Final Rites held for former Councilman Leo Chaney Jr. The Honorable Leo Chaney, Jr. died on Monday, August 12, 2013 after an electrical fire at his home. His family members say the cause of death was smoke inhalation. Councilman Chaney served on the Dallas City Council 1999 to 2007 representing District 7. A member of James Madison High School, he attended Howard University as an undergraduate and for law school. For more than two decades he worked as a community relations specialist for the Dallas Independent School District. A proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Councilman Chaney will lie in state at the Hall of State at Fair Park in Dallas, on Friday from 12 Noon to 7pm.
The Wake is from 6 to 7pm.@ the Hall of State in Fair Park. The Funeral will be at True Lee Baptist Church, 3907 Bertrand St. in South Dallas at 11:00 am on Saturday. August 17. Because the sanctuary only seats 300, persons wishing to show their respects are urged to arrive early or consider attending the wake. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; father, Leo V. Chaney of Dallas; two brothers, the Rev. Lowell Chaney Sr. and Terrence K. Chaney, both of Dallas; two sisters, Sheria E. Chaney Overton and Shelia B. ChaneyBellfield, both of Dallas; four sons, Leo Chaney III, Alexander Chaney, Paul Chaney and LeDarrin Williams Chaney, all of Dallas; and four grandchildren.
Academy Award Winner Jennifer Hudson to appear at International Faith and Family Film Festival Other Notable Films Round Out Plethora of Inspiring, Thoughtprovoking Screenings at MegaFest Jennifer Hudson, Academy award winner and star of Bishop T.D. Jakes' new film, "Winnie Mandela," is slated to appear at the International Faith and Family Film Festival in Dallas, Aug. 2931, 2013, as part of Bishop Jakes' MegaFest. The inaugural run of the film festival will feature a wide variety of films tackling tough issues such as identity, family and poverty. "What is exciting about the International Faith and Family Film Festival is not only the number of films we have that tackle and address difficult issues, but the quality of the films is outstanding," said Bishop Jakes.
"I'm thrilled to have these films as part of our discussions."
