One African American Woman’s Opinion by Cheryl Smith If you’re looking for an opportunity to initiate a candid discussion on race, here’s a movie that opens the door wide open and in such a way that all participants could benefit significantly from listening and trying to understand. Not knowing what to expect from the movie, Black or White, featuring multiple award honorees Kevin Costner and Octavia Spencer; it was refreshing to see race dealt with so honestly and in your face. Sure some might point to stereotypes and dismissive, especially when minimizing the value of the messages to avoid
those tough discussions. The portrayals were very thought-provoking and eyeopening. Elliott Anderson (Costner) is the grandfather who, after losing his wife, finds himself in a court battle for custody of his granddaughter. Rowena Jeffers (Spencer) is standing up for her son who has been an absentee father for the most part and Elliott’s daughter died during childbirth. When Elliott’s wife is killed in an accident he takes time off from work as he attempts to take care of young Eloise, who is played by the oh so charming

of Health and Human Services is responding to this charge is by launching a new four-year demonstration project funded through the Secretary’s Minority AIDS Initiative to address HIV disparities among men who have sex with men (MSM), including men of color. We are focusing on HIV disparities among MSM, including MSM of color, because
affected by HIV in the U.S. Young black MSM account for more new infections (4,800 in 2010) than any other subgroup of MSM by race/ethnicity and age. These shocking figures demand that we take action. The cross-agency demonstration project will support communitybased models in strengthening HIV prevention efforts, addressing gaps in care for those

HEALTHWATCH By Sylvia Mathews Burwell HHS Secretary Like so many Americans, I have seen the tragedy first hand, of friends lost to HIV/AIDS. I’ve also seen the hope of those living with HIV as we continue to work toward an AIDS free generation. Each February 7th, we mark National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD). It’s an opportunity for all of us to honor the memory of those we’ve lost, and to call attention to the fact that HIV continues to disproportionately affect African American men, women, and youth. The numbers are startling: African Americans represent only 14 percent of the U.S. population, but account for almost half of all new HIV infections in the United States per year, as well as more than one-third of all people living with HIV in our nation. This year’s NBHAAD theme, “I Am My Brother’s/Sister’s Keeper: Fight HIV/AIDS” challenges all of us to work to eliminate these unacceptable health disparities by ramping up our HIV prevention efforts, encouraging individuals to get
JOHNSON: By Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson Eddie Bernice Johnson represents Texas’ 30th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. She is the first registered nurse elected to the US Congress.
Mr. Ernie Banks, a former star player for the Chicago Cubs baseball team who was born in Dallas, was more than just an athlete. Mr. Banks, who recently died, was a man enriched by his faith and fueled by ambition. He won the hearts of many through his skills as a baseball player, and his optimistic views regarding the goodness of life. While it was Chicago where Mr. Banks made his home, it was the city of Dallas that was his life’s foundation. His parents, Eddie and Essie Banks, raised their family of twelve children in a home located at 1723 Fairmount Street, a historical section of the Congressional district that I currently serve. Mr. Banks’ father played semi-
professional baseball in Texas, and supported his family by working as a janitor and picking cotton. His mother, a homemaker, wanted her son to pursue a life in the ministry. Little did they know that one day he would be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. While pursing his degree at Booker T. Washington High School, Mr. Banks participated in a number of sports, including track and field, softball and football. He was so talented that during the summer months he played semipro baseball with a team located in west Texas. After spending two years in the Army during the Korean War and after a brief tenure with the
More specifically, the funding will support state and local health departments in providing MSM of color, and other MSM, with the health and social services they need to live healthy lives free of HIV infection. For those already infected, the funding will support community-based services that help MSM of color, and other MSM, get diagnosed and linked to the right care— including substance abuse and mental health treatment as well as necessary social services, like stable housing. Helping people access and remain in HIV care is good medicine and important to our public health—since it lowers individuals’ risk of passing HIV to others. We all have a role to play in working toward an AIDS free generation. Education and understanding prevention and treatment of HIV is important. And HIV testing is also critical as we continue to tackle this disease. One thing we can all do is speak out - speak out against HIV stigma whenever and wherever you encounter it. Stigma and shame continue to prevent too many people from seeking testing and getting the health care they need to live healthy, active lives. Read more about HIV among African Americans and efforts to prevent and treat this disease at CDC.gov.
