Artist-In-Schools Heatley Secondary College with Alison McDonald
This exhibition forms part of the Artist-In-Schools program, which connects the Townsville region’s high school students with local artists and is delivered as part of the Galleries’ Creative Classrooms initiative. The Artist-In-Schools program is delivered by Townsville City Council Galleries and engages local artists to work within Townsville schools to foster and promote artistic development. During Term 4 2016, year 11 and 12 students from Heatley Secondary College focused on exploring the concept of consumerism and studied artists who work with found objects to communicate a message about our disposable society. Students designed and constructed wearable art pieces based upon their research to communicate their own message about consumerism. Students worked one-on-one with local environmental artist, Alison McDonald, in order to transform found and up cycled materials into pieces of wearable art. This exhibition is on display from 11 March – 3 April 2017 in The Galleria, Riverway Arts Centre. For further information about this program please ask at Pinnacles Gallery reception desk.
