(214) 941-0110 Students to commemorate Historic Selma March
State Senator Royce West (D-Dallas) has called together students from more than 20 student government and youth organizations across Dallas County to reenact the historic march that took place 50 years ago on Saturday March 21, 1965 in Selma, Alabama in protest of restrictive voting laws. The tribute to those who fought for voting rights legislation will take place Saturday, March 21, 2015, on the Continental Avenue Pedestrian Bridge, located at 101-115 Continental Avenue, west of downtown Dallas. The march will begin at 1:00 p.m. "It can seem that today's youth are far removed from what young people, both Black and White, were involved in across the South some 50 years ago," said Senator West. "But we as adults, as leaders and parents and as beneficiaries, many who were alive in 1965, cannot allow those efforts to be confined to video images and history books. They happened and those sacrifices helped pave the way for the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that replaced, for the better, a patchwork of laws across a number of mostly Southern states that restricted the ability of minority citizens in this country to cast ballots for their candidates of choice. "Now 50 years later, we are faced with new challenges to the right to vote, but the biggest obstacle we face may be that of voter apathy," Senator West added. "It's time for a new generation to become involved." Students will symbolically reenact the successful March 21, 1965 march from Selma, (Dallas County, Alabama) to the state capitol in Montgomery. It was the third attempt following the first march, now called "Bloody Sunday," two weeks earlier when state and local lawmen attacked peaceful demonstrators. The 54-mile march was successfully completed under a federal court order

CURRY: Obama proved that he is ‘Black Enough’
THE WHOLE TRUTH By George E. Curry
George E. Curry, former editor-in-chief of Emerge magazine, is editor-in-chief of the National Newspaper Publishers Association News Service (NNPA.) He is a keynote speaker, moderator, and media coach. Curry can be reached through his Web site, www.georgecurry.
SELMA, Ala. (NNPA) – Throughout his campaign for the presidency, Barack Obama was dogged by one question: Is he Black enough? The question was repeated so often that after showing up late for an appearance at the 2008 annual convention of the National Association of Black Journalists in Las Vegas, Obama said, “I want to apologize for being late, but you guys keep asking whether I am Black enough.” After a 33-minute speech Saturday in Selma, Ala. commemorating the Selma to Montgomery March and passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, nobody was asking: Is Barack Obama Black enough? President Obama rarely discussed the issue of race in his first six years in office except in reaction to a major racial catastrophe such as the shooting deaths of Trayvon Martin in Florida and Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. or the arrest of Harvard University Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. for breaking into his own home. On Saturday, however, President Obama seemed comfortable discussing race in public, showing he has a deep appreciation for the accomplishments of the Civil Rights Movement and quoting or referencing the Bible, Black spirituals, James Baldwin, Sojourner Truth, Fannie Lou Hamer, Langston Hughes, the Tuskegee Airmen, Jackie Robinson and even his favorite hip-hop artist Jay-Z. While connecting with African Americans, President Obama also underscored the significance of civil rights warriors making America hold true to its creed. “As John [Lewis] noted, there are places and moments in America where this nation’s destiny has been decided. Many are sites of war – Concord and Lexington, Appomattox, Gettysburg. Others are sites that symbolize the daring of America’s character – Independence Hall and Seneca Falls, Kitty Hawk and Cape Canaveral,” the president said. “Selma is such a place. In one afternoon 50 years ago, so much of our turbulent history — the stain of slavery and anguish of civil war; the yoke of segregation and tyranny of Jim Crow; the death of four little girls in Birmingham; and the dream of a Baptist preacher – all that history met on this bridge.” He made his comments with the Edmund Pettus Bridge, where civil rights marchers were attacked by Alabama State Troopers on “Bloody Sunday,” serving as a backdrop. “It was not a clash of armies, but a clash of wills; a contest to determine the true meaning of America,” Obama said. “And because of men and women like John Lewis, Joseph Lowery, Hosea Williams, Amelia Boynton, Diane Nash, Ralph Abernathy, C.T. Vivian, Andrew Young, Fred Shuttlesworth, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and so many others, the idea of a just America and a fair America, an inclusive America, and a generous America – that idea ultimately triumphed.” President Obama also acknowledged the contributions of thousands whose name will never be known to the public yet played a critical role in securing the right
