TO DECORATE YOUR SUMMER

Everything about summer makes me giddy and super ambitious! I love spending all my extra time outside! Tons of planting and tending to the garden, new landscaping and creating my very own outdoor space.... but what about the indoors? Being the outdoorsy type, my indoor space tends to become completely abandoned during these months. The same old decor and accessories left over from the winter months becomes quite boring. If you’re like me a space like this is very mentally exhausting and depressing. So let’s take a deep breath of some fresh summer air and start to feel the creative juices flowing. Here are some ways I’m going to decorate my summer this year and I hope you do the same!

Clean, Clean, Clean - I completely missed “spring cleaning” this year….my bad. Spring or not, deep clean your house before you make any seasonal changes. It’s important to start with a clean canvas.

Add pops of colour - I Pulled out bright throws and accent pillows to lighten up my furniture, added bright coloured dishes and vibrant art! It’s all about making everything look light and airy! Natural Decor - I absolutely adore indoor plants, although I keep them all year round I always plan some extra trips to the local greenhouse to pick out something new for spring/summer. I also love starting my herbs or vegetables indoors on my kitchen window sill. If you don’t have a green thumb purchase some artificial plants (After all they are less work) You can also add sticks, rocks, shells and other pieces that inspire you from the outdoors. Fill your fireplaces - I unfortunately don’t have a fireplace in my home ( One day soon, I hope!) Fireplaces are a beautiful natural focal point and should always look inviting. Fill the hearth with nautical items, starfish, coral or simply just stack the leftover logs and add some candles. Dried flowers and some wicker also makes for great summer decor. Hang flowy and light curtains - Not only can you replace your indoor drapes with something these, but you can bring these to the outdoors (I just couldn’t resist mentioning the outdoors….oops!) Hang them in the sunroom, patios and pergolas. These draperies are great at creating privacy, shielding the sun and keeping the mosquitos away. Amp up the bar - I can ensure you that this would be my husband’s favourite point! There is no better season for those delicious, cold and fruity cocktails! Margaritas, mojitos, daiquiris, sangrias and the list goes on and on. Dedicate a spot for your summer bar! If you don’t have a “bar” find a small console or even an old dresser and dress it up with some bottles and cocktail supplies.

Now that we have completely transformed our indoors to look and feel more summery let’s not forget to enjoy the outdoors! The idea is to enjoy summer indoors and out. Plan family trips to the beach, long walks on those beautiful summer nights and end the day with a nice cuddle on the couch. 11