A Salute to “Mr. Cub”
Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro Baseball League, Mr. Banks’ contact was purchased by the Chicago Cubs. Six years after Jackie Robinson broke the “color line,” Mr. Banks, at 22 years of age, became the ninth African American to play in the previously segregated major leagues. Today, Mr. Banks still holds the Cubs records for the most games played (2,528), at bats (9,421), extra base hits (1,009), and total bases (4,706). He was voted an All-Star eleven times. Mr. Banks became the most popular sports figure in the history of Chicago. When he retired from baseball in 1971 he was recognized as the most productive shortstop that had ever played professional baseball. As a sign of his greatness, the Cubs retired the number 14 jersey that he wore as a player. Although the Cubs had not
won the World Series since 1908, each year during his time with the team Mr. Banks promised fans that he would do his best to ensure that they won the fall
classic. His belief in optimism was an essential part of his DNA. In retirement, he worked
for major corporations as a spokesperson, and was later hired as a coach by the Cubs. In 1977 he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. His concerns for young people led him to start the “Live Above and Beyond Foundation,” where he used his celebrity to raise money for causes that improved the lives of children. On January 27th I entered a statement in the Congressional Record about Mr. Banks, calling him a “true American legend who loved his sport, and adored the fans who cheered for him on and off the field.” Many members of Mr. Banks’ family reside in North Texas. We are grateful to them for sharing this amazing individual and worldclass athlete with us. We shall never forget him, and all that he did to improve the lives of others.

Hazing Brought to the Big Screen A Review of Kingsman: The Secret Service
By Eva D. Coleman There are methods and somewhat truths to the madness that unfolded in this film. It was chock full of physical and mental games to get a young group in training to work together as a team to figure out and rise above awful situations. Some appeared to not survive. Some caved under pressure. The odd man/woman out was often eliminated. Seems like classic hazing to me!
Eggsy, played by Taron Egerton, is mentored by one of the best, Colin Firth as Harry Hart, in attempts at joining T:10.25”
the secret group known as Kingsman. Agent training of Eggsy, a troubled teen who lives life on the edge, turned hero, culminates into a movie where the moves are astonishing. The fight scenes throughout this film make the Matrix look like child’s play. A villain with a lisp named Valentine brings many instances of laughter. Played by Samuel L. Jackson, his acting persona that is sometimes larger than life would have fared just fine without the speech impediment. Perhaps the obvious poor portrayal of having a speech issue was intentional, for over-the-top blood and gore moments dominated the screen as well in a Quentin Tarantino-like fashion. While Valentine infiltrates the world through transmission of signals that cause uninhibited moral chaos via free-issued SIM cards provided by his company, it definitely gave me pause to wonder, “What if that could really happen?” People are so attached to devices and social media that I feel we could realistically see a controlled evil phenomenon take place. While Kingsman: The Secret Service pokes fun at this concept, it may not be that far off base. People tend to hide behind keystrokes as they spew hatred, and feel uninhibited to do so. They wouldn’t dare be so bold in person. So while fireworks erupt, as they do in an unusual way in this film, check it out if you can stomach guts, limb loss, decapitation and more. It’s a mad, mad world, and many moviegoers in the film laughed heartily at it.

Moving Forward Together in Unity with New Mount Zion Baptist Church Photos by Wallace Faggett
It was a stellar black tie, red carpet, starstudded, joyous, gala affair at Dallas’ Hyatt Regency Hotel as new leadership was presented and celebrated at the New Mount Zion Baptist Church’s Unity Gala, “Moving Forward Together in Unity,” recently. Elected officials (including State Sen. Royce West and Dallas City Councilman Dwaine Caraway - pictured) celebrities, members of the clergy and community activists joined the many guests, supporters and church members from across the country who walked the red carpet and praised Rev. Tommy L. Brown and his wife. The event featured Pastor Emeritus of St. Luke “Community” United Methodist
Church, Dr. Zan. W. Holmes, Jr. After a search that garnered over 500 applicants, Rev. Brown was selected to the post that was held by Rev. R. E. Price, who transitioned in July, 2012. The father of three, Dr. Brown is a leader in the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America. H previously served as pastor of Ervay Cedar Baptist Church of Dallas, for over 15 years. Dick Gregory honored, receives Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
CURRY: How Dick Gregory Got his Hollywood Star THE WHOLE TRUTH By George E. Curry
George E. Curry, former editor-in-chief of Emerge magazine, is editor-in-chief of the National Newspaper Publishers Association News Service (NNPA.) He is a keynote speaker, moderator, and media coach. Curry can be reached through his Web site, www.georgecurry.com.
