Aunt Anna introduced the switch to this “city girl.” Never in my life had I felt such a sting as I did when that switch came down on my legs! Immediately I had unhealthy, unGodly thoughts as I tried to shield myself from the vicious swipes as the swish of the switch whizzed past my head. Some might say she was justified in her actions. After all, she did tell us over and over again to cut out that “fussin and fightin.” The “us” she was talking to were my older brother and I in corner number one and her two daughters and one son in the other corner. The fighting was on at an intense level and she said, “enough is enough!” Now this switch thing was new to me. Sure my mother had an urge from time to time to pick up and propel whatever was close by, because she said a “hard head makes a soft behind,” but a switch never Cheryl Smith entered into any of our punishment phases! If I could have gotten on a flight right then and there, I would have left Tampa, Florida, never to return. Even though I probably only got about three swats, I felt totally brutalized and wanted my “Mother.” That was until things settled down and I had a moment to reflect on what would be waiting at Newark Airport. The mere thought of Earline whipping my butt from the moment I stepped off the plane, as we walked through the airport, all around the baggage area pickup, into the car and all the way home, made me think again. And if that thought wasn’t enough to make me get myself together, well, the idea of her not even taking the time to settle in and put the luggage down before she sent me to “get the belt,” was. My mother didn’t like us “embarrassing” her and my aunt Annie Mae Walker stressed the importance of loving, not fighting with your family 9/24/24 -6/5/12 members. The memories of my Aunt Annie Mae Walker are numerous. For years we would go to visit her during summer months. She always wanted to make sure that I was comfortable and my stomach “full.” She was responsible for me meeting the wonderful James Brown when I was a young child. Decades later I met him again and told him how I chose a backstage meeting with him over five smelly boys from Gary, IN. During the National Association of Black Journalists Convention in Tampa three years ago, I slipped away from the convention center to spend time with her. As always she was concerned about my comfort. Aunt Anna sure could cook and growing up we had big, big breakfasts. I used to laugh at her middle daughter, Rose Mary, who had to have pork and beans with her grits, every morning! The oldest boy, Nat, was closer in age to my mother so he was never a part of that childhood experience in the household, but Diane and Little David were also there to make things exciting. Then there were the road trips with all of us children, Aunt Anna and Uncle David. My uncle worked for a car dealership and he was always transporting cars to “exotic” places like Key West. Thinking back, they had a lot of patience because we were more than a handful! Aunt Anna loved to go to Atlantic City, or anywhere she could enjoy some good casino action. She had a good running partner too, with my mother, because they had yet to find a casino they didn’t like! When I got word that Aunt Anna had made the transition, I immediately felt for my mother because this was her last living sister. Thank God her sister-in-law, Aunt Caroline, is still around at the ripe age of 95. My mother has been to the funerals of Ethel Bee, Lucille, Flora Lee as well as her brothers: Robert, James Junior, Curtis and Sammie. There was also Pearline, who died during birth. Now it’s just the two babies: Earline and Eddie. My mother says she feels an emptiness, but she has a lot of fond memories too. Even though she was the feisty younger sister who Aunt Anna tried to keep in check, my Aunt also spoiled my mother. I am glad they stayed in touch and talked regularly, usually making plans for their next casino excursion. Even at 88, my Aunt Anna’s death was unexpected. I already miss the kind way she would talk to me and I am glad she got to see me grow up and mature. Looking back, she probably didn’t even want to whip me. It was actually those other bad kids that needed to feel that sting! Which leads me to reports that Pastor Creflo Dollar was arrested in Fayette County, GA, after he “slightly hurt his 15-year-old daughter.” According to sources, at around 1a.m. the two were arguing about whether or not she could go to a party. Okay, my mind is racing, actually running wild. As a 15-year-old, I never “argued” with an adult. Now he faces misdemeanor charges of simple battery and cruelty to children. Sheesh! Today my Aunt Anna probably would have gotten a lethal injection. Clearly things are out of control and we need to get back control of our homes and our schools--and that’s something we can’t do if we keep letting our children rule. That switch didn’t kill me or scar me for life. I thank God for parents like Annie Mae Walker!

