one of the key nodes in the town of Aigina in remembering its rich history, respecting its present culture while looking haead into the future.”

Párko Laoú in Greek translates to the People’s Park. The park will act as one of the key nodes in the town of Aigina. It becomes part of an existing collection of hierarchical nodes. With the park serving as a node between the two most important nodes (archaelogical and cultural sites) it not only strengthens the connection but also creates a place to meet and linger for the community of Aigina. Since the island sees many weekend visitors, the park will be an addition to this attrative island life. The outdoor gym acts as an inviting place for exercise, while the outdoor amphitheater for festivals and events. A safe playground for kids to use. The park will further reactivate the southern side of the town, mainly the future cultural hub, linking it to the waterfront, the heart of the town. Activation of the site by bringing in activities from the waterfront to the new amphitheater, and sport facilities.

The connection of the city of Independence’s Courthouse Square and National Frontier Trails Museum celebrates the linkage of the city’s historic roots with its contemporary vitality. The goal is to establish connections via an urban park, and in the process creating an urban density while providing convenient and accessible transportation options. Implementing streetscaping as a unifying element extends the character of the park throughout the city center.
