ELECTION
2012 On the Campaign Trail Veasey focuses on Schools and Opportunity for Texas Children (Fort Worth) In recent weeks, State Representative Marc Veasey has been the target of numerous false attacks from opponents in the race for Texas’ new 33rd congressional Marc Veasey district. As was noted in this Fort Worth Star Telegram editorial yesterday, Rep. Veasey has refrained from slinging mud in response. Agreeing with the sentiment presented in the FWST editorial, that voters are concerned with hearing about solutions rather than personal attacks, Veasey announced his intention to spend the final days of this campaign focusing on educational opportunity. “Working families in North Texas have neither the time nor the desire to wade through all this mudslinging,” said Veasey. “Schools in DFW are literally closing down, the ladders of education opportunity are being pulled out from under our children. I would rather talk about how we reverse course and focus on improving our schools rather than engaging in petty political attacks.” As Chair of the House Democratic Caucus during the 82nd Legislative Session, Rep. Veasey was instrumental in fighting the initial budget put forth by the Republican super majority in the state house. The initial Republican budget included a series of damaging proposals such as: § $9.8 billion in cuts to public education § $1.15 billion reduction for Closing the Gap Programs, including TEXAS Grant After strong opposition from Rep. Veasey and Democratic colleagues in both the state house and senate, Governor Perry and Republican legislative leaders were forced to scale back their proposed cuts. Thanks in large part to his work on public school funding, Rep. Veasey has been endorsed by the Alliance, American Federation of Teachers. “Marc Veasey fought Rick Perry’s budget cuts to public schools. Now we need you to vote for Marc Veasey so that we’ll have a fighter in Congress to protect our children and our educators. On fair pay for teachers, ending pressure to teach to the test and protecting size limits, Marc Veasey has been the candidate we can rely on and trust,” said Rena Honea, President at Alliance, American Federation of Teachers. In addition to the endorsement from the Alliance, American Federation of Teachers, Rep. Veasey has also been endorsed by an impressive list of some of PAGE 4

Texas’ foremost leaders on public education such as: § State Representative Scott Hochberg, Vice Chair of the Public Education Committee and widely considered the foremost expert on public education in the legislature § State Representative Dr. Alma Allen, Member of the Public Education Committee and former member of the State Board of Education § State Representative Mike Villarreal, member of the Public School Finance Committee § State Representative Mark Strama, member of the Public Education Committee § State Representative Joaquin Castro, Vice Chair of the Higher Education Committee § State Representative Eric Johnson, Member of the Higher Education Committee “In order to begin providing educational opportunity, you must build coalitions with colleagues who share the belief that education is priority number one. That is exactly what I was able to do in the state house and that is what I will do in Congress,” added Veasey. Some of the educational proposals Veasey has highlighted in campaign emails and literature throughout the campaign have been: § A promise to fight cuts to the Pell Grant program, such as those proposed in the Ryan budget. § A promise to work to help the President pass the DREAM Act, which would open the doors of opportunity to immigrant student who were brought to this country as children and played by the rules their whole lives. § A pledge to oppose private school vouchers that would divert critical funding away from the public schools that are already hemorrhaging teachers and packing too many students into too small classrooms. § A promise to continue fighting for early childhood education and voluntary pre-K program. “As President of Alliance, American Federation of Teachers, I know that Marc Veasey is the candidate who has been fighting for educators throughout the years,” concluded Honea.

