Saluting Curtis King By Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson In the far distant future, when the history of Dallas is written and accolades are given to those who made enduring and remarkable contributions to the life and culture of North Texas and beyond, the name Curtis King will appear near the very beginning of the list. Those who read the history will know that Mr. King singularly birthed an institution, and shared it with hundreds of thousands of people from Texas, and throughout the world. His journey was at times difficult and not without pain, but Mr. King, armed with an abundance of faith and courage, tenderly molded and grew his institution, The

Black Academy of Arts and Letters, into international prominence. There were some that doubted him in 1977 when the 26-year-old Mississippi native said that he wanted to establish a major cultural institution in Dallas. Undeterred, the former university instructor used $250.00 of his savings to launch his dream which has become a place of cultural richness for all people. Now recognized as one of the most distinguished and productive artistic and cultural institutions in the country, The Black Academy of Arts and Letters is a beacon for people of all ages and ethnic groups. Throughout the week and on weekends its corridors are filled with peo-

ple of talent and those who take delight in experiencing them. Mr. King has provided an incubator for local talent, and a forum in which the internationally known such as the highly-acclaimed actors Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis, Cicely Tyson, Ester Rolle and Lou Gossett have been featured. The works of the artist Romare

Bearden have been displayed, as well as the thoughts of the writer, C. Eric Lincoln. To ensure that historians and people across the globe could experience his institution, Mr. King entered into a relationship with the University of North Texas to digitize nearly forty years of plays produced by the Academy that featured young people from North Texas. He has been praised and honor for his work by the city of Dallas and the state of Texas. Among the organizations that have applauded him are the Dallas Historical Society and Esquire Magazine. A plethora of faith institutions have bestowed awards upon Mr. King as have volumes of community groups, fra-

ternities, sororities and educational entities. No one during the course of the last forty-one years has made the type of sustained contributions that Curtis King has to the artistic and cultural life of North Texas. He is alone in his accomplishments. The people of this community are grateful that he has devoted his life and his work to us. He has served us well! We are the beneficiaries of his vision, his passion, his sacrifices, and his love. And we are eternally grateful to him for the legacy that he has left us! Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson represents the 30th Congressional District of Texas.

MY TRUTH

By Cheryl Smith Publisher

Over the years I have had many of my decisions questioned. Why did you go to a Black college? Why do you choose to work for the Black Press? Are black organizations necessary? And so on and so on. It was Marcus Mosiah Garvey who said, “Every man has a right to his own opinion. Every race has a right to its own action; therefore let no man persuade you against your will, let no other race influence you against your own.” Sounds good to me! Even as a young child, I was considered “pro-Black.” Actually, I was just considered “PRO” because I was more for things than against. I chose to stand for, instead of against. For example, I would speak out for justice, which allowed me to address injustices. I chose a Black college instead of a predominantly white institution of higher learning. I wanted to do great things and I felt I could grow and learn at a Black college. After college I chose to work with a Black newspaper. I didn’t say “I don’t want to work for a white or “so-called mainstream” publication. I wanted to carry on in the tradition of pioneers like Ida B. Wells Barnett. Essentially I have looked for the good in life and gone full steam ahead. Even with voting, as another example. I choose to vote FOR a candidate than AGAINST another. If by chance both candidates offer challenges, then I try to find some redeeming value in both. But if nothing surfaces, then neither get my vote. Which brings me to my truth. People ask why I chose to join a sorority. Many can’t see any redeeming qualities. There’s something to be said about being on the outside looking in, and seeing only a snippet; kind of like trying to assess someone else’s house from across the street.

