SMU group visits Rwanda

A group of 20 SMU students, faculty and staff will be in Rwanda Aug. 3–13 to witness the deep emotional, physical and environmental scars of genocide while contributing to the African country’s recovery efforts. After Rwanda’s 1994 civil war, in which as many as a million people were killed in 100 days, “history lives on,” says Rick Halperin, director of SMU’s Embrey Human Rights Program, the trip’s sponsor. “The ethnic tensions that led to mass slaughter 18 years ago still reside below the surface. And while there’s no imminent danger of such ethnic violence reoccurring, Rwandan society is clearly struggling to heal.” To contribute to the healing process, trip participants will give the Urukundo

Women of a New Tribe is an exhibition created by North Carolina photographer Jerry Taliaferro, designed to honor the physical and spiritual beauty of the Black American woman, emphasizing her soulfulness – her spirit of hope, compassion, love and nobility. Taliaferro presents his subjects in the dramatic, high-glamour style reminiscent of Hollywood photography from the 1930s and 1940s. The photographs, which now consist of more than 200 images, explore different themes such as tribal beauty, portraiture and family relationships. Mr. Taliaferro explains that the exhibition title was inspired by hearing author Toni Morrison refer to African Americans as “new world Africans” in an interview on National Public Radio. This resonated with him as he believes that “African Americans are a new people born of the American experience.”
As Women of a New Tribe travels throughout the United States, each community hosting the exhibition is offered the option to have local women photographed and to have their portraits included in the core exhibition. As such, the Miami-Dade County Aviation Department community nominated women from the Department to participate in the project, and as a result, contribute to the growth and diversity of the exhibition. Seventeen women were nominated by their peers, colleagues and/or supervisors and selected for inclusion based on a strong record of service to the Aviation Department, as well as community service and volunteerism. Every one of these women fulfills a unique and vital role in the Department and within her community. Through this exhibition, the women are honored and recognized for their contributions to the workplace and their charitable service to the South Florida community.
Home for Children 200 pounds of school supplies donated by the SMU community, 250 pounds of books for children and young adults given by Half Price Books, and $2,000 worth of medical supplies provided in part by Project C.U.R.E., a Denver-based service group for which SMU student Hayley Wagner is a summer intern. The SMU group also will visit genocide sites and meet with survivors. For more details about trips sponsored by the Embrey Human Rights Program in SMU’s Dedman College of Humanities & Sciences, visit smu.edu/ humanrights or call 214-768-8347.

I received the note below in my inbox. It wasn’t the first note appealing to me for assistance. When I can I do. When I can’t, I still share the information in hopes that someone will be able to assist. Here is the plea: I have a cry out to the community for help. I got a ca" #om a local minister, who put this lady in touch with me, let me know if you can help. Story-here name is Judy Palmer, mother of 5 sma" kids, living on government assistance. Hopefully someone will be able to reach out! Over the years I have seen some good and bad times. I have had folks assist me when I didn’t realize I was in need and thankfully I have been in a position to reciprocate. There was a time when I gave not he street corners as I waited at stop signs. Too often I gave to people who had more dollars on them than I did. And sadly some might have been scam artists. Friends would admonish me, saying that I was helping that person finance their drug or alcohol habits. I was asked time and time again if I really thought the person was going to go purchase a two-piece or a six-pack. Actually after the money departed my hands, it was no longer my issue. I had other things to worry about, instead of chasing a dollar that I had put in the hands of someone I felt needed it more than I. So, whatever happened next, well, it is what it is and not for me to ponder, or worry about. Now Travis is reaching out and I hope that someone will answer the call. We must protect our children and we must make sure that Ms. Palmer has support so that she won’t give up. Have you ever felt overwhelmed, as though the pressure was about to make you burst? Well, I have a friend, actually a few, who have been the light at the end of a tunnel for so many other folks. Those friends have stepped up and made a big difference by helping people to get over the “hump.” Now that “hump” is a monster. Some people don’t get over it. For others, just a little help and they can make it over. Maybe you can be the light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe, just maybe you can help Ms. Palmer and her five children. Who knows, one day, it may be your day. In the meantime, and the between time, do something for someone else. Spread the love!