The Star Telegram has barely mentioned Dr. Vickie Barnett's campaign for State Representative in HD101. Because of their selective "Good Ole Boy Reporting", they won't report the Dr. Vickie Barnett following: Dr. Vickie Barnett earned a BA in Telecommunications Management, MA in Project Management, and a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership. She is a Veteran, Educator, and Business Owner. Dr. Vickie Barnett is a Published Author and Grant Writer for several nonprofits. She volunteers and teaches job readiness & resume classes at the Arlington Life Shelter. Dr. Vickie Barnett is an Educator and Mentors, The Leading Ladies Youth Group. Dr. Vickie Barnett sponsored over 6 job fairs in HD101, where over 20% of the attendees have found employment. Dr. Barnett has lived in HD101 for 14 years. She didn't move here just to get your vote. Her opponents say they will stand up to Rick Perry...What does that mean exactly? What have her opponents done for the citizens in Arlington, Grand Prairie and Mansfield? DON'T BELIEVE THEIR HYPE ! They certainly haven't worked for the citizens like Dr. Vickie Barnett has! Elect Dr. Vickie Barnett for State Representative HD101! The change we need, the voice we deserve! SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT...
We can’t let the attacks succeed By Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.
The story of American democracy has been the expansion of voting rights to more and more citizens. Ye t n o w, conservatives linked to the Republican Party are systematically seeking to constrict the vote. We can’t let them get away with this. In the early republic, voting was often reserved for white male landowners. Over time, the vote was extended to working people, to women, to those 18 and older. The passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act was one of the transformative victories of the civil rights movement. Progressive movements have pushed reforms to make voting easier — same-day voter registration, extended voting days and hours, voting by mail. Now, however, across the country, we see a systematic effort to suppress the vote. Tactics include: Voter ID laws: According to a study by the Brennan Center, more than a half-dozen Republican-dominated states have passed legislation requiring an official state photo ID to vote. This makes voting harder for those without a driver’s license: the poor, students, urban dwellers, seniors and minorities. Brennan estimates that 5 million people could be hit by the laws. In 30 states, legislators have received “voter fraud” legislation from the American Legislative Exchange Council, the notorious right-wing network funded by the Koch brothers and others. Voter purges: Ohio has purged some 1,100,000 voters from its rolls since 2010. Cuyahoga County, which includes Democraticrich Cleveland, led with 267,071 voters removed from the rolls. Franklin County, including Ohio’s capital, Columbus, removed 93,578 voters. Those purged came disproportionately from counties with high minority populations. Similarly, in Florida, another key state, voter officials seem to gearing up an effort to purge the lists, with a focus on Latino voters. Intimidating voter-registration groups: The majority of those signed up in registration drives tend to be low-income or minority voters likely to support Democratic candidates. So conservatives have moved legislation to threaten voterregistration groups. In Florida, a new law imposing harsh penalties for registration mistakes led the League of Women Voters to discontinue its program altogether. I MESSENGER wants you to SPEAK YOUR MIND! The Changing Face of America – Circa 2050 “This is an important tipping point…a transformation from a mostly white baby boomer culture to the more globalized multi-ethnic country that we are becoming.”
continue to squander so much of our young human capital. Even as job creation continues to pick up, the unemployment rate for African Americans has exceeded 10% since 2008. It now stands at 13%. The rate for Hispanics also outpaces the national average at 10.3%. The high school dropout rate is also highest in these communities. It is ironic that the Census Bureau report was released on May 17th, 58 years to the day that Thurgood Marshall won the landmark Supreme Court case ending “separate but equal” segregation in our nation’s schools. While the hope was that Brown v the Department of Education would lead to better schools and a better education for all our children, America’s public schools are more segregated today than ever. And schools serving African American and Hispanic students remain unequal in terms of resources, funding and quality teachers. Recent political attacks on affirmative action, immigration and voting rights also make it clear that while African Americans and Hispanics are growing in numbers, our fight for civil rights and equality is far from over. It is time to put these old divisions behind us. The future is fast approaching and its color is going to look a lot different than the shades of the past. Marc Morial, former mayor of New Orleans, is the president of the National Urban League.

We’ve been hearing about it for years, and now the time has come. Last week the Census Bureau announced that for the first time, the birth rate of people of color exceeded that of whites: 50.4% to 49.5%. America is still a majority white country, with whites comprising 63.4% of the total population. But, the Census Bureau report covering the 12-month period that ended last July reveals that at a time when the white birth rate is declining, there are now 114 million minorities in the United States, or 36.6% of the population. Hispanics, now America’s largest minority group, led the way last year with 26% of total births. The African American percentage was about 15%, and for Asians it was about 4%. The country now has five majorityminority states: Hawaii, the District of Columbia, California, New Mexico and Texas. C l e a r l y, w e a r e m o v i n g inexorably towards the day in 2050 when the United States is a majorityminority nation. As noted in a recent Huffington Post column, “With fewer