Validation Well, as I celebrate 40 years of membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., I can give so many reasons for why my decision to seek membership was a good one and also why I don’t have to validate anyone else’s reality or dignify the questions with a response. However, it is important to note that through a special process, called pledging, I bonded on one level with 33 other women and on another level with so many

more. Sure folks will say what they would or wouldn’t do and there are negative experiences that some can tell you about, but fortunately for me, my experience was rewarding, eye-opening and full of life experiences that have helped me navigate more successfully through life. I gained lifelong friends who there’s no pretense with. When I get together with my line sisters, we say what we mean and mean what we say. If we talk every week or every year, or every decade; there’s still that love and camaraderie that withstands the test of time. No pretense whatsoever because we’ve seen and experienced together the good, the bad and the ugly. Now, I didn’t really know what I was getting into when I wrote my letter expressing my interest in Delta. What I did know is that that many of the professors I admired on Florida A&M University’s campus, like Dr. Barbara Cotton, Dr. Gladys Lang and

Dr. Eva C. Wanton, were members and the students were the ladies running things on campus — like Miss FAMU, Student Government leaders, the first female in the Marching 100 Band, FAMUAN newspaper staff editor, Rattler Yearbook staff editors, Miss Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Miss Black and Gold of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, honor society members, and on and on. I felt like I had it going on and I wanted to associate with women who were making things happen! I needed to learn and grow. I know I made the right choice and it was one of the best choices I have made in my life because in addition I have met other wonderful people in other organizations. The other Divine 9 members are great also and I salute them. You see, I know I am a Black woman, living in America. Enough said because to major in the minors is wasting this precious time we have on earth. So as May 26, 2018 marked 40 years, many of us with uninterrupted service, I salute the Elusive Ladies - Sheryl Barnes, Sabrina Beason, Kathy Board, Michelle Boseman, Carolyn Brown, Mary Brown, Cheryl Burgess, Lillie Burke, Karen Caldwell, Donna Charles (deceased), Terry Cooper, Yvette Council, Charlene DeWindt, Vickie Frazier, Celia Gipson, Lucy Holt, Cassandra Horton, Cassandra Jackson, Brenda Jones Angela King, Audrey McGriff, Sandra McReynolds, Louise Marshall, Valerie Melton, Vicki Muse, Helen Morton, Vera Norwood, Alma Ragin, Valerie Raulerson, Alvena Smith, Anita Smith, Cheryl Smith, Gertrude Sweet and Annarene Wineglass. Am I a better person because of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.? Most definitely! Have I tried to make Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. better? Most definitely! What are you doing with your time?

Who will protect solar consumers?

Thanks to President Barack Obama, the solar and wind industries are expanding rapidly. He provided tax credits and subsidies for renewable energy (part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009). Despite the stunning failure of the solar company Solyndra, which left taxpayers liable for its $535 million collapse, our nation’s capacity for solar and wind boomed under President Obama, with the cost of rooftop solar dropping by 54 percent during that administration, and with the number of US households with solar panels exceeding a million households by 2016. Just this month, California has passed legislation requiring that all new homes use solar power, an amazing boost to the industry! And the United Nations announced that solar attracted more investment in 2017 than any other power source, clean or dirty. For all the support President Obama offered the solar industry, his administration didn’t offer consumers enough protection against unscrupulous solar panel sales persons. Thus, consumer advocates have had to be aggressive in protecting consumers from illegitimate business practices in the solar industry. A year ago, three members of Congress wrote to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau asking that these shady business practices be investigated. I wrote a column about the flawed practices and had the opportunity to meet with Abby Hopper, President of Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). The organization says it is working to increase pro consumer policies around the country, and has a Consumer Protection Committee, a set of free tools to

The Last Word by Dr. Julianne Malveaux

help consumers understand solar agreements, and projects to include underserved communities in the solar industry, including a supplier diversity program. Some of the members of the industry group are also involved in community colleges, STEM programs, and employment training. So why did Hector Balderas, Attorney General of New Mexico, recently file a 17-count civil complaint against Vivint, a Utahbased rooftop solar company, accusing them of fraud, racketeering and unfair business practices. Balderas says Vivint employed “high-pressure sales techniques and procedures designed to mislead consumers” and lock their customers into contracts lasting 20 years, with rates that increase “by over 72 percent,” as the agreement matures. Vivint is not a minor player in the rooftop solar industry. In fact, they are one of the largest companies, selling solar panels to consumers across the United States. Still, SEIA has no comment on the Vivint situation in New Mexico on their website, which shouldn’t be too surprising, since Vivint is a member of SEIA. To be sure, the website says all the right things. It highlights its consumer protection work, mentions diversity and inclusion, speaks of environmental awareness, and provides updates on public policy. Beneath a sunny exterior, though, there is a problem with unscrupulous solar companies. When rooftop