NABJ selects Boston for 2014 Convention City National Convention Visits New England Region for the First Time
WASHINGTON --The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) has announced the selection of Boston as the host city for its 2014 Convention and Career Fair, July 30- Aug. 3, 2014. "NABJ is excited about going to Boston in 2014 for our 39th annual convention. It is a fabulous city with the right mixture of a prime location, hotel price, convention space and leisure activities to make a great convention for our members," said Gregory Lee Jr., NABJ President. "NABJ has never held a convention in Boston. We look forward to this convention and partnering with a city that celebrates culture and tradition." In recent years, Boston has played host to other minority and journalism conventions, such as The National Urban League, Blacks in Government, the Online News Association, and the Asian American Journalists Association. "We couldn't be more excited to welcome the National Association of Black Journalists and their attendees to the City of Boston," said James E. Rooney, executive director of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority. "What better location to host NABJ than Boston, a city rich in journalism history and home to America's very first newspaper (The Boston News-Letter). 2014 can't come soon enough." PAGE 8

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT...
Leadership Principle By Aaron Hopkins
As I began to reflect on this vast subject of leadership and how it is shown, I had to pause a moment and look at my own principles of leadership to ensure I’m not being hypocritical. With that being said, I must give credit to Mrs. Shellye Jackson Lyons of The Lyons Group, LLC for asking me what leadership is and what it means. Mrs. Lyons is a Dallas metro area entrepreneur and business owner who provides business solutions -including marketing, media and advertising. Thank you again for your question, Mrs. Lyons! I look at how my leadership in my home is unsuccessful at times and what the perspectives of my wife and children are when I fail. This exercise, to me, is a fundamental part of character building. As a man I think in a way that sometimes is in direct conflict with my wife’s way of thinking, but the intentions are never meant to clash. I realized recently that to communicate with someone who is looking at you to be a leader is challenged by strong emotions that often cloud rational thinking. Traditional values also come into play when it seems everyone can define what a leader should be but so few step up to assume a leadership position. So when I offend my wife by making a decision that she disagrees with it tends to make me less willing to be traditional in my leadership because I see a pattern of households falling victim to a dream concept. You know the “American Dream” a house with a white picket fence, a dog and perfect little children." Well, here is the real deal. I know what my wife wants from me and what I want for her so as a man, and as her husband, I make decisions on how to get to the desired destination with the skills and knowledge that I have. The problem is that somebody forgot to remind us that this was a dream! One the biggest obstacles in reaching some of our goals in marriage is financing a dream on an unreal income! I have come to understand that my leadership is short-circuited by a system that sucks the lifeblood out of me and leaves little to no substance for me to give my family a chance to depend on me as a leader. However, I know I am not alone in this situation. I can see now more than ever that the family is under attack! Money and the lack of it, is what is keeping good families at odds with one another. So this requires a type of leadership that is righteous at the core and uncompromising to the normal way of this capitalistic world. Wives do realize that they are renting their husbands out to a system that cannot and will not allow them to be men and great providers. To provide for ourselves we must be able to do for self and stop being comfortable making everybody else rich as we drown in poverty. So leadership must come in the form of a man relying on God to restore his proper leadership role in the home and in society. A man’s way of providing for his family used to mean making a good reputation of his family’s name so that he could obtain the necessities of life, without becoming financially bankrupt. The rich people of the world exploit the leadership of good men and women to keep themselves in positions of privilege and authority. So it is time to change leadership right? And I don’t mean the President of the United States! Part three of the “leadership principle” next week! Till then keep working on the leader within! PAGE 9