white babies being born than Latino, black and Asian babies that may come a lot sooner than 2042 - the target year which demographers repeatedly cite.” This increase in the minority population is due in part to the influx of Hispanic immigrants over the past few decades, a trend which is now slowing. It also reflects the fact that with a median age of 42, the white population is aging while younger minorities, especially Hispanics, are moving into their peak child-bearing years. With African Americans and Latinos still over-represented among the unemployed and high school dropouts, this demographic shift should be a wake-up call to policy makers and employers. America cannot move forward if it continues to leave communities of color behind. We will not be able to grow our economy or compete in the 21st century global marketplace if we
On President Obama’s support of Gay marriages of a prevailing education system, is creating another issue in the black family; all combined killing the aspirations of Black Children. The churches of our community that were built with nickels, dimes, and quarters, now are having the most difficult time sustaining financially after incurring multiple challenges including the alarming rate of black men incarcerated and away from the home. “Additionally, minorities hold the highest rate for unemployment and the highest rate of broken homes.” “Is there a need for the President to discuss his personal belief that two men should be able to get married? I honestly believe Mr. President could make a better assessment of a personal opinion reflecting on how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi walked and protested peacefully concerning injustice that was not based on personal opinion but fact dealing with true human rights and civil rights. Although I still support President Barack Obama, I do not support any personal opinion that destroys the institution and sustainability of the Black Woman or the Black Church.”
President Obama delivers a personal opinion concerning, “Gay people should be able to get married.” Pensacola, FL -“I am a supporter of the President for the work he has done; however, I do have a concern of his recent statement. We have never considered anyone’s personal opinion in the commandment “Thou shall not kill,” only how killing destroys lives and families and is against God’s commandment. We must consider the fact that in our communities, the Black Church and the Black Woman are the pillars of the Black Community. Both the Black Church and the Black Woman are the threads of the fabrics that hold our culture and our beliefs together; it is the rock of the Black Community. Our culture and the livelihood of our communities already have significant and fragile lives. Particularly fragile, in the homes where the Black man is not present in the woman’s life. Overall, the black church is the backbone of our communities.” states Art Rocker.
Art Rocker
Rocker continues, “We know the church does not need us, but we need the church. We also note, black women have survived and prevailed throughout all of the challenges they have had with black men and families. However, now we do not need this personal opinion in further separation of families in our communities and our culture.” “We have won all of our uprising on prayer, faithfulness and grace day by day for this industry; the Black church and the Black woman. But for this issue to be placed at a time of lack of jobs, lack of hope, lack !

Seriously speaking about life Award-winning entertainer stresses healthy living By Cheryl Smith I MESSENGER
Kirk Franklin is an entertainer, a consummate professional. He’s a musician, choir director, actor, show host and author, but equally important, the energetic Fort Worth native is a family man and he’s spreading the same message that he shares at home--eat healthy and get exercise. “It makes me very proud as a dad that I’ve set an environment of being physically active and taking care of ourselves,” he said, adding that his family is very active, whether in sports or regular visits to the gym. “My whole family is engaged in physical activity and we talk about ensuring that we have a proper diet too.” Interestingly while he talked about eating properly and the importance of taking care of your body, Mr. Franklin was also focused on keeping pace on the treadmill. “You’ve got to make sure you get it in when you can get it in,” explained the Grammy awardwinning recording artist who is headlining the Power To End Stroke Power Sunday at St. John Church in Grand Prairie on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the 11:00 am service at 1701 West Jefferson Street. The message he has for congregants at St. John, and throughout his travels, is that it’s very important that not only the soul is taken care of, but you have to work on “taking care of your body.” “I try very hard to be proactive so I am going to talk about working out, staying in shape and what happens when you don’t.” Mr. Franklin knows exactly what happens when you make lifestyle changes. He’s no stranger to “addressing issues close to our community,” and whether he’s working with AIDS patients or speaking to youth, he is candid and focused!

“The issue of heart disease is something that I am passionate about, personally,” he said, explaining that family members have dealt with high blood pressure and taking necessary steps made for a positive diagnosis in their lives. “My mother and my father-inlaw were on blood pressure medicine for many years and after changing their lifestyles and their diets, they are no longer on medication,” he said, adding that he is also proud to