ELECTION
2012 On the Campaign Trail CONGRESSMAN ED TOWNS ENDORSES BARRON FOR CONGRESS By Amadi Ajamu
Congressman Ed Towns and Candidate Charles Barron Brooklyn, NY (BlackNews.com) -At a press conference on Monday, Congressman Edolphus Towns announced his endorsement of NYC Councilman Charles Barron in the race for the right to represent the 8th Congressional District in Brooklyn. The newly drawn district encompasses much of the 10th C.D. which Congressman Towns currently represents. Mr. Towns announced last month that he will not seek re-election. The Charles Barron for Congress Campaign Headquarters on New Lots Avenue in East New York Brooklyn was filled with news reporters, photographers, and supporters as Congressman Ed Towns solidified his support for Councilman Charles Barron. "Let me begin by saying, so there is no question; I'm endorsing Councilman Barron for Congressional District 8," Towns declared. The crowd erupted and began to chant "Charles Barron for Congress!" Towns continued, "One might ask the question why? Well I'm glad you asked the question. We need a strong voice in Washington DC. A person that's independent, and is going to tell it like it is. I've had the opportunity to work on several issues with Councilman Barron. "When we worked on Starrett City, there is no question about it, if it wasn't for the Councilman making certain that I PAGE 4
"
was aware of all the information, a lot of people in Starrett City would've had to live in fear. But as a result of our actions, the people know that even if Starrett City is sold, they would still be able to remain in Starrett City." "We need to have someone that's going to be involved in a direct fashion. None of this wishy-washy stuff. Talking one thing in this neighborhood and another thing in that one. We need to have somebody that's going to look at the facts and tell it like it is because that's the way it is." "I've come today to join with Councilman Barron who will soon be Congressman Barron. So Councilman, I am here, my entire organization, and everything I have will go into the 8th
Congressional District." Councilman Barron replied, "I would like to say on behalf of all of us in the 8th Congressional District, having the Congressman's endorsement, we are honored. We accept it with honor, and what better person can we have, than one who has been around here for thirty years." "When I go to Washington he can help me navigate the waters of Washington. He knows the needs of our seniors, of our youth, of our working families in this district.Whenever Barron and Towns come together powerful things are going to happen." "This is a great boost following the District Council 37 endorsement. From DC 37 to Congressman Towns to Washington DC." Councilman Barron has represented the 40th Councilmanic District for the past 12 years, and is New York City's number one Councilmember in building affordable housing, new schools, and new parks. VEASEY HEADS INTO RUNOFF WITH COMMANDING LEAD (Fort Worth) Candidate for the new 33rd congressional district in Texas, State Rep. Marc Veasey will be entering a
runoff after garnering 38.16% of the vote with 87% of precincts reporting. Despite facing ten opponents, two of whom were millionaires self-financing their races, Rep. Veasey pulled an extremely good share of the vote from every corner of the district. Rep.Veasey, Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, has been the frontrunner throughout the race and was able to garner major endorsements including those of the former Congressman Martin Frost, former Speaker of the House Jim Wright, the AFL-CIO, the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. In addition, VMr. easey led all candidates in fundraising in each reporting period. The following is a statement from State Representative Marc Veasey: “A runoff was all but inevitable but tonight’s results reflect the excitement we have seen around this campaign since we began. Voters have genuinely appreciated our positive Marc Veasey campaign that focused on my record of building coalitions to get things done when it comes to public education, healthcare and the local job market. You saw that excitement reflected in the endorsements by both major regional newspapers and in the fact that I led all candidates in fundraising totals. “I was disappointed in the tone of my opponents’ campaign up to this point and it is my sincere hope that this runoff will be more focused on solutions rather than personal attacks. For my part, I intend to continue talking to voters about my record of success as a legislator and my ideas for solving the issues that voters really care about.” Just days after running first in the May 29th Democratic Primary in new Congressional District 33, Rep. Marc Veasey announced that a number of key Hispanic leaders in North Texas have endorsed his candidacy. Former Dallas City Councilman and CD33 candidate Steve Salazar, State Representative Roberto Alonzo (HD104 – Dallas), State Representative Rafael Anchia (HD103 – Dallas), Dallas City Councilwoman Monica Alonzo, Dallas Constable Beth Villarreal, the Honorable Jose Plata and former CD33 candidate J.R. Molina are backing Representative Veasey in his July 31st run-off campaign against Domingo Garcia for election to Congress in New CD33. The endorsements demonstrate Veasey’s momentum in the race and his ability to build a strong and united coalition in the diverse new district. Former Dallas City Councilman Steve Salazar who ran an active, positive campaign in CD33 said, “Throughout my career, as both an elected official and an attorney, I have prided myself on fighting for the rights of working people,” He continued. “I believe Marc Veasey is the man best able to take that fight to Congress and that is why I have decided to give him my endorsement.” Dallas County Elections Department "

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT...
