Lyons Foundation hosts event honoring veterans Despite threat of rain, hundreds turn out in Garland
It was fun for all with numbers approaching 200 community members in attendance as the Lyons Foundation kicked off it's 7th Annual Memorial Day Event, "Celebrating Our Communities and Having a Moment of Silence Honoring our Military Heroes." The excitement began as the crowd assembled at the Embree Park, located behind the Gayle Fields Recreation Center in Garland , Texas. She’s coming to Dallas
It was a big night at the 40th annual Gracie Awards with actress Tracee Ellis Ross as the host and actress Cicely Tyson receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, while other honorees included Iyanla VanZant, actress Julia Roberts, talk show host Robin Roberts and Isha Sesay for Outstanding Anchor-News or News Magazine CNN. But the highlight for Floridians, Florida A&M University alumni, students and friends, as well as media mogul Tyler Perry’s fans, was the honor bestowed upon Angela Robinson - Outstanding Female Actor- One to Watch OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network/The Haves and The Have Nots.
A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Robinson attended Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Fl., where she also reigned as Miss FAMU. Following her graduation from FAMU, where she actually had another successful actress -T'Keyah Crystal Keymáh of In Living Color and That’s So Raven fame, as a roommate; the multi-talented singer, actress and dancer began her professional acting career appearing in Broadway and Off-Broadway productions and performing in several popular shows, including The Color Purple, Dreamgirls and The Wizard of Oz. She has also appeared on an episode of episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Then in 2013, she became a household name when she first appeared as Veronica Harrington in the Oprah Winfrey Network primetime soap opera, The Haves and the Have Nots which is written, produced and directed by Mr. Perry. She’s the person viewers love to hate. As Harrington, she is “every woman.” A successful attorney and the wife to a politician, she has a mind of her own and she doesn’t mind sharing it. Harrington is meticulous and doesn’t break under pressure. Unfortunately for her, she is not dealing with her son’s sexuality.