to vote. “As is true across the landscape of American history, we cannot examine this moment in isolation. The march on Selma was part of a broader campaign that spanned generations; the leaders that day part of a long line of heroes. We gather here to celebrate them. We gather here to honor the courage of ordinary Americans willing to endure billy clubs and the chastening rod; tear gas and the trampling hoof; men and women who despite the gush of blood and
efforts that other groups obtained their rights. In fact, often ahead of Blacks. “Because of what they [protesters] did, the doors of opportunity swung open not just for black folks, but for every American,” Obama said. “Women marched through those doors. Latinos marched through those doors. Asian Americans, gay Americans, Americans with disabilities – they all came through those doors. Their endeavors gave the entire South the chance to rise again, not by reasserting the past, but by transcending the past.” The president said in order to be true to those who sacrificed to make America a

splintered bone would stay true to their North Star and keep marching towards justice. “They did as Scripture instructed: ‘Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.’ And in the days to come, they went back again and again. When the trumpet call sounded for more to join, the people came –- black and white, young and old, Christian and Jew, waving the American flag and singing the same anthems full of faith and hope.” President Obama admitted what many, if not most African Americans have long accepted as fact – it was through their
better place, everyone – Black and White – has an obligation to address America’s unfinished business. “First and foremost, we have to recognize that one day’s commemoration, no matter how special, is not enough. If Selma taught us anything, it’s that our work is never done. The American experiment in self-government gives work and purpose to each generation. Selma teaches us, as well, that action requires that we shed our cynicism. For when it comes to the pursuit of justice, we can afford neither complacency nor despair.” He said, “If we want to honor the
5
courage of those who marched that day, then all of us are called to possess their moral imagination. All of us will need to feel as they did the fierce urgency of now. All of us need to recognize as they did that change depends on our actions, on our attitudes, the things we teach our children. And if we make such an effort, no matter how hard it may sometimes seem, laws can be passed, and consciences can be stirred, and consensus can be built.” Obama addressed two hot-button issues – the criminal justice system and voter disenfranchisement efforts – directly. “With such an effort, we can make sure our criminal justice system serves all and not just some. Together, we can raise the level of mutual trust that policing is built on – the idea that police officers are members of the community they risk their lives to protect, and citizens in Ferguson and New York and Cleveland, they just want the same thing young people here marched for 50 years ago – the protection of the law. Together, we can address unfair sentencing and overcrowded prisons, and the stunted circumstances that rob too many boys of the chance to become men, and rob the nation of too many men who could be good dads, and good workers, and good neighbors. With effort, we can roll back poverty and the roadblocks to opportunity. Americans don’t accept a free ride for anybody, nor do we believe in equality of outcomes. But we do expect equal opportunity.” Regarding Republican-led efforts to suppress the Black and Latino vote, Obama said: “Right now, in 2015, 50 years after Selma, there are laws across this country designed to make it harder for people to vote. As we speak, more of such laws are being proposed. Meanwhile, the Voting Rights Act, the culmination of so much blood, so much sweat and tears, the product of so much sacrifice in the face of wanton violence, the Voting Rights Act stands weakened, its future subject to political rancor.” But the problem does not stop there, Obama said. “Of course, our democracy is not the task of Congress alone, or the courts alone, or even the president alone. If every new voter-suppression law was struck down today, we would still have, here in America, one of the lowest voting rates among free peoples. Fifty years ago, registering to vote here in Selma and much of the South meant guessing the number of jellybeans in a jar, the number of bubbles on a bar of soap. It meant risking your dignity, and sometimes, your life. “What’s our excuse today for not voting? How do we so casually discard the right for which so many fought? How do we so fully give away our power, our voice, in shaping America’s future? Why are we pointing to somebody else when we could take the time just to go to the polling places? We give away our power. “ Hip-hop artist Jay-Z’s remix of the song, “My President” has the popular line: “Rosa Parks sat so Martin Luther could walk / Martin Luther walked so Barack Obama could run / Barack Obama ran so all the children could fly.” In his speech, Obama had his own line that showed he was in tune with Jay-Z’s lyrics: “We honor those who walked so we could run. We must run so our children soar.” He added, “And we will not grow weary. For we believe in the power of an awesome God, and we believe in this country’s sacred promise.”