partner with the American Heart Association to spread such an empowering message that will hopefully benefit many. Noting that stroke is the 4th cause of death and the leading cause of disability in the country, Mr. Franklin talked about the impact of strokes around the world as he praised the American Heart Asocialtion for its continued efforts to educate and encourage communities. Acknowledging the strong emphasis on health at St. John, Mr. Franklin said he was glad to be able to take his message to Pastor Denny Davis’ congregants. He knows that Blacks have a higher risk of death from a stroke than other ethnic groups and the mostly African American congregation needs to hear the message, again and again. “It’s an important message,” said Mr. Franklin. St. John‘s Chief Administrative officer Darryl Thornton agreed,
“May is National Stroke Awareness Month and African Americans are disproportionately affected by strokes and we know that there are many of us in the community who don’t know the signs. Partnering with Kirk and the American Heart Association gives us an opportunity to inform the community.” He continued, “It was a natural fit for Kirk to come to St John and Highlight National Stroke Awareness Month.” And when someone has as demanding a schedule as Mr. Franklin, eating healthier foods and fitting an exercise regimen into the mix is so important he acknowledged as he talked about an upcoming tour, “The King’s Men,” that includes other Gospel greats Marvin Sapp, Donnie McClurkin and Israel Houghton. Admitting that he’s “working really hard” in preparation for that tour, Mr. Franklin pointed out that there are other things on his plate, in addition to being a husband to Tammy and father to their children. He’s also preparing for a new season of the hit BET show, “Sunday Best.” The popular show debuted in 2007. Mr. Franklin is the host while a number of Gospel greats have served as judges in this competition that provides a number of prizes to the winner. “We’re getting ready for another season and we’re very proud of the talent on the show,” said Mr. Franklin. “I get great joy out of doing the show and I am very glad that people support it.” The ever-popular entertainer hopes his message of taking steps to end strokes will be as warmly received as his music because he is passionate about both. “Taking care of ourselves is very important,” he said. “That’s the message I want to get across to the congregation on Sunday.”
WARNING SIGNS OF STROKE: • SUDDEN numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body. • SUDDEN confusion, trouble speaking or understanding. • SUDDEN trouble seeing in one or both eyes. • SUDDEN trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance/coordination. • SUDDEN severe headache with no known cause. • Not all of these warning signs occur in every stroke! RISK FACTORS FOR STROKE THAT YOU CAN’T CHANGE: • Age - The chance of having a stroke approximately doubles for each decade of life after age 55. While stroke is common among the elderly, a lot of people under 65 also have strokes. • Family History - Your stroke risk is greater if a parent, grandparent, sister or brother has had a stroke. • Race — African Americans have a much higher risk of death from a stroke than Caucasians do. This is partly because blacks have higher risks of high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. • Gender — Stroke is more common in men than in women. In most age groups, more men will have a stroke in a given year. However, more than half of total stroke deaths occur in women. At all ages, more women than men die of stroke. Use of birth control pills and pregnancy pose special stroke risks for women. • Prior stroke, TIA or heart attack — The risk of stroke for someone who has already had one is many times that of a person who has not. Transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) are "warning strokes" that produce stroke-like symptoms but no lasting damage. RISK FACTORS FOR STROKE THAT YOU CAN CHANGE OR CONTROL: • High blood pressure — High blood pressure is the leading cause of stroke and the most important controllable risk factor for stroke. Many people believe the effective treatment of high blood pressure is a key reason for the accelerated decline in the death rates for stroke. • Cigarette smoking — In recent years, studies have shown cigarette smoking to be an important risk factor for stroke. The nicotine and carbon monoxide in cigarette smoke damage the cardiovascular system in many ways. The use of oral contraceptives combined with cigarette smoking greatly increases stroke risk. • Diabetes mellitus — Diabetes is an independent risk factor for stroke. Many people with diabetes also have high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol and are overweight. This increases their risk even more. While diabetes is treatable, the presence of the disease still increases your risk of stroke. • Sickle cell disease (also called sickle cell anemia) — This is a genetic disorder that mainly affects African-American and Hispanic children. "Sickled" red blood cells are less able to carry oxygen to the body's tissues and organs. These cells also tend to stick to blood vessel walls, which can block arteries to the brain and cause a stroke. • High blood cholesterol — People with high blood cholesterol have an increased risk for stroke. Also, it appears that low HDL (“good”) cholesterol is a risk factor for stroke in men, but more data are needed to verify its effect in women. • Poor diet — Diets high in saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol can raise blood cholesterol levels. Diets high in sodium (salt) can contribute to increased blood pressure. Diets with excess calories can contribute to obesity. Also, a diet containing five or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day may reduce the risk of stroke. • Physical inactivity and obesity — Being inactive, obese or both can increase your risk of high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. So go on a brisk walk, take the stairs, and do whatever you can to make your life more active. Try to get a total of at least 30 minutes of activity on most or all days.. AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