solar companies lose money, as SolarCity did, losing more than $800 million in FY 2016, they get extremely aggressive, desperate to keep growing, and seek out new customers, taking advantage of those who are less sophisticated. That’s what New Mexico says Vivint did, and they aren’t the only ones. Another major player in the rooftop solar industry is Sunrun, which has had its own ethical concerns. Last year, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is investigating whether Sunrun (and SolarCity) misled investors. In the Journal piece, the reporter cites Freedom of Information Act requests, which found, according to the Journal: “Hundreds of complaints have been filed against solar companies in Texas, Oregon, California and Florida, with customers saying they are paying more on their utility bills, not less as they were promised, and have been sold expensive systems they cannot afford.” What also strikes me as odd, is that in their latest filing with the SEC, the CEO of Sunrun, asserts that the cost of maintaining the electrical grid – such as transformers, power stations and transmission lines – over the next few decades does not make financial sense, and that we should instead be encouraging Americans to install solar panels. I am supportive of renewable energy, and believe that allowing the utilities to totally domi-

nate the electric market is problematic. But, I am also extremely leery of the government mandating more rooftop solar because the industry is seemingly rife with bad actors, who prey upon unsuspecting consumers. If we were to employ policies at the state and federal levels, that would divest from our electric grid and instead invest in rooftop solar, why should we believe that companies like Vivint would suddenly behave themselves? We shouldn’t, which is why I agree with the Consumer Federation of California’s call for government to “create a framework of consumer protections.” Solar companies love to highlight the immense investment that is needed to modernize our existing electricity grid. The companies are right that work needs to be done and they are also right in the unfortunate conclusion that these investments are likely to result in higher rates for customers. However, the solar companies conveniently ignore the fact that as more and more well-off households spend thousands of dollars to install solar panels, the cost to sustain and modernize the grid will be shifted to the poorer Americans without solar panels. No matter how much we support renewable energy, we cannot ignore this unfair reality and we need to make sure that government subsidies don’t accelerate this regressive cost shift. The need for renewable energy has led the federal government, and many states, to provide subsidies for solar energy. We also need to provide protection for the consumers who are being ripped off by those unscrupulous actors in the solar industry!

Solo- A Star Wars Story Solo: A Star Wars Story takes us back to the early life of Han Solo. It shows how he goes from a boy to a space traveling outlaw and how he meets his co-pilot Chewbacca. It also shows us the chance meeting between Solo and Lando Calrissian, played by Childish Gambino’s Donald Glover. Glover does a great job of capturing the smooth style of a young Lando Calrissian; such a good job that you can almost hear Billy Dee Williams in a Colt 45 commercial. The movie is directed by the legendary Ron Howard who brings a

fresh point of view to the movie series that had been played out over the past few years. Solo just happens to be a Star Wars story but it could have been any sci-fi action film. It does a great job of starting the series up from scratch again. In the movie Tobias Becket, played by Woody Harrelson, is Han’s mentor and the ring leader of a gang of space mercs. Becket is in deep debt to a criminal war lord, Dryden Vos’ (Paul Bettany) and will do anything to get out from under his control while try-

ing to remain alive. Han’s goal is to get a ship and be a pilot but while he’s working with Becket he discovers that his former girlfriend, Qi’re (Emilia Clarke), is now involved with the war lord they are trying to deal with. Solo is a great adventure and a fantastic prequel for Star Wars fans or the average movie-goer who has never seen a Star Wars movie. The movie runs 2 hour and 15 minutes and you’ll be enthralled by every minute. It’s rated PG-13 for violence and on my “Hollywood Popcorn Scale” I rate Solo: A Star Wars Story a JUMBO.