JOHNSON: Ms. Lynch must be confirmed as AG
By Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson U.S. Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson represent the state of Texas’ 30th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives.
Loretta Lynch, the president’s nominee to replace Eric Holder as the U.S. Attorney General, is poised to become the first African American woman to lead the Justice Department. Ms. Lynch is a Harvard-educated lawyer with a reputation as a tough prosecutor. Her impeccable record includes the successful prosecutions of high profile public corruption and civil rights cases, as well as cases in which public officials were physically assaulted. Since the events of 9/11, her office has been responsible for
the conviction of individuals involved in plotting terrorist attacks against this country. Time and time again, Ms. Lynch has demonstrated a commitment to keeping Americans safe. She has performed her job effectively, and without grandstanding. It is time for the Senate to do the same. The U.S. Constitution grants the Senate the power to provide “advice and consent” regarding Presidential appointments. This role of the Senate in confirming presidential appointees is an important one. Historically,
Senators will question a nominee on their record, and press them on important matters to determine if the nominee is qualified to advise the president. The Senate has already determined, on two separate occasions, that Ms. Lynch is a prosecutor with impeccable character and expertise. She has been confirmed by the Senate twice as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York under President Clinton in 2000, and again under President Obama in 2010. During her most recent Senate confirmation hearing Ms. Lynch performed admirably. She endured hours of grueling questions concerning her legal record, her views on immigration, limits to the president’s executive authority, and a host of other legal issues she may encounter as the
nation’s top law enforcement official. Ms. Lynch has the necessary qualifications to be our nation’s next Attorney General. From her stellar record as a federal prosecutor, to her prestigious academic pedigree, her experiences have prepared her to enforce and uphold both the letter and the spirit of the United States Constitution at the highest level. Shamefully, Senate Republicans are holding her confirmation hostage as they continue the battle over the president’s immigration policies. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell indicated that there would not be a confirmation vote for Ms. Lynch until the Senate finishes its debate over an anti-trafficking bill, which has been slowed by a fight over
an abortion provision. Yet again, Senate Republicans are using Ms. Lynch’s confirmation as political leverage for an unrelated matter. This is no way to govern. America has waited far too long for a new attorney general to be confirmed while justice hangs in the balance. The time has come for the Senate to act. There has been no substantive criticism of Ms. Lynch’s qualifications. She has worked to earn the support of a majority of the Senate. In fact, the Senate Judiciary Committee has already voted to approve the nomination. Yet the Republican Leadership has refused to bring her nomination to the floor. It is time for the Senate to provide the “advice and consent” that they are constitutionally empowered to give. .

I must need to create a monologue about these ignorant-assed White boys and how they let their $5 mouths get their million dollar asses entrapped. They got caught reciting what they had been taught. "There will never be a nigger SAE. You can hang him from a tree, but he can never sign with me. There will never be a nigger SAE." As I constantly convey in this column, being called a nigger does not bother me; being treated like a nigger is what angers me. Sadly, there is always ample reason for me to be irascible if not irate. You also shouldn’t be surprised or taken aback that
SAE’s campus mother was caught on YouTube spewing the word nigger in machine gun repetition. Let me clue you in. The “Den Mother” concept did not begin with the Boy Scouts; White mothers of vociferous and unrelenting hatred served as Den Mothers to the KKK and to practicing racists long before the Imperial Wizard made his American debut. Don’t be naïve enough to believe that our nation’s legacy of racial hatred is limited
you check the roots. We share the belief that the institution of racism is more dangerous than the insults that come as a by-product. What shattered me was the fact that there are at least 200,000 SAE alumni that have passed this song down for generations. Arguably 20% of SAE’s alums hold corporate decision-making positions for hiring, promotions and minority participation. I'm not saying it's not okay to get outraged when White folks say in public what White folks say in private all the time. I am saying that those sentiments are more dangerous in practice than in pronunciation. I wanted to discuss this beautiful burgeoning bevy of new Black television shows. But at to the whims of White males. this point all I can say is that the As it was portrayed in Django, “Empire” still ain’t “Blackish” there were willing women who and that’s the “Scandal” that sewed hoods and sheets for their allows them to “Get Away with Murder.” Suffice it to say that spiritual soirees. Unwittingly I found myself I love you Tracee and I hope agreeing with Dallas Morning it doesn’t offend you that I’m News columnist Rudolph Bush. pissed. DAVIS: Letter to the U.S. Attorney General Miles’ Musings By Miles Jaye
Miles Jaye is a musician, singer, author, actor, chef and award-winning writer.