Activist/ SiriusXm satellite radio host Joe Madison was helping on a campaign to get the Four Tops a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame when he noticed another serious omission from the world-famous tribute to entertainers. “You go to Hollywood and Gene Autry had five (one in each category). Big Bird had a star. When we did our campaign to get the Four Tops a star, I said, ‘My God, Dick Gregory doesn’t have a star.” In 1997, seven years after getting inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Four Tops, – whose 1960s hits included such songs as “Baby I Need Your Loving,” “Ask the Lonely,” “I Can’t Help Myself” and “It’s the Same Old Song” – finally were awarded a star. But Madison couldn’t get over the fact that Dick Gregory, the first Black comedian to earn more
than $1 million a year yet gave up his career to actively support Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), hadn’t been recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “You can walk down there and not see Dick Gregory, but you’ll see Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor and Whoopi Goldberg,” Madison said. “ I don’t know of any entertainer from the era who sacrificed more than Dick Gregory.” About 10 years ago, he set out to change that. “The first time we tried it, we filled out a very complicated application and the committee – the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce – didn’t award him a star,” Madison remembered. “I tried again and they still didn’t accept it. We let some time go by. This
time (in 2013), I said, ‘Look, this is ridiculous.’ That’s when I got Sheila Moses, who helped write Dick’s last book, help word the application. E. Faye Williams, president of the National Congress of Black Women, helped and we put the application together and sent it in. Finally, the committee accepted him in the class of 2015.” At the age of 85, Gregory joins a class that includes Kool & the Gang, Pharrell Williams, Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler. The induction ceremony was carried live Monday on national and international television. Before Gregory could receive his honor, $30,000 had to be submitted on his behalf to cover the creation and installation of his star as well as maintenance of the Walk of Fame. A small group of supporters got together to strategize. The first idea was to reach out to some of the biggest names in Hollywood who could write the $30,000 within the blink of the eye, including fellow comedian Bill Cosby and Hugh Hefner, who lifted Gregory to national stardom in 1961 by regularly booking him at Chicago’s Playboy Club.
The second idea was to identify 30 people willing to donate $1,000 each. But Joe Madison had a better idea. He recalled, “I got with Sherry [his wife and radio producer] and said, ‘Let’s go on the air and make this very simple – 1,000 people with $30. If I don’t have 1,000 listeners who can afford $30, I need to be off the air.’” Madison didn’t need to get off the air – the $30,000 goal of the Dick Gregory Hollywood Star Fund was reached in two weeks. “What it really speaks to is Dick,” he said. And it’s hard to find anyone who has not been touched by Dick Gregory in some way. As a teenager growing up in Tuscaloosa, Ala., I remember hearing him speak at First African Baptist Church, the nerve center of our efforts to desegregate my hometown. I was stunned by the way he boldly attacked segregation, keeping us laughing along the way. He would say, “The last time I was down South I walked into this restaurant and this White waitress came up to me and said, ‘We don’t served colored people
here.’ I said, ‘That’s all right. I don’t eat colored people. Bring me a whole fried chicken.’” And there was this one: “Segregation is not all bad. Have you ever heard of a collision where the people in the back of the bus got hurt?” There was simply no one else like Dick Gregory. And callers into Joe Madison’s radio show shared their special memories. Madison remembers the callins: “One guy, who’s a doctor in New Orleans, said, ‘Dick Gregory spoke at Xavier University. I was a student and I still have the notes from that speech.’ He was in school in the 70s.” “An executive from Caterpillar in Peoria, Ill. said, ’I am the only Black sitting up here on the 7th floor and I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Dick Gregory. I know you asked for $30, but I am sending $1,500.” Most of the contributors were everyday people who donated $30. “It had to be done,” Madison said of the campaign to honor Gregory. “People say, ‘Who cares about a star on the Walk of Fame? It’s about marking your territory.”