Worrying about my Black boy’s future in America My husband and I fuss and fret over our black boy. Like other parents, we worry about a lot. We want him to use his smarts for good. Do we coddle Allison Brown him too much? We want him to be tough and kind, but assertive and gentle, and not mean. His boundaries of independent exploration are radiating outward, concentric circles growing farther and farther from us. We wring our hands and pretend to look away in acknowledgment that he's ready to claim his freedom, even as we cast furtive glances his way. We're beginners in the worry department. He's only 9 years old. Our angst certainly isn't unique among parents of black boys. What's unique for us and for other such parents is that when we peek inside the matrix, we panic. Agents out there are bearing down on our son bloodthirsty for his dignity, his humanity as if he were the one. We feel outnumbered, but we hunker down for battle. This is not a paranoid conspiracy rant. Recent data from the Office for Civil Rights in the U.S. Department of Education reveals that black boys are the most likely group of students to be suspended or expelled from school. Black men and boys are more likely than any demographic group to be targeted - hunted, really - and arrested by police. Meanwhile, the number of black males taking advanced courses in elementary, middle and high schools and entering college remains disproportionately low. Suicide among black boys is increasing. Media imagery and indifference have locked black boys in their sights. Prisons have become corporate behemoths with insatiable appetites for black and brown boys and men. My husband and I rightfully agonize about our boy. We agonize alongside many who are working to help, including the federal government. I know firsthand the work that the federal government has done and is doing to improve circumstances for black boys. This includes internal memos and meetings, interagency planning sessions, public conferences, community meetings and listening sessions, and now a White House initiative. I also know that the federal government is accountable to numerous constituencies that sometimes have conflicting needs. Federal government
workers must walk a fine line among varying public interests, which occasionally has meant unintended consequences for black boys. For instance, in 1994, the federal priority of "zero tolerance" for anyone bringing a weapon to school was signed into law as the Gun-Free Schools Act. That priority reached fever pitch after the Columbine school massacre in 1999 and subsequent copycat slayings and attempts to kill. Federal requirements were overshadowed by local authorities and school administrators who stretched the parameters of "zero tolerance" in schools beyond logical measure to include, for instance, spoons as weapons and Tylenol as an illegal drug, and to suspend and expel students as a result. "Zero tolerance" has entered the realm of the ridiculous. Many schools have removed teacher and administrator discretion and meted out harsh punishment for school uniform violations, schoolyard fights without injury and various undefined and indefinable categories of offense such as "defiance" and "disrespect." Students are suspended, expelled and even arrested for such conduct without investigation or inquiry. There is no evidence to support use of exclusionary discipline practices as tools for prevention, and they have no educational benefit. The brunt of this insanity has fallen on black boys. Recent federal priorities have targeted harassment and bullying in school to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students from peer-on-peer discrimination dismissed by, and in many cases encouraged by, school administration. Again, understandable. The goal is praiseworthy - to protect, finally, a population of students and segment of society that has long been a whipping post for every political party, ignored in political discussions except to condemn. While my husband and I have ardently supported federal protections for LGBT students, practically speaking, we continue to lose sleep over our black boy. Another peek inside the matrix tells me that the fever pitch around this latest federal agenda item will mean a significant cost to black boys when new categories of offense are created, new ways to characterize them as criminals unworthy of participating in mainstream education or society. It's one thing for educators to guide student conduct and educate students about
how to care for and respect one another, which is a primary focus of the federal move against harassment and bullying. It's quite another to change mindsets of adults who run the system, too many of whom believe and speak negatively about black boys and what they cannot accomplish or should not do. To speak and think affirmatively, to affirm behavior and black boys as people, is to relish the silly jokes they tell within their context, to compliment them on their haircuts or groomed and styled dreadlocks and cornrows, to adopt lingo they create and add it to classroom repertoire, and to invite their fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, cousins to participate in the educational experience. To support black boys is to celebrate their physical playfulness and the unique ways in which they may support and affirm one another. As with any other children, we must teach black boys through instruction and by example how to read and write, and how to conduct themselves without erasing their identity and attempting to substitute another. We must hone their instincts, whims and knowledge base so they can be empowered to exhibit all the good in themselves. We must be willing to show them our human frailties so they know how to get up and carry on after falling down. Yes, these things can benefit all children, but many children receive them by default. Black boys do not. To love black boys is to refuse to be an agent of forces clamoring for their souls and instead to be their Morpheus, their god of dreams, to help them believe in their power to save all of us and to train them to step into their greatness. Those agents in the matrix are real. If everyone combines forces and uses common sense, we can declare victory for black boys and eventually all of us. But without a change in mindset, federal initiatives, no matter their good intentions or the incredible talents that give them life, will continue to leave black boys by the wayside as collateral damage. My husband and I will continue to fret, knowing the formidable challenges our son faces. We hope that if he has a son, that boy can be just a boy. Allison Brown is a former trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, Educational Opportunities Section. She is president of Allison Brown Consulting, which works with educators, students, families and other key stakeholders to improve the quality of education, especially for black boys. America's Wire is an independent, nonprofit news service run by the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education and funded by a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Help! My Target gift card has gone missing. The Target gift card Robert Brown ordered for his grandson is missing in action, and the store isn't saying when it will send the scrip. Can anyone help him find it? QUESTION: I have a problem with Target that I’m hoping you can help me with. I have been waiting for an electronic gift card to be sent to my grandson for the last three weeks. I’ve made two phone calls and sent an email to Target, but they will not tell me when the card will arrive. I think there’s a serious problem. Can you give me a name and phone number of a senior executive in customer service at Target? Or better yet, could you help me get that gift card? Thank you. -Robert Brown Grand Haven, Mi. ANSWER: You ordered a Target e-GiftCard for your grandson, which is a basic gift card minus the plastic. You can find the terms and conditions of the card on Target’s site, which are pretty interesting, even if you’re just an average customer. Among the zingers: Regardless of the stated cash value of the card, it has a cash value is 1/10 of one cent. I’d love to see someone try to redeem that! I mention the terms because nowhere in them does Target guarantee it will sent a purchased e-GiftCard to a customer within a set amount of time. It could just pocket your money and send your grandson the certificate when he graduates from high school. Not that it would, but it could.