Dear Mr. Attorney General; My name is Miles Jaye Davis, Sr. I am an American citizen, a native of Brooklyn, New York, a proud father and grandfather, a veteran of the United States Air Force and a national recording artist.
I was seven years old at the time of Bloody Sunday and the black & white images of that violent day in 1965 are as troubling as ever. While broadcasts of the recent ceremonious festivities commemorating the 50th
anniversary of Bloody Sunday, aerial views of the Edmund Pettus Bridge, Congressman John Lewis’ testimonials and President Obama’s passionate speech are compelling and cause for reflection, what concerns me most is the ongoing question of equal justice in America. I’d like to know if any of the officers who took part in the Bloody Sunday attacks have been investigated, indicted or otherwise brought to justice for the hate crimes committed that day in Selma. Municipal records as well as news footage should help identify
the officers on duty that day who were involved in the brutal attacks. What troubles me deeply is the thought that as I watch the Selma broadcasts, watching right along with me in the comfort of their homes are some of the retired Alabama Troopers, retired Selma Police Officers and local officials who either had a direct hand in the violence of that day or in covering up the actions of those who did. The thought that they and their families watch the festivities with impunity, secure in the knowledge that they are in no danger of
prosecution for their despicable criminal acts is outrageous. That they may be enjoying state pensions and health benefits is absolutely unconscionable as we push harder and farther toward justice in America. I would like to know if a Special Prosecutor can be assigned to investigate the events of that day in spite of the 50 years that have lapsed. Only then can the contempt and bitterness that I feel as I’m reminded of that tragic day in American history begin to dissipate. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Nation Building at Paul Quinn under Sorrell On Friday, November 7, 2008 As attorney and businessman Michael J. Sorrell was installed as the 34th president of Dallas’ Paul Quinn College and hundreds of alumni, students, faculty, staff, family members and supporters were in attendance to share in this era of “change.” Elected officials, including then-Mayor Tom Leppert and Sen. Royce West (D-Dallas) were among the many speakers who extolled the virtues of Mr. Sorrell and encouraged citizens to join in supporting the oldest historically black college west of the Mississippi. “He has brought passion and love,” said Mr. Leppert. “He brings a fresh perspective and renewed commitment. He has revamped admissions policy, overhauled a number of department and developed partnerships. He sees the possibilities and I am proud of what he has accomplished thus far.” Sen. West, who presented a proclamation to the president, urged financial support of the Paul Quinn and pointed out that state support has increased to $650,000 annually. “Surely right in the city of Dallas we can match what they give and do better,” said Mr. West, whose message was echoed from several other speakers as they pledged their support.
