Our Story
people i’ve loved : : : 2015
People I’ve Loved is a few individuals longing for connection / a small printmaking workshop based out of Oakland, California. Our focus is on facilitating relationships, complex conversations and hope for the future. We specialize in hand-printed & assembled objects, and work out of an Oakland farmhouse with a lemon tree. People I’ve Loved is currently a team made up of practicing artists Carissa Potter Carlson, Heather Van Winckle and lots of lovely nice people. Carissa and Heather met while earning their masters in fine arts at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2008. They bonded on a bus ride one day over the their shared interest in human behavior. People I’ve Loved strives to make art that is rich with aesthetic sensibilities and conceptual development, but accessible to people outside of the gallery’s confines. The goal of People I’ve Loved is to make the things we want to have, give to our loved ones, or look at everyday at a price point that keeps our work affordable for all.

About the Company Mission People I’ve Loved’s works (or pressing issues) intend to facilitate the communication between real, tactile people. We are “in search of the miraculous” yet tragic definition of what it means to exist, in this time and space. And feel that we should make time to share it .
Products Starting with a small line of greeting cards, People I’ve Loved has grown to develop cards for all seasons and the everyday, quirky and unique art prints, and housewares based on the type of stuff we’d like to have in our homes. We simply love making things, and most of the production is done in house, by Carissa or Heather, or some combination of the two.
Custom Work We also do custom design and letterpress printing for save the dates, wedding invitations, shower invitations of all sorts, business cards, personal stationery and corporate projects such as logo design and custom product development. We love working on unique concepts and relish the opportunity to dream up new ideas for one-of-a-kind designs. 2

Who We Are Carissa Potter Carlson, Founder Carissa founded People I’ve Loved with the goal of creating art that could be both conceptually compelling, and affordable for the everyday collector. She earned an MFA in Printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2010, is a cofounder of Colpa Press, and is an active member of the Bay Area arts community.
Heather Van Winckle, Director of Operations As People I’ve Loved started to grow and the work load was too much for one woman alone, Heather was brought in to fill in the gaps, and she and Carissa quickly developed a colllaborative practice to push People I’ve Loved in a positive direction. Heather is a practicing artist as well, having met Carissa during their graduate studies at SFAI.

Upcoming and Recent Events Carissa and Heather are both exhibiting visual artists with their own personal practices, but that work often overlaps with the business of People I’ve Loved, and finding clarity between the two distinct pursuits can sometimes be challenging.