Calling Target was a good first step, and following up with an email was even better. You need a paper trail because you may have to prove that you’ve done your best to fix a problem later on. The correspondence will prove it. Only Target records your phone calls -for “quality assurance” purposes, I’m sure. Target’s advertising promises its e-GiftCard’s are a “faster” way of purchasing store credit, but not for you or your grandson. It’s unclear what caused the delay. It might have been a glitch in Target’s system or it’s possible that you gave the company an incorrect email address. Target wouldn’t say. If emails sent through the Target website aren’t doing the trick, you might want to appeal this to an executive. I’d send a quick email to Kathryn Tesija, Target’s executive vice president of merchandising. I’m sure she’d be more than happy to help you. Her email address is Kathee.Tesija@target.com. I contacted Target on your behalf and it issued a new gift card six hours later. Consumer advocate Christopher Elliott answer your questions every week on this site and on his consumer advocacy blog. Choosing the right person! Super Hollywood casting director Tracy "Twinkie" Byrd says that I am in for a pleasant treat when I see the remake of SPARKLE, featuring Jordin Sparks, the late Whitney Houston, Mike Epps, Derek Luke and a host of other recognizable names that are expected to garner huge numbers at the box office on August 17, actually a short 11 days after the birthday of Ms. Houston, who died earlier this year. Ms. Houston’s appearances in The Bodyguard, The Preacher’s Wife and Waiting to Exhale translated into very Tracy "Twinkie" Byrd impressive numbers and the Jersey Girl was sure to be at all the junkets and press events for SPARKLE 2012. I told Ms. Byrd that I would keep an open mind. Even though I can watch SPARKLE 1976 time and time again, I will wait and see what SPARKLE 2012 has to offer. One character I was having a hard time visualizing was Mike Epps, in the role of Satin Struthers. One of the funniest guys on the circuit, I really took notice of Mike Epps in last year’s blockbuster, Jumping the Broom. I had never envisioned him as a sex symbol but according to Ms. Byrd, who was responsible for
casting several of the characters for SPARKLE 2012, Mr. Epps is on point and an exciting component of the movie. “Just wait until you see it,” she said, as she talked about Ms. Houston’s stellar performance. “You are going to love it!” Notorious, Stomp The Yard, Scandal, Avatar, and Jumping the Broom are some of the projects Ms. Byrd has worked on and she says it was especially exciting working on SPARKLE 2012. Ms. Byrd said it was a pleasure working with the cast of SPARKLE 2012. It was also an emotional time following the death of Ms. Houston, who plays the mother role in the movie. SPARKLE 2012 has a strong buzz right now and industry insiders say they expect it to do well at the box office. I’m excited about the project and looking forward to seeing the performances and seeing Ms. Houston’s last acting performance. Ms. Byrd has a proven track record and a group of talented professionals were assembled, so “let’s roll em!” CLS

Ms. Smokes was inducted onto the S y r a c u s e P r e s s C l u b ' s Wa l l o f Distinction, a permanent exhibit at the Civic Center. Earlier this summer, Smokes started a radio program on WHEN Power 620 AM to feature women's views on politics, culture, business, race, religion, and relationships. As word of her death traveled in Central New York, Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle (R) Onondaga, issued the following statement: “I am saddened to learn of the passing of Saundra Smokes. While I did not know her personally, I had the opportunity to be on Ms. Smokes’ radio show and often read her work. Regardless of the topic, her work was thought provoking and interesting. She had a passion for her community that was evident in her writing and had a positive impact on so many lives. My thoughts and prayers are with Ms. Smokes’ family and loved ones at this difficult time. She will be missed.”

11am. Sometimes lunch would last until nearly dinner time. But no matter how late he stayed out George would always show up at 5am, ready to go. He was unflappable on the air and was known as the best breaking news reporter in the Bay Area. When George was on the story, you didn't have to worry. George had a number of health problems through the years. He was once hit by a car while walking home. I visited him often while he was in the hospital. He recovered. He had other problems that attacked his body but he never lost his spirit... or that voice. I will always remember that voice. We talked before he retired and he said he wanted to keep working but he physically just couldn't do it anymore. My heart goes out to Camille, Adrian and Isaiah. Your dad was the best!” Aside from his radio career, Harris had also done stints in television news, at KING-TV in Seattle, and, for a time, at KRON 4.