IN MEMORIAM Harold Baron Jackson November 3, 1915 – May 23, 2012 Harold Jackson was an American disc jockey and radio personality who broke a number of color barriers in American radio broadcasting. Mr.
Jackson was born in Charleston, South Carolina and grew up in Washington, D.C. where he attended Howard University. He began his broadcasting career as the first African-American radio sports announcer, broadcasting Howard’s home baseball games and local Negro league baseball games. In 1939, he became the first African American host at WINX/Washington with The Bronze Review, a nightly interview program. He later hosted talk show, a program of jazz and blues on WOOK-TV. Mr. Jackson moved to New York in 1954 and became the first radio personality to broadcast three daily shows on three different New York stations. Four million listeners tuned in nightly to hear his mix of music and conversations with jazz and show business celebrities. In 1971, Mr. Jackson and Percy Sutton, a former Manhattan borough president, co-founded the Inner City Broadcasting Corporation (ICBC), which acquired WLIB — becoming the first African-American owned-andoperated station in New YorkThe following year, ICBC acquired WLIBFM, changing its call letters to WBLS ("the total BLack experience in Sound"). As of the late 2000s ICBC, of which Mr. Jackson was group chairman, owns and operates stations in New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Fort Lauderdale, Columbia, South Carolina, and Jackson, Mississippi. In 1990, Hal Jackson was the first minority inducted into the National Association of Broadcaster's Hall of Fame. and Blues Foundation in 2003. In October 2010 he was named a "Giant in Broadcasting" by the Library of American Broadcasting. Mr. Jackson was the founder of the Hal Jackson Talented Teens Miss International Competition. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg issued the following statement: “Today, we mourn the passing of Hal Jackson, a radio pioneer and a member of the Radio Hall of Fame whose voice broke through color lines and broke down racial barriers for countless Americans. Hal was not only the first African-American voice on network radio or the first AfricanAmerican play-by-play sports announcer, but an iconic legend who during the Civil Rights movement gave voice to the many who simply did not have one. When Hal moved to New York, he continued to lead the way at 107.5 WBLS for so many AfricanAmerican radio announcers who followed. On behalf of a grateful city, our sincerest condolences and prayers are with his family at this time.” VIEWING; WEDNESDAY MAY 30TH 2P-5P AND 7P-9P FRANK E. -- Dallas’ long, hot summer will be a little less unbearable this year for a special group of senior citizens in West and South Dallas. The Theta Alpha Foundation, in cooperation with the Theta Alpha chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., will donate 22 window air conditioning units to area senior citizens selected by Lakewest and Park South branches of the YMCA. “For nearly 20 years we have distributed hundreds of electric fans to help senior citizens cope with our notoriously hot summers,” said Royle King, chairman of Theta Alpha Foundation. “Because of the severity of last summer’s heat wave, we thought that making air conditioners available to senior citizens may be more beneficial, and perhaps even save a life.” Theta Alpha Foundation supporters and the organization’s youth mentoring group -- the Omega Sparks -- will meet representatives of Home Depot to take delivery of the a/c units during the Lakewest YMCA “Community Day” Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Lakewest Family YMCA is located at 3737 Goldman, Dallas, Texas 75212. “We will continue to look for ways to partner with other organizations on worth- while projects like this,” said Mr. King. “We hope this effort will be the catalyst for more opportunities to make a difference in the lives of Dallas area citizens.” DALLAS

Entrepreneur develops stove offering safe, low-cost answer to addressing hunger in Africa Dallas, TX (BlackNews.com) -Ethiopian entrepreneur Yusuf Tura couldn't stand to see his African brothers and sisters battle hunger, choke on smoke from indoor fires that were polluting villages and causing severe burns. The former taxi driver took the little money he had to spend months researching how he could manufacture a stove that would provide residents in Africa - and communities around the world - a more durable, safe, low cost and efficient solution to cooking their food while saving their environment at the same time. "My dream is to save life, trees and create green jobs for people that are living on less than one dollar per day," Tura said. "I have already done so. This project has created hundred of jobs. It's a solution to prevent death, deforestation, protect wildlife, and fight poverty by creating jobs for locals. And, the stove costs less than two cups of Starbucks coffee." With the help of friends at Lake Forest Rotary Club of Seattle, Tura founded his nonprofit company Green Energy Without Borders to create the "Ten Dollar Stove", which is made of sheet metal that currently is handcrafted by residents of his homeland. Instead of using charcoal briquettes or wood, Tura uses agricultural waste such as stalks, leaves and cobs from corn as well as of sugar canes and rice husks that can burn up to four hours. In many parts of Ethiopia, Tura says, residents have stripped the forests of trees used to burn in their stoves or build houses. With the huge success of popular book series and movie, Hunger Games, Tura is !