Mr. Sorrell praised a rich heritage and stressed the importance of insuring Paul Quinn’s future and encouraged support of
the oldest historically black college west of the Mississippi. Calling himself an activist, instead of a “traditional academician,” he said he learned about the importance and beauty of historically black colleges, from his mother and grandmother, both graduates of HBCUs. “I learned to love this college long before I came here,” he said, as he discussed the need for black colleges and the demise of Bishop College. “As I assume the presidency, I know what I am facing. We
can and we must do better.” And while the school has a laundry list of needs, Paul Quinn’s 34th president says that does not mean the school will accept anything. “This year’s freshman class has the highest GPA in the history of the school,” he said. “We can and must to better. We will not beg for your sympathy. While we do need students we need the right student. This is a different place and we need you to become invested in our students’ lives.” Under his leadership Paul Quinn College has received numerous accolades: Third Best HBCU Accomplishment of 2014 (Huffington Post) 2013 Finalist for the President’s National Community Service |Higher Education Honor Roll (Corporation for National & Community Service)

Day 1 Saturday Selma Presidential Address When I first heard the news that I would have the opportunity to go to Selma, Alabama for the 50th anniversary of the Selma march, I knew it would be an awesome opportunity. I packed my bags, met up with radio personality Dareia Tolbert and drove nine hours to the place where my ancestors fought, bled and died to help ensure the freedom I now enjoy. Once we arrived we checked into the Holiday Inn Express in Selma around 5am. I immediately met a family from Birmingham, brought in to provide their special pound cakes to the Jubilee’s dignitaries and celebrities. After taking a quick nap, then showering, we were on our way to hear President Obama deliver a compelling speech. He was scheduled to land at 11am on Air Force One, and I was going to cover his arrival but I was afraid I would miss the speech on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Traffic as you can imagine was terrible, most people got out of their cars and walked 30 minutes or more to the site of the speech. Tens of Thousands of people were there. Young, and old crowding around just to hear from the President and other dignitaries. The opportunity to listen to President Obama was surreal! But it wasn't an easy task. Blocked roads, heavy traffic, tight security and tens of thousands of people made it a battle just to get to the media area near the President. Fortunately, I was blessed to follow a mentor and one of the heads of Pubic Relations through the tight crowds to get to the media area. Note to self: be earlier! Once inside, they had several staging areas for the media. Most Presidential events will put the media in one row to park their news vehicles. In this case it was not the case, they beefed it up for security. They also were very tight on making sure the Presidents were safe. We were able to make our way to the media area where we were credentialed to take pictures and record the speech. Georgia Congressman and Civil Rights Activist John Lewis gave a rousing speech. After all, he was one of the foot soldiers who took a beating at the bridge 50 years ago. He said he would've never imagined being there that day, delivering a speech as a member of congress! President George W. Bush and Former First Lady Barbara were on hand to show their support. First Lady Michelle looked fabulous as always, and sat proudly on the stage. The Presidential speech was uplifting and many people were able to feel the real emotion in his voice as he talked about equality and recognized that he was standing there, 50 years after Bloody Sunday as a Black President. I saw a lot of celebrities, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Tom Joyner, Victoria Rowell and others were also there. I must admit the weather was perfect, and pretty warm. Some people even
passed out from dehydration. Georgia Representative Calvin Smyre (who I've reported on since I was an intern in 2002!) was glad to see me. I also met the mother of slain unarmed Ferguson teen Michael Brown. During Mister Obama's speech there was a drumming sound and I realized that there were a few protesters chanting Black Lives Matter. I recognized one of the girls as being with a group traveling from Ferguson. It quickly was squashed, after one of the members had a medical emergency and was taken out by police for medical help. It was unknown why, or what but interesting that they chose that time to interrupt the Presidents speech. President Obama continued his speech, and eventually addressed the senseless deaths of unarmed Black Men. Once the President spoke, he discussed the importance of unity, continuing the strength and hope of those who were there on Bloody Sunday and most importantly working together to create a peaceful, unified Country. The speech was amazing. There was also a parade and festival with vendors and amazing soul food, food trucks. The cell service was extremely slow and I couldn't post any pictures of videos to social media during the day and it was extremely hard at night.