Operating on a Tight Budget Dear Alma, My husband was laid off and I’m only working part time, so we’re having a hard time paying our bills and making ends meet. We hardly have enough money to pay the rent, and every day we worry about how we can make it. When my grandmother died, she left me some of her valuables – a beautiful ornate mirror, fine china and some jewelry. My husband told me to sell some of the jewelry so that we could get some money. I don’t want to do that, but I know we need to pay our bills. What do you think? Name withheld Awww, sweetie, I’m sorry. I know this is a difficult time for you and your husband. You didn’t mention any kids, so I assume it’s just the two of you. I think you guys should exhaust all of your resources and make selling your grandmother’s heirlooms the very last (about to be evicted) resort. Once it’s gone, you can’t get it back. The decision to sell something so precious should be your individual decision, not a joint one. She was your grandmother, so you have a ton of love invested in her memory. It’s really not his place to suggest you cut those ties that bind. I’m sure, given the right amount of thought and sacrifice, you two can come up with other options. I’d suggest, if you haven’t already, putting yourselves on a super-duper strict budget. I’m talking about the oatmeal, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, ramen noodles every night budget! Vegetables will become a luxury and replace your meat options. You should also take a look at what I call your “side bills” and see what you can live without. Side bills are things like cable, wi-fi, cell phones and gym memberships. Cut back on gas, which can be expensive. Try walking places or taking the bus. Maybe you can work full-time until your husband finds a job. Keep your head up. Things will get better; it won’t be like this forever. Alma

Want to restore romance in your relationship? Lack of communication usually lands in the top five reasons for divorces or relationships ending, along with finances and irreconcilable differences. Drs. Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt share what makes their marriage successful, when talking about the pitfalls in relationships. Admitting that it wasn’t always easy and they had their share of “unsafe conversations,” the two will share their experiences at a workshop for couples on Saturday, February 14 at Catholic Charities of Dallas, Santa Clara Community Center, 321 Calumet Avenue in Dallas. This free workshop is presented in English and Spanish, with meals provided. For those couples with children, no need to worry because childcare is also provided at no cost to parents. Seems like many excuses for not attending have been taken care of. Here’s an opportunity MESSENGER to gain invaluable insight into helping strengthen your relationship and when you consider the dismal marital statistics, especially in our communities, along with the high rate of domestic violence reports, we need all COUPLES the help we can get. We’re living during a time 50 Years After the Dream where people would rather fight and kill than have meaningful discussions. Men want women to shut up, women want men to listen! Couples spend more time planning the wedding or working out deals for the divorce, than learning how to effectively communicate. Sadly our young are following in our footsteps. Many are lacking in basic communication skills, thus more and more “bullying” cases are dominating headlines and newscasts. Something has to be done and now! It’s not enough to say “keep your hands to yourself,” “no cussing,” or “pay attention.” That’s what makes this workshop so important! With over 40 years of experience as a therapist, educator, clinical trainer, author and lecturer Dr. Hendrix and his wife, Helen LaKelly Hunt, co-created Imago Relationship Therapy, a therapy for couples now practiced by over 2000 certified therapists in 30 countries. The two have co-authored 10 books on intimate NO 3 ISSUE 19

relationships and parenting, including their most recent book Making Marriage Simple. Referred to by Oprah Winfrey as the “Marriage Whisperer,” Dr. Hendrix has been featured on Ms. Winfrey’s show 18 times-- one where she won her first Emmy for “most socially redemptive” daytime talk show. For the past five years, Dr. Hendrix has been working to ignite a global movement to educate people about the value of healthy, intimate relationships. Dr. Hunt, who has been married to Dr. Hendrix for over 30 years, has also been active within the women’s movement, helping to catalyze and grow the area of women’s philanthropy. Six years ago, she co-founded Women Moving Millions, a global movement of donors with the goal of raising the bar on women’s giving. Dr. Hunt is an honored inductee in the