Marching for Reform This Father's Day 'Stop-and-Frisk' Is the New Racial Profiling By Rev. Al Sharpton President, National Action Network In the late 1990s, while seeking justice for the families of four young Black and Latino men fired upon 11 times by the NJ State Police, we coined the term 'racial profiling.' Validated by stats released by State officials themselves, racial profiling pointed at the systematic culture of NJ police in ethnically targeting blacks and other minority drivers. We marched, went to jail and pushed for anti-racial profiling laws to be placed on the books -- and they soon were. Other states then followed NJ's path and re-examined their own policing practices. Today, in the city of NY, we are facing another troubling form of biased profiling and searches known as 'stop-andfrisk.' Only difference is, this time, you can be targeted for simply walking down the street. On June 17th, Father's Day, National Action Network (NAN) will be joined by the NAACP, the SEIU and 115 other organizations in a historic march down 5th Avenue in Manhattan as we demand an end to 'stop-and-frisk.' Bringing attention to the continued pattern by the NYPD of routinely stopping and searching people of color -- especially young black and Latino men (often times without probable cause) -- we call on Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Mayor Michael Bloomberg to implement reform at once. Creating databases of folks that have been 'stopped and frisked,' the NYPD has criminalized an entire generation of racial minorities in this city. In 2011 alone, the NYPD stopped 685,724 people, out of which nearly 87 percent were black or Latino. That is no small coincidence; it's racial profiling in its most basic and blatant form. And contrary to the department's insistence that these tactics somehow prevent crime, out of the hundreds of thousands stopped, 88 percent were found to be innocent according to the NYCLU. Those are some staggering and sobering figures. When a majority of those targeted by police are young men of color and when the bulk of them are innocent, what else are we to conclude other than the fact that the NYPD has been implementing a policy of racial profiling and discrimination? If true crime prevention were the goal, then perhaps police would work with community organizers and leaders who strive daily to better their neighborhoods. Perhaps officers would actually live in the areas that they patrol. And perhaps community policing would be allowed in black and brown communities. If you do not know us, if you cannot tell the difference between a true criminal and someone you believe 'appears' as a troublemaker, then you are in no way qualified, nor justified to deliver your brand of 'law enforcement.' Any true believers out there? Dear Friend: This year MOTHERS AGAINST TEEN VIOLENCE set a new bar for what is achievable in our organization. For years I had envisioned expanding the MLK Luncheon into a full conference. In January—thanks to the unwavering support of an outstanding Board of Directors—we made it happen, hosting the first ever Texas Conference on Drug Policy at the grand Hall of State at Fair Park. The Conference featured separate tracks for criminal justice and public health, offering 14 sessions and 24 speakers and panelists. Over 250 persons attended the 2.5 day event. Our facilitators and volunteers worked diligently to make our Conference a first-rate event. Attendees responded enthusiastically to the compelling subject matter and the first-rate cadre of s p e a k e r s i n c l u d i n g D r. E t h a n Nadelmann, director of Drug Policy Alliance; Captain Neil Franklin, director of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP); best-selling author and addiction physician Dr. Gabor Maté, and a long list of notables considered preeminent in their respective fields. For many, the Conference represented their first deliberate and thoughtful consideration of the issues raised; and many, many hearts and minds were indeed changed. Session evaluations were 96% favorable. We envision holding the Conference biennially to correspond with the off-year of the Texas Legislature. While the Conference is our most notable achievement of the year, we are by no means resting on our laurels. For example: v We convene the monthly Drug Policy Discussion Group to offer a safe and inviting environment to discuss a topic that is often personal and can be difficult. Dr. W. Marvin Dulaney who chairs UTA’s History Department, does an outstanding job as facilitator. v Our Community Engagement Committee is a coalition of organizations engaging local governments on issues of harm reduction. In March, I submitted a proposal to create a Dallas County Drug Abuse and Addiction Task Force. The Committee has been successful in garnering the approval of a majority of the commissioners, and Sheriff Lupe Valdez. It is our hope that the commissioners will formally consider and approve our proposal in the next 60-90 days. Meanwhile the Committee will continue its work on this and other harm reduction issues. v As we prepare for the 2013 legislative session, the harm reduction
