A voice you should get to know
Known as “The Daytime Diva with the Voice,” celebrity radio personality, Lynne Haze, has one of the most recognizable voices and contagious personalities in radio today. And she uses her celebrity for the benefit of others. She is a mentor to other women in the industry, never resorting to the cat-fight mentality that is often associated with such a competitive field.
At the peak of her career, Lynne decided it was time for a challenge and transitioned to a career in the record industry, where for 10 years she thrived considerably at RCA Records, Warner Brother Records and Mercury Records. Not stopping there, Lynne has used her sultry, contralto voice as her golden egg to become among
Instead, Lynne is about uplifting and that is what she does on and off air. Most recently, she gathered necessities to help benefit those in Houston affected by the Hurricane. Friends, co-workers and loyal listeners joined her at 1011 Grill in Dallas for food, fun, and a purpose as everything from disposable diapers to cleaning items were donated and prepared for shipping to Houston. A 21st Century Mary Magdalene, growing up, the native New Yorker had no clue that not only would “radio personality” be a description on her resume, but her path to life. A mother-daughter heart-to-heart prompted the start of Lynne’s career in her hometown of Buffalo, New York, at WUFO-FM. There, she worked as a news and weekend broadcaster until she moved to WBLK and worked successfully as a late night host. Later, the Universe tilted her toward Dallas, Texas where, at KKDA-AM, Lynne found herself an on-air personality in the #5 radio market in the country.
on-air “Daytime Diva.” There, she built a hugely loyal fan base, especially for the work she did in the community and for advancing the careers of women. A former president for the National Black Programmers’ Coalition, Lynne’s voice became a movement for creating change among women. A strong advocate for women supporting each other, she developed an outlet called, Meeting in the Ladies Room. Through these sponsored events, Lynne encouraged women and gave them peace from work stress, children and day-to-day living through laughter, music, networking and love. Adding to her list of accomplishments, Lynne has won numerous civic and entertainment awards, including Air Personality of the Year, Promotion Person of the Year at Mercury Records and a local award for the dedication at the West Dallas and Oak Cliff Boys and Girls Clubs.
the most sought-after voiceover talents in the industry. Frequently, she has recorded commercials for CBS Records, JC Penney and ABC Radio to name a few. Upon her return to radio, Lynne’s career continued to soar as one of the few African American females on the air. When Radio One recognized her impenetrable talent and hired her at 94.5 KSOUL, Lynne’s popularity exploded in the D/FW Metroplex where she became known as the

Today, over the airwaves and through technology, Lynne’s voice is still magnetic on Smooth R & B 105.7 KRNB-FM. A top-billed motivational speaker, Lynne’s infectious sense of humor amuses and startles audiences as she teaches using her real life experiences and thought-provoking stories as a platform for transformation. Always in demand, and with good reason. She shows up looking good, sounding good, well prepared and ever so loving!

Donald Trump…God’s Gift!! QUIT PLAYIN’ By Vincent L. Hall
Revelations 3:16 declares that because you were neither cold nor hot, but lukewarm, I spat you out of my mouth. Dante Alighieri declared that the hottest place in hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict. The cleaned up version of what my mama declared is “defecate or get off the pot.” God sent a 71-year-old dotard; Donald Trump to help America move from a permanent posture of self-rationalization and identity crisis. Trump was sent to force this nation to live up to the true meaning of its creed or cut the crap about “American Exceptionalism.” Trumpism summons us to the great theologian Martin Niemoeller. “First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.” Well, first Trump came for the Muslims. You owned neither a turban nor a copy of the Quran; so it didn’t bother you. Then “Paleface with forked tongue” came for the Mexicans. That
12
call surprised you a little since there are so many working in his hotels and resorts… but you were day-worker dreaming. Then Trump came for “The Blacks” with the revelation that all the coloreds live in a perpetual cycle of squalor or squander. You gave the whip-cracker a pass on that, because when you watch the evening news that’s kinda what “Black life” looks like. Then he came for the little girls, but since he wasn’t grabbing the G-strings or groping the genitals of your own daughter it didn’t hit home. Just lock-
er room banter; Nothing to see here folks...move along. Trumpism went international. He couldn’t turn on his paramour Putin so Trump went after North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un. America approved. We’ve been handcuffed by this hoodlum and his heritage for too long. Kim went ballistic yet sounds more presidential than the terrorist that won the Electoral College. While the Red States were cheering Trump’s Nationalism and climate denial, America lost its pole position as the leader of the free world. Through it all, you sat silent and
complacent. You did nothing. You sat on your “Blessed Ass-urance” through every sporting event from opening to close. And then Trump came after your trophy and treasure…The NFL!!! Americans who refuse to salute the Alt-Right mantra hinted time and time again that Trump was racist. He gave you the best hint at Charlottesville; you gave him another pass. Then this carpetbagger landed in “Sweet Home” Alabama; home to Jefferson Beauregard Sessions; the human Swastika. Trump declared that any SOB who wouldn’t stand for the anthem needed to be fired, given 50 lashes or both! The next day he threw in Stephen Curry and the NBA for good measure. Trump would never make a similar statement about the PGA, the NHL or NASCAR; aka No Asians, Spooks, Chicanos, Arabs or Rabbis. Now the time has come when you can’t be lukewarm; it’s cold or hot. Will you stand for the cause or in the hottest part of hell? Will it be the worldhouse or the outhouse? Either Donald Trump is a White Supremacist or just a garden variety bigot. How many of Trump’s 60 million voters saw him as their White Knight, their Imperial Wizard or their beloved Fuhrer? It’s scary!! God sent you this precious gift for a reason. We can say a lot about Donald Trump, but we can’t say that he’s lukewarm, which is more than can be said for most of us.