Q. Everyday I see new commercials on TV and advertisements for a new and “different” way to lose weight. In fact, I have tried a few of them myself. Is there a secret to weight loss, and keeping the weight off? A. Billions of dollars are made every year because people hope that the latest fad or craze is the secret that they just haven’t tried yet! There is no secret to losing weight, but there is a principle. The principle is to eat less calories than you use. For every 3500 calories you consume that you don’t need, your body will store a pound of fat. How much you weigh has to do with how much energy, or calories you consume. It has little or nothing to do with how nourished you are. Any time that you make a change in what you have been eating, i.e., eating less calories, you are going to lose weight. The method doesn’t really matter. It may be a low carbohydrate
diet, a high fiber diet, a gluten free diet, the cabbage diet, the grapefruit diet, or any one of the thousands of “diets” that have been promoted over the years. The key is sticking to whatever plan you have put yourself on. Fortunately, most people cannot comply with drastic dietary patterns that would be harmful to your body if you stayed on them very long. Additionally some of these “miracle” plans are so boring that you simply don’t want to eat anything! Research bears that out: a smaller variety of food will help you eat smaller portions. There are healthy principles of weight loss and you don’t have to buy the latest book or order the latest TV plan. 1) make small dietary changes that you are willing to keep over a period of time; 2) eat smaller portions; 3) eat healthy snacks; 4)prepare food with less oil or fat; 5) eat “mindfully”, meaning don’t multitask when you are eating your meals; 6) increase physical activity by doing something you like to do, and are physically able to stay with. This plan will “let” you eat the foods you like to eat, individualize your meal plan, and over a reasonable period of time will pay off dividends in pounds lost.

Indeed, any food can be contaminated with bacteria and, thereby, become a source of bacterial contamination. However, if you keep it free from bacteria, an onion is not considered a potentially hazardous food. Q. I love to prepare baked fish; however, my husband only likes it fried. How can I encourage him to try it baked? A. Here is a quick and easy recipe that we had a few days ago. My husband also prefers fried fish; however, he loved this recipe. I think it’s because of the extra flavor! We used maui-maui; however, this will work with catfish, tilapia, or any other mild, white fish. FIESTA FISH 4 fillets mild white fish ½ package dry Fiesta Ranch dressing mix 1 cup nonfat sour cream 1/3 cup mayonnaise crushed tortilla chips
Q. How long can you keep a sliced or chopped onion in the refrigerator?
Combine dry dressing mix with the sour cream and mayonnaise. Coat the fillets with the mixture and lay in a single layer in a casserole dish.
A. If the onion is not contaminated by handling in the kitchen, you can reasonably expect to last about a week. After that, it will deteriorate quickly. There have been urban legends on the internet claiming that sliced onions are a source of food poisoning.
Sprinkle the crushed tortilla chips on the top of the fillets. Bake in a 375 degree F. oven until the fish flakes and the chips brown a little. Serve immediately.

