He Is Not A Suspect!

#HeIsNotASuspect is a counter-stereotyping campaign designed to challenge negative images of young African American men. I Messenger is joining Essence Magazine in inviting our readers to post on Instagram and Facebook photos of themselves and a young Black man they care about—a son, brother, nephew, cousin, neighbor or grandson—with a few words explaining why he’s so much more than a stereotype, using the hashtag #HeIsNotASuspect. This is Andre Daron Smith. A graduate of David W. Carter High School, he also attended St. Philip’s School and Community Center, T.L. Marsalis Elementary, Atwell Junior High School. Active in

the R.O.T.C. and Pathfinders; Andre was a member of St. Luke Community United Methodist Church. Andre is stationed in Japan with his wife, Emma, and three children. Even before he donned a uniform, Andre was known as respectful, loving, considerate, intelligent and a true gentleman. He was never, nor ever has he been a suspect and it is my prayer that he never runs into anyone who subjects him to the abuses that many before him have suffered through. I know there are many others who feel the same way. They don’t want their children profiled and mistreated because of the color of their skin. Cheryl Smith