message remains front and center. Even if the legislative environment does not improve with the fall election, we will allocate the available resources to the important work of educating lawmakers about the benefits of harm reduction. v And finally, about a year ago I joined the steering committee of Moms United, a national movement of mothers to end the drug war. I recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to speak in support of the Moms Bill of Rights at the National Press Club. The compelling videos of the speakers have been posted on YouTube. Whether I’m traveling across the country or across town, I bring no less than my passion, commitment, and my best effort to this work because I am a True Believer in drug policy reform. And if you agree that: · a public health approach to drug abuse and addiction is our best hope at reducing the demand for drugs and drug related violence; · we only increase the harms when we incarcerate nonviolent drug offenders; · we can no longer afford the

June is never easy for me. This is the month of my son Chris’ birth (13th) and death (19th). But I am convinced that my loss can serve no greater purpose than to hasten an end to a war waged, not against drugs, but against people. My friend, this work deserves your support. DFW Pride Movement announces Trailblazer’s Hall of Fame Dallas, TX….“Always Moving Forward” is their motto and that’s exactly what Dallas community based DFW Pride Movement Incorporated is doing once again, by taking one giant step for equality and another for positive recognition of the African American LGBT Community in Dallas. In May 2011, President Barack Obama officially proclaimed the month of June to be National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month. In his proclamation, the President stated, “Each June, we commemorate the courageous individuals who have fought to achieve this promise for LGBT Americans, and we rededicate ourselves to the pursuit of equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.” With that statement, the President unknowingly ignited a passion deep within the core of the DFW Pride Movement and the Trailblazer’s Hall of Fame Awards came into inception. Organization Executive Director and founding member of the official Dallas Black Pride Board of Directors, Derrick Spillman, felt it necessary for the African American community to outwardly express and celebrate the positive contributions made by community members, stakeholders, allies and partners. These individuals and/or organizations being
past and present trendsetters or role models within the vast areas of the African American community; having made outstanding contributions and demonstrated uniqueness within their environment. June 29, 2012, at 8:00pm; the vision becomes reality. The DFW Pride Movement will host the 2012 Trailblazer’s Hall of Fame Awards at the Angelika Film Center and Café located within Mockingbird Station at 5321 East Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, TX 75206. The event is slated to be a Red Carpet “White Tie” Affair with this year’s theme being “Celebrating Our Own.” The ceremony will be followed by an after party at PLUSH Night Club located Downtown Dallas at 1400 Main Street. Black Mayors meet in Atlanta Mayors, Agents for Change:Thinking Global, Acting Local He is up for reelection but that won’t stop U. S. Congressman John Conyers, Jt. (D-MI). If re-elected to represent the 14th Congressional District it will be his 25th term in the U.S. House of Representatives. In Mr. Conyers' 40 plus years in Congress, some of his major accomplishments include: the Violence Against Women Act of 1994, the Motor Voter Bill of 1993, the Martin Luther King Holiday Act of 1983, the Alcohol Warning Label Act of 1988, and the Jazz Preservation Act of 1987. He was also the driving force behind the Help America Vote Act of 2002. One of many elders in attendance at the 38th Annual Convention for the National Conference of Black Mayors, May 30-June 3, 2012, Rep. Conyers continued to address issues as he discussed everything from voter suppression to the Violence Against Women Act. The NCBM honored Mr. Conyers, Mayor Shirley Gibson, Rev. Joseph Lowery and others during their five-day conference that focused on key issues like education, voter information, HIV/AIDS, social media and building stronger cities, while also forging relationships internationally. A founder of the Congressional Caucus, Rep. Conyers was gracious in his acceptance of the honor and