Day 2 Bloody Sunday Anniversary March Close your eyes and imagine the biggest group of people you can imagine, now imagine them standing side by side for miles filling the streets and town of Selma. That's what the streets of Selma looked like as preparation for the Anniversary of the Bloody Sunday march took place. People arrived early for the pre-march rally and stood for hours in the hot sun to march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Once the march began, everyone walked slowly. Some chanting, some singing spirituals and others quietly absorbing the moment. It was amazing, I literally cried...I really broke down and let a few tears fall down...I feel like it was a historical moment that everyone should experience. How my ancestors were able to walk so far with dress shoes, knowing that their lives were at risk, makes me proud to be an African-American. It takes a lot of work and a lot of strength to risk your life. After we walked in solidarity, across the bridge we ended at the stage where the BET & Centric Networks held the March Concert. I really enjoyed the show! Every possible celebrity was there. There were so many people on the bridge, at one point there were reports that the bridge was closed because of so many people walking the bridge. The great part, is that the entertainers weren't paid to perform and did it because they wanted to contribute to the movement. Each performer sang one or two songs and the crowd went wild! I was blessed to have full access and while backstage I snapped a few photos and interviews for this blog. I talked to Ruben Studdard who told me the performances were just a soundtrack to the movement. Operating on a Tight Budget Dear Alma, My husband was laid off and I’m only working part time, so we’re having a hard time paying our bills and making ends meet. We hardly have enough money to pay the rent, and every day we worry about how we can make it. When my grandmother died, she left me some of her valuables – a beautiful ornate mirror, fine china and some jewelry. My husband told me to sell some of the jewelry so that we could get some money. I don’t want to do that, but I know we need to pay our bills. What do you think? Name withheld Awww, sweetie, I’m sorry. I know this is a difficult time for you and your husband. You didn’t mention any kids, so I assume it’s just the two of you. I think you guys should exhaust all of your resources and make selling your grandmother’s heirlooms the very last (about to be evicted) resort. Once it’s gone, you can’t get it back. The decision to sell something so precious should be your individual decision, not a joint one. She was your grandmother, so you have a ton of love invested in her memory. It’s really not his place to suggest you cut those ties that bind. I’m sure, given the right amount of thought and sacrifice, you two can come up with other options. I’d suggest, if you haven’t already, putting yourselves on a super-duper strict budget. I’m talking about the oatmeal, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, ramen noodles every night budget! Vegetables will become a luxury and replace your meat options. You should also take a look at what I call your “side bills” and see what you can live without. Side bills are things like cable, wi-fi, cell phones and gym memberships. Cut back on gas, which can be expensive. Try walking places or taking the bus. Maybe you can work full-time until your husband finds a job. Keep your head up. Things will get better; it won’t be like this forever. Alma
THANKS
SELMA!

They entered the room in a traditional strut. Clad in white, 60 women were presented as charter members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated’s newest graduate chapter, Omega Alpha Omega, planting its ivy in one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. Frisco, Texas is now officially seeing pink and green. The chartering luncheon on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the Westin Stonebriar Hotel was open to the public. The room was packed as attendees got an overview of what the Pink Tea Rose Sisters of Service interest group have been up to and a glimpse of service to all mankind to come from Omega Alpha Omega. “Entry into AKA is a gateway to service, not a stepping stone to status,” 21st South Central Regional Director Shirley R. KDFW Fox 4’s Latoya Silmon, also a member of AKA, served as Mistress of Ceremony and kept the event flowing and timely. Speaking of time, Tuere Williams who serves as the chapter’s 1st Vice President placed strong emphasis on the time they learned of their approval. “February 16, 2015 at 9:22 PM,” she joyfully stated. Williams also shared the mantra for the group, which they’ve been masterfully doing all along, as pointed out by several speakers. “Lead big, serve big, love big,” Williams said. Drop and Give Me 20 Spiritually Speaking There is a perspective prevalent in our faith that our suffering is an integral part of God’s plan to ready us for the struggle of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. Depending on your point of view you might think that to be a fact of faith. I just don’t believe it’s always true. However, I do believe suffering in some ways is a prerequisite for strengthening one’s spiritual muscle. Like Jesus in the desert, you do have to get ready for what’s in store for you traveling down God’s path. For