Rep. Johnson hosts 6th annual Youth Summit and Diversity Dialogue
Congresswoman Johnson with participants during the Summit
Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson recently held her daylong 6th Annual Youth Summit & Diversity Dialogue at Southern Methodist University. The summit provided a forum for students to explore diversity and cultural awareness programs and to participate in interactive breakout sessions. Students between the ages of 13-17 from the Dallas Fort-Worth area were selected to participate in the summit. “This year’s theme is Putting Our Signature on the Future. This summit is designed to foster diversity and stimulate dialogue on issues that will affect you, your classmates, and your communities. Everyone here in this room today has the potential to make real and positive
change in their communities,” said Congresswoman Johnson. “As you become young adults, we will look to you to provide leadership, and to find solutions to the growing problems facing our world today.” The day began with an opening ceremony where students heard from Dr. Gerald Turner, President of Southern Methodist University; Catherine Monson, CEO of FASTSIGNS; and Sarosha Hansraj, Founder of Children Care for Children; Bonnie King, Regional Environmental Education Coordinator of Environmental Protection Agency, in addition to remarks from Congresswoman Johnson. Catherine Monson, CEO of FASTSIGNS, INC., who was featured on the CBS TV Series Undercover Boss,
provided valuable professional leadership insights to include her very own “7 Steps to Success.” At the conclusion of the summit, students incorporated Ms. Monson’s steps into the closing ceremony program. Congresswoman Johnson and the panelists concluded the summit by encouraging the group to continue serving as young leaders in their communities and to engage in dialogue to foster an understanding of cultural differences on how best to promote a climate for social change. To culminate this experience, students from the summit will participate in a service project at the Texas Discovery Gardens at the end of August.
NBCC responds to report by US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP Committee) on For-Profit College WASHINGTON-In response to a report released by the US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP Committee) on proprietary colleges, Harry Harry C. Alford Alford, president NBCC President of the National Black Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) issued the following statement: "We are disappointed by reports that once again, Senator Tom Harkin (DIA) has unfairly targeted private sector education in a biased report that has the potential to negatively affect the prospects and opportunities for higher
education and job training for thousands of low-income and minority students. In many underserved communities, access to education is a lifeline. The National Black Chamber of Commerce believes that actions against industries offering educational options to our nation's African American and minority students are partial and detrimental to e d u c a t i o n a l a d v a n c e me n t in o u r communities. Senator Harkin, who we do not believe speaks for the entire committee, may be misjudging how critical proprietary colleges are to serving minority students. Nearly half of students attending proprietary schools are minorities. They choose these colleges for their flexibility, career focus and success with nontraditional students. Given that just over eight percent of
Senator Harkin's constituents are considered minorities, perhaps he is a bit out of touch. The National Black Chamber of Commerce remains committed to ensuring that African American and other minority students are afforded the opportunity to choose the education institution that best suits their needs." The National Black Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to economically empowering and sustaining African American communities through entrepreneurship and capitalistic activity within the United States and via interaction with the Black Diaspora. 10 ways to go From Girlfriend to Wife
By Steven James Dixon Special to I MESSENGER Be a Woman All Day, Everywhere Take pride and dignity in your womanhood. Have self respect. I tell women every day that if you don’t respect yourself, then no one in the relationship respects you. You make everyone else respect you, why do you let a man disrespect you? A man shouldn’t even have a choice in whether or not he is going to respect you. Be Independent Not just financially, but be an independent thinker overall. Take the time to learn you and what works best for you instead of taking someone else’s advice and forcing yourself into a box. Your core person should not change simply because you are in a relationship. Be independent of your man and have your own life, goals and ambitions. Stay On Your Tippy Toes Don’t get comfortable and lazy on your man. Don’t just think that he is going to marry you because you have been together for a few years. Get fine-ER, get smart-ER, be bett-ER. A man wants to see growth in you and wants to be excited about who you will be in the future. Turn His House Into a Home As a single brother, my crib had the bare necessities. A woman came by one day and slowly started to upgrade my stuff in a very subtle but profound way because no woman had ever done it before. First it was a couple nice decorative candles; then she replaced my picture frames and artwork. She helped me paint a couple of rooms in my house. I was like “She knows what she doing, I am going to marry her.” Be a Godly Woman There is just something sexy to me about a Godly woman. You want a Godly man, don’t you? The Bible is a relationship handbook. Read it. Follow it. Live by it. When your man is weak, you need to be able to refer to dat word. When the Devil attacks, he needs to know that you know God. Watch His Momma, Do What She Do You don’t have to be his Momma, but you should try to be in her likeness.

The next morning, he has got to turn over like, “We forgot to eat dinner last night, I am starving. What got into to you last night? Were you on ecstasy or something? Listen, I can’t do all that anymore, you hurt my back.” Here is an example: during the holidays when you were at your man’s family home, if his grandma, momma and auntie were all in the kitchen and you were in the den watching the game with him, y’all probably had the best time ever, right? But guess what, he’s probably going to break up with you. You should be in that kitchen with his female relatives or else go and find yourself a man whose mother can’t cook. Show YOUR Woman There are certain things about you that make you woman. There are certain things about you that make you the best woman for him. It is your responsibility to show him your strongest qualities as a woman. If you know how to take care of a man, then you need to show him that. If you are a great cook – “Show & Prove”. If you have a huge heart that is full of love then he needs to be caught up in your rapture. He better know what makes you unique as a woman. Be His Biggest Fan Women need love. Men need their egos stroked. We need your support, your encouragement, and we need to know that you believe in us. Tell him that he is a good man, that you are lucky to have him, that he is special and that he is a better man than you had initially thought. If you can’t make your man feel like a man, you won’t have the job for long. Nurture Him The art of nurturing a man has been lost. Talk sweet to your man and whisper sweet nothings in his ear.