encouraged mayors to continue remaining focused on the issues. “There’s a lot of work to do,” he said. The conference also featured former Dallas Mayor and now U.S. Trade Ambassador Ron Kirk, Ambassador Andy Young and host Mayor Kasim Reed of Atlanta. NCBM President, Mayor Robert Bowser of East Orange, NJ, urged members to “remain focused on the purpose and mission” of the organization. “This is not a time to sit on the sidelines,” he said. “ This is our time to get involved in the work of our organization. Every Mayor domestically and abroad is an asset that adds to the collective value of NCBM.” Praising the groups’ over 660 mayors, NCBM executive director Vanessa Williams stressed the significance of the convention theme, “Mayors, Agents for Change: Thinking Global, Acting Local.” “Agents for Change” suggest that the organization’s now 668 African American mayors are interested in being on the cutting edge while forging global partnerships,” she said. “It is our intention to create a universal blueprint, an action plan that will serve as a building block for our Mayors and their counterparts for years to come.
An exciting component of the convention was the international flavor as mayors from around the world converged on Atlanta. Acknowledging their participation, Ms. Williams said, Ambassador Andy Young “I am extremely humbled by the value have added to our organization. The working relationships and municipal development collaborations we have embarked upon, have been a tremendous sustaining force for our organization.” The National Conference of Black Mayors (NCBM) represents 668 African American Mayors across the United States; collectively its membership represents over 48 million citizens. NCBM is a leader in the redevelopment of our most vulnerable communities and works towards the empowerment of leadership on the local level.

seniors with monetary scholarships at the “McMillan 20: College Bound... Reaching for the Possible Program Finale and Scholarship Awards Luncheon.” This special event will take place at the Cedar Crest Golf Club in Dallas on Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Lynne Haze of KRNB 105.7 will serve as the emcee. “The Urban Financial Services Coalition-D/FW has been mentoring this group of talented high school seniors students since they were young third graders, so we are extremely excited to be awarding scholarships to be applied towards their post secondary education,” said Lee McKinney, advisory board member and former president of Urban Financial Services Coalition-D/FW. The “McMillan 20: College Bound... Reaching for the Possible Program Finale and Scholarship Awards Luncheon” will conclude a program that began back in 2003 when the Dallas Morning News featured an article highlighting Ms. Rosalind Smith of J.J. McMillan Primary School in Dallas. The article discussed how Ms. Smith encouraged 20 of her third grade students to mail letters to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to increase their awareness about colleges and universities and the importance of pursuing education beyond high school. Many of the HBCUs contacted by the students, responded by sending the group of third graders personalized notes and memorabilia. Inspired by the story, Urban Financial Services Coalition-D/ FW decided to “adopt” the students by mentoring and encouraging them to pursue education beyond high school. Throughout the years, the organization has nurtured an on-going relationship with the students by engaging them in college-related activities which included providing resources for developing personal, professional and communication skills; financial planning; preparing college and financial aid applications; and attending college tours and sporting events. Urban Financial Services Coalition-D/FW called this project the “McMillan 20: College Bound…..Reaching for the Possible” and committed to award a scholarship to each student upon high school graduation to apply towards their post secondary education expenses. Today, nine years later, Urban Financial Services Coalition-D/FW is in touch with eighteen of the twenty students who are just a few weeks away from high school graduation. The “McMillan 20: College Bound... Reaching for the Possible” Program Finale and Scholarship Awards Luncheon will recognize each of these students by awarding them with the scholarship promised nine years ago. This celebratory luncheon will take place at the Cedar Crest Golf Club on Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. It will feature many highlights to include a motivational keynote address; delectable cuisines prepared by Awardwinning Chef Keith “Buttons” Hicks of Buttons Restaurant; celebrity guest presentations; an awards ceremony and a
musical performance by students that participated in the program. Tickets are $40. Purchase online at http:// mcmillan20luncheon.eventbrite.com. For information about tickets or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Akilah S. Wallace at mcmillian20@ufscdfw.org.