me it’s always been hard to respect the opinion of someone who has led the so called “charmed life” or, someone who was born with the proverbial silver spoon in a cavity free mouth. It’s hard, if not impossible (for me), to listen to someone talk with certainty about things they’ve never seen or places they’ve never been. My belief is that God teaches in a manner few of us will ever truly understand. I believe that when He chooses you, when it’s your time, He has a unique way of communicating who’s really in charge. And, if the truth be told, only He is. Experience has taught me that when God is talking to you, eventually you come to know it. Your recognition of this can come with a price, if you get my meaning. Take notes on this. “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but (rather) painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:11. As far as I’m concerned, we’re all in training, believe it or not, to fight in God’s war. Whether being forged in a fiery furnace or stuck in a tailspin of perceived despair and hopelessness, each one of us is being battle tested in anticipation that one day, we will be called to arms. This struggle, these experiences, they bring about wisdom; a spiritual wisdom from a spiritual perspective that I believe
we are commanded to share. It’s called testimony! Otherwise, God keeps you in a perpetual classroom where life constantly gives you a new place to go to the bathroom. You haven’t learned anything, so life keeps kicking your…well, you get the picture. When you finally realize the one trying to tell you something is God, then a wondrous thing begins to happen. You listen more intently and learn more eagerly. Like the child who discovers walking leads to the joy of running, or the baby who discovers his own hand, the possibilities seem endless. The mind says ‘tell me more.’ The spirit says, ‘thank you Jesus.’ At that very moment, it my belief that God let’s us know we’re able to withstand, overcome, rise above and win the battle of carrying the message of salvation. Christ is savior. At that moment, we also move from being in the classroom to being on the battlefield where Satan keeps score. You remember those days back in school when you actually studied and were prepared for the test? Confidence oozed from you. When God has been the lesson planner, the study partner, the instructor, it doesn’t matter how much Satan wants it to be a Net Flix Night. “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.” James 1:12. Our job then is to recognize and represent; recognize the hell we think we’re going through has heaven as its reward. Your struggles are not without purpose. The most important message of the day is to understand who (Jesus) has suffered the most and why. “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.” Luke 12:32. Remember it’s already yours. May God bless and keep you always.

Expected to become the numerical majority by 2044, 21 of the top 25 most-populated counties in the United States are already more than 50% multicultural. Knowing the cultural appeal of a brand is critical to marketers, as multicultural populations can vary widely even within metro areas. The combination of majority multicultural geographies and high levels of interethnic proximity magnify the need for ethnic and cross-cultural marketing.

NEW YORK, -- With multicultural consumer spending in the United States today at $3.4 trillion, this "super consumer" group has tremendous impact on U.S. mainstream culture, according to a Nielsen report released. The report, The Multicultural Edge: Rising Super Consumers, identifies multicultural consumers as the most dynamic and fasting growing segment of the U.S. consumer economy. -Services!60 130-0+ 6:30 Consumers report builds on Nielsen's "The Multicultural Sun. The report identifies multicultural Super Consumers, which refer to the top 10% of households who drive at least 30% of sales, 40% of growth and 50% of profits of any consumer product category. The report suggests that by understanding the cultural essence that drives multicultural super consumer behavior today, marketers and advertisers can better understand future market trends.

(214) 941-0110 Multicultural Super Consumers Buying Habits Multicultural consumers comprise a disproportionate share of many categories, such as dairy, baby food and diapers, laundry supplies and detergents, school supplies, and other family goods. Of 126 grocery store categories reviewed, 45 categories (36%) over-index in total rate of spending for all multicultural consumers compared to non-multiculturals. These attitudes and behaviors demonstrate cultural and behavioral traits unique to the various ethnicities. The findings show Asian Americans are more likely to eat organic foods (29%). Cultural identity is very important to African- Americans (78%) and Hispanics (71%), and social causes are particularly meaningful to Hispanics (43%). Multicultural Super Consumers can heavily influence nonmulticultural consumers in Super Geo areas—geographies with a higher concentration of Super Consumers. Proximity to other cultures and the sharing of cultural influences, attitudes, and behaviors in Super Geo clusters magnifies the multicultural opportunity. Despite the cultural sharing taking place in the U.S. today, it is critical to understand the nuances and preferences of each individual consumer.