setting out to spread the word about his development in hopes of raising money to expand the manufacturing of these sorely needed devices. "With right help there's no reason why millions of families couldn't benefit from these simple stove," he said. Tura's life journey is fascinating. As a young boy, he was separated from his family and ended up at a Kenya refugee camp, like many Ethiopians, who found themselves in a war-torn nation. With help from the U.S. State Department, he traveled to the United States where he worked in a cafeteria in Baltimore and drove cabs in Olympia, Washington. He befriended many local Ethiopians who inspired him to pursue his dream of inventing the stove, which he is hoping will make a difference in millions of lives.

Sex Controversy in the Church
Kenny Pugh, best-selling author, radio show host and singles minister
Atlanta, GA (BlackNews.com) -- In the latest issue of Ebony Magazine, an article penned by author Chevonne Harris takes a look at how Christians, who are unmarried, but not so young anymore, are balancing their faith while falling into premarital sex. A young woman in her 30's admits to being 'Single, Saved and Having Sex', the title of the article, and struggling to remain abstinent until she marries, the preferred way God intended Christians to follow. Bestselling Author, Singles Minister, Radio Show Host and Relationship Expert, Kenny Pugh, known as The Relationship Strategist responded to the article on social media after several requests from his followers familiar with his platform of promoting sexual abstinence until marriage, the crux of his bestselling title, "Can You Do IT Standing Up? A Different Position on Relationships" (November 2011). His rants garnered the attention of author, Sophia Nelson who was also quoted in the book along with editors at Ebony Magazine. A single Christian man that has practiced celibacy for over six (6) years, Pugh disagrees with many of the contents of the article, specifically where it insinuates it is difficult for women to find a man who's a Christian and willing to wait until marriage before having sex. According to the author, "...finding a
Christian man who is actually willing to wait may be easier onscreen..." than in real life. Pugh retorts, "Single, saved and having sex is one of the contributing factors of covenant relationships declining. Sex doesn't equal commitment but often gives a false sense of connection." He continues, "Any person using the rationale of Well if I want them to be with me then I need to have sex with him/her should ask how many times that has worked in the past? If that would get any one to the altar quicker, I think we would see more singles getting married." Kenny serves as leader of the Metro Atlanta Christian Singles (M.A.C.S.) group and organizes the efforts of single adults from churches across Metro Atlanta including offering singles ministry consulting. He was recently head of the singles ministry at a megachurch in metro Atlanta and has organized several singles events where hundreds of men and women gather to support and hear him speak. Awarded the 2011 Gospel Choice "Rising Star" Award for his service in the community within the singles ministry, Pugh is a highly sought-after motivational speaker with a platform that rests on celibacy and abstinence as a way to improve and change the trend of divorce, especially in the Christian community. His bestseller, "Can You Do IT Standing Up?" was written to provide insight in helping people make healthier relationship choices. Kenny knows firsthand the kinds of pitfalls and challenges individuals face when they invite sex into a relationship that pans out to be unhealthy or simply not the right person for them. He shares, Emotions are very powerful and outweigh a persons ability to think clearly when a relationship has met its expiration date once sex is involved. He explains, For women, they release a hormone called oxytocin that connects two people during a shared experience a mother with her child during child birth and a woman with her husband through sex. So if you're having sex outside of marriage, then ponder that one. With fans and followers that usually take to social media to connect with "The Relationship Strategist", Kenny engages them with topics; questions and tips with hopes to offer critical thinking and thought processes that encourage singles to make better relationship choices. Host of The Chat Kafe Show that airs Mondays on Love 860 AM in Atlanta, Tuesdays on U-Stream and Fridays on 1570 AM (Atlanta) where he deals with these topics weekly, Pugh

THE VICTIMIZATION OF GOSSIPING
Personal Insight and Reflection on the Gossipers That We Encounter in Our Lives, Short shares his outlook on some of his recent bouts of becoming a target of gossipers and how to look at the positive side of these encounters. According to Short, all victims of bullying know how much it hurts to have gossiping used a weapon against them. In his book, Short continues in his 'thinking out loud' commentaries, concerning the subject of gossiping. The book is especially geared to those who can relate to becoming a victim of gossip and slander. In his own words, "Gossiping is a form of bullying, and once you know how to recognize the true value and selfworth of these persons in your life, then you will be able to see the positive side of these trials and feel more optimistic and empowered to walk through them emotionally unscratched."