National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca, NY. She is the author of, Faith and Feminism: A Holy Alliance, published by Atria books, and the recent article, “Healthy Marriage: Healthy Women and Girls,” inviting the women’s movement to take up equality in marriage as an agenda. She says her greatest passion is deepening her relationships with her husband and their six children. One technique that I found to be especially rewarding is one the couple says they practice daily. “We decided that each night before we go to bed, we tell each other three things we appreciate about one another,” said Dr. Hendrix, adding that they both feel that the exercise is very rewarding. I’ve tried this at home with my family and it does give you a good feeling so I am sure it has a positive impact on those who I show appreciation for. It was especially rewarding for me to do this with my ailing mother who passed last June. I like to think that my finding something nice to say daily helped the transition process for both of us. Attendees at the workshop will find out other skillful ways to communicate and how what they do will influence their children. WHO: Drs. Again, Let it Go. Please. Spiritually Speaking I am trying again to internalize that today is the day the Lord has made. Don’t complicate it. The more complicated the world seems, the simpler it is to understand God’s Word. I’m reminded every day and sometimes get caught up in the power of ego, pride and the desire to control, or better yet, be in control. Letting go and letting God, however easy to understand is still really hard to do when all hell is breaking loose around you. We all know people who can quote scripture backwards and forwards but have little to no faith. Likewise, we also know what I call Christian control freaks, who must have the last say and who must be right all the time. I know can easily get caught up in trying to rationalize circumstances I’ve created in order to explain the events of the day, any day; as if by some miracle of intelligence, I am the authority. It is more often than not these days, that if I recognize I am blessed and subsequently open to the Holy Spirit, I get to see the miracles, the nuances, the essence of life. The day belongs to the Lord. I am not in control and it is okay. Giving one’s life to Christ requires the discipline of faith to not take credit or assess blame. When you focus on service in the name of the lord, you really get a chance to see things from a different perspective. Now the service I’m referring to is the selfless kind which seeks neither reward nor recognition. The act speaks for itself. Christ tells us the God knows what’s in your heart and thus knows your intention. Love God and love your neighbor as yourself; simple enough? It’s so simple, in fact, that if you’re not careful, you’ll miss this thing altogether. Now on this day that God has made, any day, let’s take this simple concept into what
we think is a complex world. That means behavior should have parameters. Actions should have purpose. Intent should easily be identified. Now let’s look back over your yesterday. When I do that I find a lot of times jealousy, envy, pettiness, cruelty, mean spiritedness and the like have crept into my reaction to the world. Face it. It’s hard to be humble, loving, giving and a source of truth all day every day. It takes will power and you know the will I’m talking about. The calling of every Christian is to try. It’s the effort rooted in faith that God expects. If you’re first seeking the kingdom, then your daily behavior will reflect your effort and certainly have direct bearing on what you do today, how you perform and certainly with whom you hang out. Looking back on it, I know I’ve known angels walking among us. I believe without a doubt saints are with us and we ignore them because we’re busy pursuing the world and all it has to offer, rather than pursuing God. I’m blessed to say that from these living breathing angels I’ve learned as the saying goes, the battle ain’t over until you win. Or better yet, the battle is over because Christ already won the war. It’s kind of nice to know He took care of that eternity thing some time ago. All I have to do is get through this life thing. It may not make sense on one level but on another, it really is simple. See me. See God. I can do this. I just gotta let go; one hour at a time, one day at a time, one person at a time. Today is truly a day that the Lord has made. May God bless and keep you always.

SERENA
By Miles Jaye
Capturing her 19th Grand Slam win at the Australian Open yesterday, passing Chris Evert and Martina Navritilova, each with 18 wins, Serena falls only three wins from tying Steffi Graf and four from taking over the all time record, making her the alltime greatest female tennis player of all time.