Johnson running to become first African American House Speaker Texas State Representative Eric Johnson (D-Dallas) has filed the necessary paperwork to run for Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives for the 86th Texas Legislature. Rep. Johnson’s House District 100 includes parts of Dallas and Mesquite. He was first elected to the Texas House in 2010 and will be entering his sixth term when the 86th Texas Legislature convenes in January 2019. In a statement about his decision to run, Rep. Johnson said, “When I look back over my eight years as a member of the Texas House, I am deeply troubled by the far rightward shift in our state government and the excessive partisanship and the poor legislation this shift has spawned. Texas has become a one-party state, and this has been to Texas’s detriment. What Texas needs is a strong, pro-growth, progressive leader presiding over the Texas House to act as a counterbalance to a far-right Governor and Lieutenant Governor. I am

Rep. Eric Johnson

running for Speaker to help restore normalcy to Texas state politics.” Rep. Johnson currently serves on the House Committees on Ways and Means, Investments and Financial Services, and Redistricting. Born and raised in the district he currently represents, after earning a Bachelor of Arts in History, cum laude from Harvard University in 1998, he went on to earn a Master of Public Affairs in International Relations from Princeton

University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, both in 2003. Currently serving on the Democratic National Committee, he is the Chairman of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee’s Finance Council. In addition to serving in the Texas Legislature, Representative Johnson is Of Counsel to the international law firm of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. He lives in Dallas with his wife, Nikki, and their two sons, William, 4, and George, 8 months. If elected Speaker of the Texas House, Rep. Johnson would be the first Speaker under the age of 45 since Price Daniel, Jr. in 1973 and the first Speaker from Dallas since W.O. Reed in 1947. He would also be the first person of color ever to serve as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives.

Dallas taxpayers poured millions into this private course. This was my chance to tiptoe through the Trinity Forest Golf Club. I’m no golf fan. However, since the Dallas Cowboys moved from the southside Cotton Bowl in the 1970’s to a “brand-spanking new”, much smaller Texas Stadium in the suburban city of Irving; professional sporting venues in the hood were non-existent. There was one exception; the “Sportatorium.” Sadly it succumbed with the passing of wrestler Fritz Von Erich and the tragedies that took four of his five sons. The new Byron Nelson was welcomed. It’s ironic that Irving lost the Nelson to Dallas, the way that Dallas lost the Cowboys to Irving. God has a sense of humor, but there was nothing funny about former Mayor Laura Miller’s single-handed veto of Jerry Jones’s effort to return the Cowboys. “Jerry’s World” probably would be where the Sportatorium sat. Rather than be selfish, I invited a good White friend from North Dallas and he appreciated being asked. Renaldo (ok I’m lying but Bob was too stereotypical) told me about the word going around his hood. The reports from bus shuttle riders in and out of the tournament ranged from scary to depressing. Poverty is hidden well in Big D, but there is no hiding place near the new golf course. Me being me, I took Renaldo in the back way. In Memoriam - Mother Bernice Mother Bernice Foster, lovingly known as “Snapper Jack”, was born May 8, 1924, in Bloomberg, Texas (Cash County). She was the oldest of five children born to James and Zula Mae Henderson. She was educated through the Bloomberg, Texas public schools. Mother Bernice accepted Christ at an early age at Shady Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Mothershed. She grew up working in many areas of the church. Professionally, Mother Bernice worked for the United States Postal Service. After 20 years of service, she retired. Mother Bernice was united in holy matrimony to James Foster, Sr. in 1947 and to this union they were blessed with three wonderful children: Debra, Vanessa, and James Foster, Jr. They were married over 53 years until they were parted by his death in May 2000. She joined Salem Institutional Baptist Church in 1941 under the leadership of the late Reverend B.R. Riley. She faithfully worked with the Deaconess Department and the Hearts of Heritage of Salem. She also or-

ganized and was a Co-Founder of the United Christian Fellowship. Mother Bernice worked tirelessly in the efforts of building this fellowship. She edited the monthly newsletter, loved to cook and bake and was known for her delicious butter cakes. Most importantly, Bernice enjoyed her time with her family and

friends. On May 5, 2018, at 4:32 A.M. as she was singing “Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah”, she quietly transitioned to her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Foster Sr.; her parents, James and Zula Mae Henderson; three sisters, Muriel Evelyn Belford, Mattie Lou Smith, and Emma Lee Reed. Cherishing her memories is her only living sibling, her brother Henry Henderson of Flint, Michigan; her three children, Deborah Ann Foster of Houston, Texas, Vanessa Enette (Michael), and James Foster, Jr. (Helen), both of Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren, four teen great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