Culturally Driven Behaviors Multicultural consumers take on an ambicultural identity—the ability and willingness to function competently in two cultures, which allows many multicultural consumers to simultaneously maintain their cultural heritage and see themselves as equally American. Multicultural consumers gravitate to brands, products, and activities that reinforce their cultural roots. And these behaviors are affecting the purchase behavior of non-multicultural consumers, too. For example, while multicultural consumers represent 53% of hot sauce Super Consumers, the category has grown beyond it, becoming a mainstream condiment. Just as soul food, sushi, tacos, pizza and other once-ethnic foods have become as ubiquitous as apple pie and hot dogs, the traditions, attitudes and shopping behaviors of multiculturals are expanding the multicultural market opportunity. These multicultural Super Consumer categories have already experienced the future where many categories are likely to follow. Understanding how purchase behaviors are driven by multicultural consumer values, lifestyles, tastes and preferences is the key to total market growth.

Evaluating President Obama’s First 100 Days Political analysts, both mainstream and Black news media and intellectuals around the country have given their grade evaluation on President Barack Obama’s first 100 days in office, marked on April 30. Here’s how several people from the local front graded the new president.

“I am deeply impressed with the progress that President Barack Obama has made during the first 100 days of his administration. Already we are seeing evidence of the administration’s plan to dig our country out of recession and develop long-term, sustainable prosperity. President Obama has made two trips abroad, proving to us and to the world that he intends to repair our frayed alliances and restore our international leadership. Finally, the Obama administration’s code of ethics has brought much-needed transparency and accountability to the White House. President Obama is delivering on the change that he promised.

The administration has proposed trillions of dollars in new spending, which will result in higher taxes on Americans, while sharply raising our indebtedness to foreign creditors. On the national security front, I am very concerned about the President’s intention to close Guantanamo without a workable plan to relocate detainees. It is my sincere hope that, moving forward, the administration will adopt the productive, responsible approach to our nation’s challenges that Americans deserve.â€? It is important to remember that the propositions are to amend the Dallas City Charter which, among other things, gives the MISSpower RAY to acquire city the Going Deep in Roots property fortheany public purpose. NAMI and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. announce partnership for broader Mental Health Education, Awareness, and support nationwide Arlington, Va.—The National Alliance on Mental Illness and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.® have launched a new partnership to expand mental health education, awareness, and support activities on the campuses of colleges and universities and in local communities. The partnership will enable NAMI, the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization, and AKA, the nation's oldest sorority founded by African American college-trained women, to prepare new volunteer leaders for the future and reach broader constituencies as part of a growing movement to address unmet mental health needs. “Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is proud to stand with NAMI in the fight for mental health and wellness,” said Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson, International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. “Our members will work to bring attention to mental illness among diverse populations with historically low utilization of mental health services.” “NAMI and AKA will stand together to provide help and hope,” said NAMI Executive Director Mary Giliberti. “We are thrilled to be working with one of the nation’s most distinguished service organizations to help individuals and families affected by mental health conditions. Our common mission will include eliminating fear and discrimination that too often discourage people from seeking help when they need it.” The first year of the partnership will include: · Participation in each organization’s national conventions: The NAMI National Convention is scheduled for July 4-8 in San Francisco. The AKA Leadership Seminar will be held in Chicago, July 16-19. · With NAMI’s support, AKA will organize “Launching 1908 Dance Moves for NAMI,” a community awareness event in downtown Chicago on July 16.
· Local NAMI Affiliates and AKA chapters across the country will come together to sponsor mental health awareness events, such as AKA/NAMI Awareness Day on April 11 and Mental Illness Awareness Week, October 4-10. · National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month in July will commemorate a special connection between the two organizations. Congress established the month in 2008 in honor of the late African American novelist, Bebe Moore Campbell, who was both a NAMI member and an AKA honorary member. · AKA chapters will work with NAMI on Campus clubs at universities and colleges around the country to advance education and support around mental health. NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization with approximately 1000 state organizations and local affiliates, dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. For more information, see www.nami. org. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® (AKA) is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African-American college-educated women.
