The Eratosthenes Festivity has become an annual tradition that takes place every year on 21 June at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and 20 and 21 June at the city of Aswan. It is designed for preparatory school students, and includes a series of activities that revolve around the methodology Eratosthenes used in measuring the Earth’s circumference 2000 years ago.
On June solstice, the sun casts no shadow on the Cancer Tropic.
Ancient well on the Elephantine Island This observation was the reference in Eratosthenes calculation of the circumference of the Earth
Measurements were realized in 5 governorates in EGYPT on June 21th