In Memoriam - Alma Huntsberry It happens to every family, some sooner than other’s. The Huntsberry Family has lost the Matriarch in the way of Mrs. Alma Huntsberry (preceded in passing by Husband Alfred Huntsberry) the ALP / CCP Printing band has been a running standard in the Black Dallas business community for years. As the Huntsberry’ s served as friends of business owners and the community at large, and none was more important than the Huntsberry’s role in keeping their beloved Salem Institutional Baptist church at the forefront of their being along with a hefty Love of God. But this past week the other half of “ALP” Alma Huntsberry got her wings on Friday May 18, 2018. She will always be remembered for her sincere manner, passion and zeal to serve in her straight forward approach. Alma Huntsberry was never short on words and was always willing to give a piece of her (Alfred) inspired mind. The Huntsberry brand started in the garage of Huntsberry Manor in 1978 and quickly grew because of the hard work and attention to printing. But the greatest attribute of the business was the Huntsberry’s ability to Trust, and Invest in the Black Business’s that trusted they’re work, a lot of times customers didn’t have the proceeds and the customers received quality work all the same. In retrospect there is not a Church, Business, Funeral Home, or any business that has been around that didn’t call upon ALP for service, In the day to day business Mrs. Huntsberry was always out front as the first person to great you upon entering the business she always had a smile, a good word and a laugh. After 40 years of service she retired and left the business with Cassandra (Sandy), Darryl Carter and the remainder of the Huntsberry clan. EN

The Prince of Pojazz releases new album - Intimate Pleasures Today, nationally renowned author, poet, lyricist and performer ZEMILL released his new CD, Intimate Pleasures! The new album which features 11 tracks and the accompanying book Love Unleashed: The Fire and Passion of Poetry will be available on Amazon, CD Baby, iTunes, the Apple Store and on Tidal, the digital streaming platform of music mogul Jay-Z. From the first notes of Intimate Pleasures, listeners know this new album is going to be a unique experience! In his third studio release, Zemill mixes a masterful blend of Jazz, R&B and Spoken Word with delightful infusions of Spanish guitar and the amazing vocal stylings of Ricky James, Marion Monet and Joel McCray.

CD is really different.” What remains the same are the silky-smooth verses of Spoken Word that awaken the senses and reach new levels of intimacy and desire. “She Craves Me” tells the story of unbridled desire that can only be satisfied by her lover, while “Romp” is an almost playful tale of a scandalous interlude in the most unlikely of places! True to the lyrics of “Whatever You Like to Do”, Intimate Pleasures, “serves up” something for everyone. Zemill

chooses to release his books in conjunction with new music, Zemill says, “The book is an expounded expression of the things that I am feeling and that are on my mind when I go into the studio to record a new album. In the book, the intimacy chapter supports the ideas of intimacy that are on the CD. So, what you hear on the CD is echoed throughout the book. It really provides an even deeper look into the music.” The formula has proven successful, as Zemill is currently receiving airplay on seventeen musical platforms and in countries around the world including the US, UK, Italy, France, Germany, Costa Rica, Indonesia, Taiwan, Australia, Portugal and Japan with more additions pouring in daily!

The artist, famous for his Poetry and Jazz compilations which fans around the world have come to know as Zemill’s PoJazz Experience, keeps true to his roots with tracks featuring sensual wordplay over carefully crafted Jazz and R&B compilations. In describing the new album, Zemill muses, “My last CD Timeless was the ride home. Intimate Pleasures is what happens when you get home!”

“This is such an exciting time! I am truly honored and blessed to see the music touching people all over the world. To see it growing this way and being able to share something I have such tremendous passion for is amazing!

PoJazz lovers will immediately settle into the smooth groove of tracks like “You’re My Sweet Delight” and “Bliss”. Other tracks such as “Spanish Rain” featuring Goga on Spanish guitar with its sultry Latin vibe and “The Naughty Blues” and its driving guitar riffs highlight a new expansion of artistry for Zemill which he is thrilled to have his fans experience.

expounds, “The whole goal of this CD is to take you on a magical ride. From beginning to end, it tells a story of two lovers starting with the expression of their love and desire for one another, to the proclamation of doing whatever it takes to make the other happy and ultimately finding bliss with each other.”

