Ladies, take the pledge
Author Sophia A. Nelson will be speaking this weekend at the Power on Empowerment Conference" on Saturday, sponsored by the Urban League Greater Dallas Young Professionals Conference at the JCPenney Headquarters, 6501 Legacy Drive in Plano. On Sunday, Oct. 17 she will sign her book at the Barnes & Noble at Preston and Park, also in Plano. Talk about a kinder and gentler world, just imagine how nicer the world would be if women, especially Black women, could shed some of the baggage. Ladies, please take this pledge with me and become committed to being more loving. Also, as Kirk Franklin sings, “Smile.” REDEFINITION PLEDGE I, _____________________________, pledge that I will first and foremost love and take care of myself and stand up for what I want, need, and desire. I will no longer allow myself to be defined by myth, stereotype, or limitation. I promise to make meaningful connections and spend more time with the people I love and care about. I promise to honor my spirituality and religious beliefs by putting compassion, civility, honesty, and love into action each and every day. I promise to honor my body as my temple and engage only in those actions that bring health and wellness to my soul. I promise to live out my faith in a way that draws people to me, not pushes them away from me. I promise to bring joy into my life and into the lives of others. I promise to treat myself by spending quality time alone, listening to music, taking a stroll, or doing nothing. I promise to guard my financial health just as closely as I do my physical health. I promise to apologize and ask for forgiveness when I am wrong. I promise to be a role model and mentor other women. I promise to respect and support black women and to practice friendship, civility, compassion, honesty, and kindness within the sisterhood of all women.