PROMINENT AUTHOR CHALLENGES BLACK RELIGIOUS LEADERS TO SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE Through his books, controversial writer Terry E. Hill is challenging ministers of color around the country to step forward and publicly declare their support for Gay marriage. Even though some have paid a high price for supporting gay marriage, their convictions and faith have outweighed the fear of challenging the status-quo. Mr. Hill is the author of the popular and controversial Sunday Morning Trilogy. The first novel in the series, Come Sunday Morning, was released in 2011. The book caused an uproar in the Black faith community by publicly tackling the topic of homophobia in a fictional mega-church based in Los Angeles, California. "I was raised in the church so I speak from experience," he said. "I am amazed, and embarrassed, that in 2012 gays and lesbians are still marginalized in the Black church and, on a regular basis, subjected to derogatory comments from the very pulpits they support with their tithes, talents and prayers." One of the most prominent ministers to publicly support gay marriage is Reverend Amos C. Brown, pastor of Third Baptist Church in San Francisco. Rev. Brown, a Baptist minister and board member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People stated it would be hypocritical for the 103 year old civil-rights organizations not to pass its recent resolution supporting marriage equality, reports APB News. In Come Sunday Morning, Samantha Cleaveland arranges the assassination of her husband Pastor Hezekiah Cleaveland after learning of his homosexual affair. After his death
Samantha is installed as pastor of New Testament Cathedral and the head of the international television ministry. According to Mr. Hill, he wrote the book to shine a national spotlight on the hypocrisy that he has witnessed in the black church. "There would be no national or international gospel music industry if it were not for the talent of gays and lesbians. Usher boards would shrink, choirs would dwindle and the w e e k l y d o n a t i o n s w o u l d s u ff e r significantly without the generosity, love and support of gays and lesbian." Another minister who has made national headlines on the subject of gays and religion is the Reverend Carlton Pearson. Rev. Pearson was ousted from his mega-church in Tulsa, Oklahoma for teaching that Muslims, Buddhists, and homosexuals go to heaven. The larger faith community has however rallied around Pearson and many are now embracing his teaching of inclusion. Although Mr. Hill's books are fiction they contain enough truth and realism that they have resonated with many who are aware of the double standard in many churches and are supportive of a more evolved and inclusive approach to homosexuality. The second installment in the Sunday Morning Trilogy is scheduled for release in June 2012. In When Sunday Comes Again, Samantha out maneuvers all who challenge her and expands the ministry into one of the largest in the country. Mr. Hill comments, "Even though the books are fiction my intent in writing them was to spark a national dialog on this very important issue. We can't continue to pretend that gays and lesbians are not important and valuable members of the faith community. We need to acknowledge they are entitled to the same rights and privileges, and to be treated with the same dignity, as all other members. I am proud of pastors like Reverend Brown and Reverend Pearson. They are the forward looking thinkers of our time and are quickly emerging as the new leaders of the Black Church." More about Terry E. Hill can be found at www.terryehill.com

It's like watching a motion picture where each graphic panel represents one frame in the reel and your mind is the projector, the screen and the audience." "The voice that you hear in your head is far stronger in this book than the others, because you're seeing the detailed built, face and nationality of the characters as they speak. Another rather valuable difference is the way this graphic novels' author can drop subtle hints that go a long way in explaining things that are not really in line with the m a i n s t o r y, b u t a r e i m p o r t a n t nonetheless. Small things that explain the scene in such detail can only be found in this graphic novel. This is possibly the best e-book graphic novel you can get for your Kindle," says Mr. Thompson.