“When I listen to music, I like variety,” he explains. “I think the audiences who have come to see me know that every year, I do something a little different. From start to finish each cut on this

Unwanted Photos of my Ex-Husband Ask ALMA Dear Alma: I recently decided to digitize my old photos and ran across a ton of family pictures of my first husband as a baby and while he was growing up, along with his family. We had a short marriage and divorced after only two years. My first husband and I didn’t have any children together, so I haven’t been in contact with him over the years. I wasn’t very close to his family, either. When we came home from college together, I didn’t pass the paper bag test (if you know what I mean) but that’s another question for another day. During our marriage, I never quite measured up when it came to his mother and she let me know it at every opportunity she could. He was the only son and truly devoted to his parents. I’m very happily remarried now and have been for over 20 years. I’m not sure if he’s remarried and I don’t really have any interest in contacting him. Sometimes people can misread your intentions and I don’t want this to be the case. But what I do want to do is forward this box of pictures to his parents. I’ve checked and confirmed their home address. My plan is to send the box

without a return address, so that way they won’t feel obligated to get in touch with me. But if I do, they might not even know where the box came from. I definitely don’t want to throw them away. I know it would be a wonderful surprise for them to receive them. What do you think Alma, how can I return these photographs incognito? Name withheld Dear Name Withheld: Take a step back, Detective Benson, I think you’ve added more Law & Order than what’s necessary to complete this pursuit. Don’t get it twisted on your end. This is a very thoughtful act on your part and that’s all it is. Just let that be. Without rereading the entire map of your first marriage misfortunes, I’d venture to say you have legitimate reasons for anticipating the worst of the worst and, you could be right. But you also could be wrong. You said you’ve gone on with your life. You’re happily remarried, totally and unequivocally uninterested in line dancing with your ex-husband’s family foolishness. Ok, I get it. But I think you’re moving way ahead of yourself here. We’re talking returning old pictures. You aren’t inviting them to attend your granddaughter’s graduation celebration. It’s not what you have in your hand but what you have in your heart that lays the groundwork for this task of thoughtfulness. I applaud you for not

holding a grudge towards your ex-husband and his family. If you’ve got the right attitude and you’re sending the pictures with the best of intentions, there’s no need to expect discord, disharmony or discontent. Yes, absolutely add a note that says: Hello, I recently ran across these photographs and just knew I had to return them to your family. All the best blessings to you and yours. Signed, you. There’s no room or need for a suggestion of follow up in those words. Once you’ve sent the pictures, it out of your hands. You can’t control their reaction, you can only control your response. So stop worrying about it. If they follow up with foolishness – as they say in Brooklyn, just FagetAboutIt! Although I’ve gotta say, I don’t think they will. Time has passed, wounds have healed, and old ways have changed. Send the box, with the note, I can tell your heart is in the right place. By the way, I don’t think the post office will let you send letters or packages without a return address. But I am certain that you can come up withsomeone’s return address. All the best of blessings to you and yours. Signed, Alma

cell phone. When Investigators caught Onyeri, he broke his phone into pieces. He must have been trying to destroy a picture of the Judge's SUV stored in his phone. A very incriminating picture considering he lives in Houston, and the picture was taken in Austin on the day of the attack. The investigation culminated in a 17 Count Federal indictment against Onyeri for the scheme not only to kill the Judge, but also for financial crimes, including mail fraud, tax fraud, and skimming ATM cards. Onyeri's trial began in late March. He was not the only person charged in the case. 6 codefendants testified against him during the trial, one that lasted nearly 2 months. The evidence consisted of cell phone records, text messages, and recorded phone calls. The jury returned a verdict of guilty on all 17 counts. Onyeri

faces up to a life sentence for his crimes. That decision will be made during the sentencing phase in August. In response to the attack, the Texas Legislature passed laws designed to beef up security for Judges, and to make their personal information less visible. As for Judge Kocurek, she is still in the process of recovering from dozens of surgeries. Undaunted by the attack, she continues to preside over the Court she once shared with the man who tried his best to kill her.
