The most prominent visual art facility on Penn State’s University Park campus, the museum presents selections from its permanent collection of paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings, photographs, and ceramics from the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America. An adjacent garden is enhanced by large-scale sculpture. The museum also maintains a schedule of special exhibitions, featuring works of art from other museums and public and private collections, throughout the year. Lectures, films, gallery talks, and musical performances are regularly scheduled. Free group tours can also be arranged. Museum hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 4:00 p.m. Closed Mondays and some holidays. Free admission.
The Pennsylvania State University, one of the largest universities in the country and a member of the Big Ten Conference, was founded in 1855. The University Park Campus today covers over 5,000 acres and provides more than 40,000 students with about 160 baccalaureate and 150 graduate programs.

TRADITION LAND-GRANT FRESCOES Pollock Road/Old Main In the lobby of the University’s main administration building are the famous frescoes painted by artist Henry Varnum Poor between 1940 and 1949. The frescoes depict the founding and early history of Penn State, the Commonwealth’s land-grant university. Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.
NITTANY LION SHRINE Near Recreation Building (Rec Hall) This landmark was created by Heinz Warneke from a 13-ton block of Indiana limestone. The Nittany Lion, Penn State’s mascot since 1904, was officially recognized when the statue was presented as a gift to the University by the Class of 1940. The shrine was renovated with a gift from the Class of 2012.

PARKING ON CAMPUS Visitors’ parking is provided for a nominal fee weekdays until 9pm (central campus) and until 5pm in other areas. Metered and permit parking is available in proximity to most locations. Free parking is available after 5pm weekdays west of Atherton St. and east of Bigler Rd. (except Resident Student Parking areas which are reserved 24/7; violators will be towed). Most parking areas are available without charge on weekends, except where signs indicate special restrictions. Lots next to residence halls and dining halls are reserved 7 days a week. Parking permits and parking assistance are available at parking kiosks and at the Centre Co./Penn State Visitor Center, Mon-Fri. Parking rules are enforced. Anywhere you park on campus, please be sure to take note of lot restrictions on the lot entrance sign.