NABJ names Media Executive Sharon Toomer as Executive Director
Former journalist and public affairs senior executive brings impressive portfolio to oldest and largest journalists of color association WASHINGTON, D.C. -- National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) President Sarah Glover announces that the organization has named Sharon Toomer, an accomplished media executive and nonprofit leader, as its new executive director. The announcement today comes after an intense selection process and extensive national search facilitated by Harris Rand Lusk. "We are excited that Sharon will be joining us at this critical time in NABJ's history," Glover said. "Her combined fundraising, organizational, executive management, journalism, and public affairs experience and skills make her a dominant force. Sharon is experienced, visionary and passionate. We feel confident that she will serve us well in the implementation of NABJ's strategic plan and be an impactful leader that shapes the national office as NABJ continues to grow and evolve. "NABJ is so very fortunate to have Sharon onboard." Citing Toomer's vast experience in public affairs, communications, journalism and new media, as well as her professional and organizational skills, Glover said the Spelman College graduate was very impressive throughout the process and exhibited several traits that will serve NABJ well. "NABJ is making big strides. We are raising the bar, and capacity building our beloved NABJ," Glover said. "Strong leadership is critical as members are responding positively to the improved value NABJ provides and, equally important, the media industry needs NABJ to be forward-thinking now more than ever. Sharon's dynamic leadership is right on time."

Sharon Toomer
NABJ secretary Cheryl Smith agreed. "While her resume was impressive and displayed the depth of experience and leadership necessary to lead the national office, also of significance is Sharon's passion, commitment, work ethic, management skills and sincerity," Smith said. "There's no doubt in my mind she is the ideal person who will be of great benefit." For Toomer, joining NABJ as executive director, "Is a rare moment in my career lifespan when opportunity, preparedness, shared interest and timing intersect." Definitely no stranger to the organization, Toomer said she considers it a privilege to work for an organization that she personally knows has made a difference for so many. "Since its founding, NABJ continues to be an essential pillar in the journalism and media landscape. In the world we're living in today, the talent, skill, perspective and nuance of NABJ and its members is even more urgent in journalism," she said. "Together, with an outstanding board, I look forward to advancing NABJ's mission, raising its profile and strengthening its capacity." Prior to joining NABJ, Toomer served as senior vice president for public affairs and
policy at Matlock Advertising & Public Relations, where she led the agency's Reputation Group in its work with a diverse portfolio of clients representing the corporate, nonprofit, academic and business sectors. Toomer has also served as chief of staff and senior policy advisor for U.S. Representative (D.C.-Shadow) Franklin Garcia. Toomer has also worked as an editorial producer for CNNfn and CNN Headline News and founded the award-winning digital news platform Black and Brown News. As a communications professional, Toomer served two Kings County (Brooklyn, NY) District Attorney administrations. She also worked for the Association of Black Foundation Executives, the Brooklyn Borough President's Office and the City University of New York faculty union. A past recipient of CUNY's Graduate School of Journalism Political Reporting Fellowship, Toomer's wide-range of experiences and multicultural worldview has earned her awards in journalism excellence, and appearances on television, radio, print and digital news outlets. Her diverse viewpoint brings nuanced insight and added value to the workplace, projects and dialogue on key issues of the day. NABJ Treasurer Greg Morrison also expressed excitement about Toomer. "I've known Sharon since she was a college student and I have watched her mature and develop as a team player and leader," he said. "She is definitely more than prepared to lead our national office. We are looking forward to great things under her tenure and I know she will make us proud." In addition to her organizational skills, Toomer expounds on key issues of the day. Next month, her perspective and writings on community violence and trauma will be published by the National Academy of Medicine's expert paper collection, Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health.

Miss USA - 2016 - to speak at 16th Sister to Sister Fitness Festival The 16th Annual Sister to Sister (5K) Fitness Festival will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Alan E. Sims Cedar Hill Recreation Center, 310 East Parkerville Rd, in Cedar Hill, Texas. The Honorary Chairperson will be DeShauna Barber, Miss USA of 2016. "When I lost my mother to cancer last August, it gave me an opportunity to understand how short life is. It also has given me the opportunity to understand how important it is to eat as healthy as possible and to treat my body like a temple," said Barber, who gave up her crown in June. "My main message that I want women to know is that we are fearless. We are limitless. I 've always been focused on inspiring women to chase their dreams and not feel limited by stereotypes or the umbrella that has been placed over us in this country," added Barber who is an Army Reserve officer. "This year's event is all about the family. When you have cancer, it doesn't just affect you, it touches everyone that you love," said

Dear Alma, My Dad and my Stepmom have been together for over 20 years. They both have and always did drink way too much. I’d even say both are alcoholics. Recently my Dad was hospitalized and obviously told he has to stop drinking. My Stepmom says that’s his problem, not hers. How do I get her to see what she’s doing is wrong and

I sympathize with the position you’re in. That still, however, doesn’t remove the fact that your Dad has an addiction that he’s “large and in-charge” of. Let’s pause here and give you a minute
Offer your Dad resources to finding a local Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. He has to take the first step. Once associated, I’m sure they’ll direct him on what his next step should be. Remind your father that facing his addiction is a sign of strength. Dear C.K., This is a tough situation and
to understand and resonate, this is your Dad’s burden to bear. Allow me a minute and address
the consideration and compassion this deserves. I say this as respectfully as I can muster – you can’t give up crack living next door to the crack house. You feel me? Offer your Dad resources to finding a local Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. He has to take the first step. Once associated, I’m sure they’ll direct him on what his next step should be. Remind your father that facing his addiction is a sign of strength. Let him know you’ll support him unconditionally. After taking hold of his responsibility, your Dad will decide what to do about your stepmom. That, too, is his choice not yours. I’ll be praying for your Dad, you and your family. Alma
