Christmas Tradition Tradition. I really don’t know if I would consider myself…. Or maybe I don’t want to be known as being a “traditional” person. I do assume that I’m not alone in this….. But there is just something about Christmas traditions that make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I love reminiscing about my family’s Christmas traditions. I specifically remember waiting by the window for my Dad’s truck to pull onto the yard on Christmas Eve. Side note, I never understood why my Dad’s boss would make him work Christmas Eve! :) That evening we would attend our cute little country church for the candlelit Christmas Eve service. After an evening full of music we would make our way back home fairly eager to go to bed. But before we went off to bed we could each pick a bowl and place it on our table setting. (we used mixing bowls instead of stockings) which my parents would fill with candy, socks and other small gifts. Christmas morning we would get up as soon as the sun would rise and unwrap our gifts. After all the excitement, Mom prepared us a pancake breakfast and later that morning we attended our church Christmas morning service. With such good memories of my family’s traditions it’s hard to move on or grow up not following these specific traditions. As lovely as these traditions are, it was necessary for me to move on and create my own traditions with my little family, which consists of my husband Andy, Georgie (Our little Chihuahua) and myself. I don’t think we have followed the same “holiday process” for the seven years we have been married but there are a few things that we have started doing consistently. Tradition 1:

Decorating. I obviously love decorating and I specifically love bringing the outdoors in. Adding cedar to every room creates a very “Festive” atmosphere and the smell is just so amazing!

Tradition 2:

Live Tree. A couple of years ago I got rid of my artificial tree and started bringing in a real tree. Yes, they are more work but I have an obsession with live plants, why not get a real tree? I love preparing the tree with my husband. We have made it a tradition to haul it in the house, light and decorate it while listening to our favourite Christmas music. Some of our favourite tunes are “Christmas in Blue Chair Bay” and “ All I want for Christmas is a Real Good Tan” by Kenny Chesney, and yes we are definitely dreaming of our January vacation while doing so:)

Tradition 3:

Christmas dinner and chill. We have multiple gatherings to attend during the Christmas season, which means we really don’t spend a lot of time at home. We know that it is important to celebrate Christmas together as a family, so Christmas Eve we prepare a nice dinner and end the night sitting on the couch watching Christmas episodes while enjoying a drink.

Tradition 4:

Add a Tradition. I make an effort to add or change a tradition every year. This year we are going to purchase each other unique ornaments. If you’re thinking the same come check out our new ornaments in the store!

There is something about tradition that tugs at our hearts. Lets remember that traditions will come and go, but the most important is to show love to each other this Christmas season.