Moody’s reverses its decision, Dallas County outlook “stable” Dallas, TX -- Last year, in response to Congress' inability to find a long-term solution to the debt ceiling crisis Moody's Investor Service put a total of 177 public finance issuers including over 160 local governments under review for possible downgrade due to a concern that federal cuts could negatively impact their creditworthiness. Although Dallas County retained its AAA rating, Moody’s gave Dallas County a "negative outlook." Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins went to Austin and enlisted the help of the General Counsel of the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, Steve Aragon and requested a revaluation from Moody's. Judge
Jenkins and Aragon worked with the county's financial team, which included County Treasurer, Joe Wells, outside advisors and top staff for nearly two months in an attempt to change the rating agency's mind. As a result of the Dallas County team's successful advocacy, Moody’s has changed their prognosis of Dallas County's outlook from negative to 'stable.' This represents a pivotal decision on the part of Moody’s, an agency which rarely changes its mind. The team submitted a lengthy document which amounted to a legal brief pointing out the institutional strength of Dallas County and its relatively insulated position
from changes in federal spending. Judge Jenkins said, “Moody’s was responsive to our request for a revaluation and made the right decision. Our financial advisor says in 21 years he has never had this happen before but the removal of the negative outlook was a top priority for me because a "stable" outlook saves tax dollars. Our financial team embraced the challenge and I want to thank them for their hard work as well as recognize the work of Commissioner Tom Suehs and General Counsel Steve Aragon of the Texas Dept. of Health and Human Services for their help in educating Moody's on issues affecting the county."
MAY 25, 2012
Judge Jenkins added, "We think our work product can serve as a template to raise the ratings and/or outlooks of similarly s i t u a t e d Te x a s counties and we are Judge Clay Jenkins happy to share it." Moody's now believes that the depth and breadth of the county's tax base provides a source of considerable credit strength in revenue raising flexibility. Dallas County is one of a handful of double AAA bond rated governmental entities in the nation.
Win a House or $20,000 Family of four entrepreneurs hold Write-In Contest to declare winner BALCH SPRINGS, A write-in contest, that focuses on how to "Pay it Forward" in today's society, is now open to the first 10,000 people who enter. The winner will choose if they want to win a house, located at 14313 Briarcrest Dr., Balch Springs, TX, or $20,000. Contest opens May 26, and closes at 10,000 entries, or October 26, whichever comes first. "This is a write-in contest that focuses on the entrants IDEA, not their spelling or grammar.,” says Erin Chavez, co-host to the "Pay it Forward" contest. Entries must be kept between 200-300 words, be the original idea of the entrant, and the focus must be how the entrant wants to "Pay it Forward" in today's society. Chavez adds, "This type of contest has been tried a handful of times across the US; but their only focus has been to get rid of their house. None of the previous attempts from other people have ever included anything that we are doing." The Chavez family is taking a tried (and often unsuccessful) method and adding tremendous value for everybody who enters.
Not only will the ultimate winner choose between accepting the house, or $20,000 as their prize, but all of the entrants will receive: * Over $300 worth of downloadable products – just for entering * Up to $65,000 will be given back to the entrants through random check mailings The top ten entries will also receive a free consultation to "take their idea to the streets with little to no money", courtesy of SolopreneurSteps.com. The cost to submit an entry is $104; but Chavez reiterates, "We put ourselves in the shoes of the entrants. We asked ourselves what we would want in a contest like this. We decided that we would want to know that we received value for our entry - if we won or not - and we would want money! So we have designed this contest in a way that will pay it forward to the entrants no matter what." The Chavez's are a family of four entrepreneurs who want to help others while helping themselves. They feel it is important give back, give value, and give hope. PayItForwardContest.com