ourselves and for ourselves. Major publishing companies have the idea that African Americans don't read enough. So they only sign up authors that write about what they think we want to read about. For example; 'books for reluctant readers'. But on other hand, in our culture, we do communicate primarily by oral means, and place value on what people say, and on what we hear, rather than what we find out through print. As a result, we don't raise our children to place value on reading or writing." But the author has gone beyond traditional design to develop an exhilarating way to influence African Americans to read more without changing who we are and what we are accustom to. Mr. Thompson has written a contemporary African American historical fiction Kindle e-book called, Gathering of Owls: Blood Pressure, The Graphic Novel (see - www.amazon.com/ kindle), which has been proven to appeal to universal groups of readers. Not only has this novel evolved to meet the ever changing needs of today's market, but was written to teach about the past, move onward into the future, designed to make reading fashionably cool again, and to ensure the most successful showing possible. Gathering of Owls also comes with an online media center (www.gatheringofowls.com) which is getting millions of visitors and supporters. The term, 'Evolutionary Technology' simply means an innovation that improves a product in an existing market in ways that customers are expecting. And that's exactly what Gathering of Owls" does. According to Mr. Thompson, "It's like asking someone what they see when they look at a painting. Sometimes, there isn't much to decipher, while often you will have people arguing over the true meaning. Same goes for this graphic novel Kindle e-book; whether you're reading it to gain knowledge or just for the heck of seeing mind- blowing pictures, this is the one to get!" He continues, "When readers read this book, the panels form a basic framework of thought, around which

Pastoral Counseling Center Unveils Image Update New Campaign Message: Healing Matters DALLAS – Pastoral Counseling Center (PCC), formerly Pastoral Counseling and Education Center, has announced their new tagline “healing matters.” The meaning behind the message is twofold. First, it communicates PCC’s staff members’ ability to help individuals work towards healing their mental health matters. Secondly, it communicates to clients, their families and the community the importance of mental health treatment. Clients want to be knowledgeable and comfortable with PCC before they step foot into a therapist’s office. As a result, a major portion of the update is the development of a new website, www.pccdallas.org. The site provides information on all of their available services. “In today’s society, seeking mental health treatment usually has a negative connotation. One of our goals is to overcome this association by getting information about PCC out to North Texas,” said Wayne Albrecht, Executive Director of Pastoral Counseling Center. “Individuals should be praised for their pursuit of a more
meaningful and happier life, and we feel healing matters clearly communicates our vision.” Design At Work, a Houston based fullservice advertising and public relations firm, developed the new campaign. For branding consistency, the campaign will appear on PCC’s signage, brochures and more. This will create an identity for PCC and top-of-mind awareness in the community encouraging people to seek treatment from their caring staff. Pastoral Counseling Center is the largest faith-based counseling center in the Metroplex. Since 1968, PCC has been a place of refuge for those seeking compassionate guidance and faithintegrated counseling. The Center provides a full-range of services, including marriage and family therapy, counseling for individuals and veterans, a seminar for divorcing parents, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and more. The not-for-profit organization believes everyone should have access to treatment, regardless of their financial status, and offers an adjusted fee payment scale based on income for clients.
