From the Deck of Coach Nick Pepperdine Swimming & Diving supporters: With the team being reinstated, we are off to a fresh start. This year promises to be more innovative and connected to the University. We are planning more home meets and events and new practice techniques. We will be depending on our returning swimmers and divers led by our All-PCSC Conference finalists - Madison Krall, Kayleen Hicks, Shannon Adkins, Tiffany Martz, Leslie Wade, Klaire Korver Kristen Scribner, Sarah Burris and Andrea Kacynski - to re-establish the program and set the foundation for coming years. Our main goal will be, as it has always been, individual improvement and accomplishment. Sincerely, Coach Nick Rodionoff

High School Hall of Fame • Fred A. Cady Memorial Coaches Award • Two-time PCSC Coach of the Year PEPPERDINE HIGHLIGHTS • 10 school record holders through 21 events • 71 of Pepperdine’s 100 all-time fastest marks • Four NCAA qualifiers in diving • Three-time NCAA “B” qualifier Ali McLeod • Ten top-five finishes at the PCSC meet in the last 11 seasons • School-record-tying second-place finish at the 2008 PCSC Championships Two-time PCSC Coach of the Year Nick Rodionoff is entering his 12th season at the helm of the Pepperdine swimming and diving program in 2011-12. Under his leadership, he has elevated the Waves to a highly competitive level over the past decade. His affiliation with the Pepperdine program, which spans four decades, runs parallel with the success of divers and swimmers he has coached on the high school and college levels. Since taking over as head coach for the 2000-01 season, Rodionoff has guided the Waves to ten top-five finishes at the Pacific Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference Championships. In 2008, Pepperdine had its best-ever finish under Rodionoff and tied the best finish in school history with a second-place result. The Waves have finished in third place five times under Rodionoff, including 2002 and 2009, when he was named PCSC Coach of the Year.

Rodionoff has guided a total of four women to eight conference titles and three to five NCAA Champioship berths. In 2009, senior and PCSC Diver of the Year Amanda Pond won the 3-meter diving event and placed second in the 1-meter competition to teammate Tiffany Martz. Martz added a 3-meter title in 2010 and her second 1-meter crown in 2011. Following her championship run in 2011, she was named the PCSC Div. I Diver of the Year. Martz was Rodionoff’s third conference Diver of the Year honoree, joining Pond and Barker who won the prestigious title in 2009 and 2002, respectively. In 2008, senior Ali McLeod was named the meet’s Division I Swimmer of the Year after winning the 100 fly and achieving an NCAA qualifying “B” time. In 2011, Kayleen Hicks earned the same recognition after scoring in seven events at the PCSC Championships and earning All-Conference status in six. Rodionoff’s swimmers have broken 10 school records in 21 possible events and have recorded 71 of Pepperdine’s all-time fastest marks. Rodionoff first came onto the Pepperdine scene in 1974 to coach the men’s diving team and in 1987 he established the women’s program, which went undefeated for five years. Prior to coming to Malibu, Rodionoff served as the diving coach to nearby UCLA from 1964-74. At the high school level, Rodionoff was recognized as one of the top coaches across the country after serving 33 years as the head boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving coach at Birmingham High School, located in Van Nuys, Calif. Rodionoff’s prep resume boasts 31 league championships, a record of 10 Los Angeles

City Section boys’ championships and four Los Angeles City girls’ championships. His teams compiled an astonishing dual meet record of 324-3 (.991). Rodionoff coached 36 high school AllAmericans before retiring in February 1997 and two years later the new pool at Birmingham High School was named in his honor. In addition to being named to the International Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame in 1974, Rodionoff was inducted into the National High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 2004. He is one of only two swimming coaches to have received the honor. Rodionoff is the only coach in the United States to have coached national champions in both swimming and diving and also guided the women’s national relay team to a 200 freestyle record. A top choice for an Olympic coach, Rodionoff was honored in 1999 as the recipient of the Fred A. Cady Memorial Coaches Award. The award is presented biannually to coaches who have dedicated 25 or more years to diving, while developing outstanding talent in the U.S. National Diving program and international competition, including the Olympic Games. Rodionoff also taught for the Los Angeles Unified School District for 39 years. A 1957 graduate of Occidental College, Rodionoff was a three-year standout who participated in diving, football and track and field. He captured the conference diving title in his senior year of competition. His wife, Carrie, serves as the team’s administrative assistant.