In an era of super-superlatives where everyday someone in the boxing world or the NFL or NBA is being heralded as the greatest in the game today or the greatest to have ever played the game, Serena may in fact be the greatest athlete of our generation, male or female. In the 2014 New Yorker magazine article: Serena Williams Is America’s Greatest Athlete the writer offers: “Sorry, LeBron. Sorry, Tiger. Sorry, Derek.” One day before the Not-SoSuper Bowl and all the hyperhype that comes with it in the form of controversy (DeflateGate), or White Hats vs. Black Hats, I would add, sorry, Tom, sorry, Russell, sorry Gronk, sorry, Mr. Sherman and Mr. Lynch. It’s not my intention to throw undeserved Super Bowl shade, but at this point I’m disinvested
WWW.GARLANDJOURNAL.COM in a game where a sports analyst refers to Tom Brady as a Great American and the Seahawks as characteristically and collectively “angry.” Anyway; as far back as 2013,
Rolling Stone magazine referred to Serena in an article: Serena Williams: The Great One and even as she tied Evert and Martina with 18 Grand Slam wins, Chris commented that Serena was already the greatest woman to
(214) 941-0110
ever play the game, now she’s won 19. Did I mention that Ms. Williams accomplished this feat at age 33, winning her 6th Australian Open with an upper respiratory condition which led to uncontrollable coughing and vomiting during a rain delay? I don’t want to hear another word about Brady’s sniffles or Sherman’s sore elbow. She served 18 100+mph aces, while not feeling well. She actually said she felt better after throwing up. Can you say, “Champion?” How scary is the notion that this 33-year-old Black woman from Compton may be the premier, elite athlete of our day? Could she be greater than the whole host of NFL, NBA, ABL NHL Hall of Famers? Could she be greater than the pantheon of your favorite
Olympic heroes? Speaking of the Olympics, Serena has a big sister with the Greek name Venus, (also a champion) with whom she shares a perfect doubles record. So while you’re ogling the awesome Serena Williams physique, imagine it in bronze like the Joe Louis fist in Detroit or “Air” Jordan in Chicago. Points of interest: ~She unfortunately does not enjoy endorsement opportunities awarded to lesser female tennis players. ~With $60 million in career earnings, she’s likely underpaid by male standards. ~It’s predicted Serena will surpass Steffi Graf’s record by age 35. Keep striving for love and peace!
Hang Time - A Harlem Globetrotters Weekend by Eva D. Coleman
To say my eight-year-old is a basketball fan is an understatement. She loves the sport, and after a couple of years of her asking, I’ve finally signed her up to play on a team. A few months ago, I noticed her lying on her side on the kitchen floor, dribbling the ball while spinning her body clockwise. “Where’d you get that from?” I asked. “The Harlem Globetrotters,” she answered as she continued to dribble and spin. Truth be told, I noticed her ability to dribble about three years ago. I watched her as she handled the ball on my tile kitchen floor (I don’t mind this activity inside because I’m totally not the outdoorsy type). She’d masterfully switch hands and equally dribble just as well, and at such a young age. Nearly two years ago, a neighbor approached me at a party and asked, “Have you seen your baby play basketball?” “Not really, what’s up?” I questioned. “I saw her playing on the court at school with the boys, and she was taking them!” She excitedly replied. When others take notice and share their thoughts, it sort of validates underlying thinking. I placed her in a brief basketball camp this past summer. Throughout the camp, she won a few of their skills contests.
I, however, was still lagging in my commitment to a routine of practices and games. When my daughter’s birthday party rolled around this past fall, she even selected a basketball theme! She’s also shared with her sister and I that she wants to play in the WNBA. Recently, she created a make-shift VIP credential that she attached to a lanyard. Along with her name it read, “WNBA Player.” So now, I’ve made the commitment. I’ll help her realize her dream if she chooses to stick with it. When I learned the Harlem Globetrotters were coming to town, I had two dear friends committed to making sure she made it to the game. I love the village that’s helping me raise my child! We watched the Globetrotters take on the Washington Generals. The Globetrotters line-up included a lone female, T-Time, whom my child can now quickly recount her factual history with the team. The skills and antics on the court did not disappoint the crowd. The entire show was interactive and highly entertaining. The autograph session on the court after the game that was available to all fans added an even special treat to the evening. As I watched my WNBA hopeful look on with delight and her big sister enjoying herself as well, I couldn’t help but take this precious moment in. I’ll remember it forever as a bonus hang time with my girls. No fouls. No injuries. Just fun.

Sometimes God calms the storm. Other times God calm his child. Which will God have to do for you today? And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, sleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, care thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them; why are ye fearful? How is it that ye have NO faith? (Mark 4:37-40) And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. And behold there arose a great tempest in the sea, so much that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying Lord save us: we perish. And he said unto them why or you so fearful? O ye of little faith. Then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there he arose and rebuked the winds and theWorship sea; and there was a great calm. (Matthew ye the Lord, O give thanks unto the Lord: for he is good. 8:23-27) For Thought: Sometimes we are like the disciples; we don’t recognize who is in the ship with us. Are maybe we forget who is in the ship with us. The believer (Week-end And Evening Appointments Available) needs to remember who is in the ship with him at all times.
