Hello! Thanks for your interest in ‘In The Club’ and ‘The Tuesday Club’. Unfortunately, our office is now closed for the summer. Please leave a message after the tone and we’ll get back to you on our return in September. If your enquiry is urgent, please write to info@thisisthetuesdayclub.co.uk. If you’ve found a stray Beautiful Wolfe, please look on his collar as there’s a small address tag attached and call the number on it. A nice lady will then come and collect him. Mystery Girls - Ash in Drag Son of playwright Kenneth Horne, Robert Farrar, was the brainchild behind this single, which back in 1983 really took the attention of a young AVBD. Not long after Boy George had bamboozled Top of The Pops’ with his gender bending first TV appearance, Farrer took the idea and ran with it. According to Wikki - Wearing women’s make-up with men’s clothing that was “glammed up to the point of surreality”, the band performed “Ash In Drag”, on The Old Grey Whistle Test. However, the single flopped and in 1986, “traumatised” by A&M’s management, Farrar turned his attentions to a writing career. The Mystery Girls did not formally disband until 1991. http://youtu.be/MwKFent4HLo

Now the name of book as well as track four of his ground breaking Tubeway Army Album - Replicas. It’s hard to imagine early 80’s pop without his influence but AVBD’s fave story about Gary Numan’s sound is that it all came about by accident. So the legend goes they were in a recording studio - a traditional rock act, until one of the band spotted a Moog synthesiser in the corner that someone had left behind from a previous session and the rest is hystery! This one goes out to Rogerio Marauder. The arch Numanoid.
Soft Cell - Tainted Love (Dakeyne Remix) Soft Cell’s cover of the Northern Soul Classic by Marc Bolan’s future girlfriend Gloria Jones. Much like the impact of Boy George and The Mystery Girls, Marc Almonds’ first androgynous appearance on Top of The Pops with Tainted Love blew AVBD away. Tainted Love became a school anthem and the first dance that the shy and awkward could easily look cool at. This is the remix by Dakeyne that appeared on the fabulous Heat The Remixes in 2008. The Vid here is from TOTP 1981. Halcyon days!

Tame Impala - Alter Ego Tame Impala is the psychedelic rock project of Kevin Parker from Perth, Australia signed to Modular Recordings. The band came to prominence in 2010 with the release of their debut album Innerspeaker, and received
critical acclaim for their 2012 album Lonerism. Their name refers to the impala, a medium sized antelope! - Thanks Wiki. AVBD saw them supporting The Arctic Monkeys at their recent Finsbury Park Shows http://youtu.be/iErjaKTX_3w Cesarians - Dethstar This track comes from their self-titled 2009 album. First witnessed by AVBD as support to Adam Ant at one of his comeback shows at The Scala in 2011. Resembling a cross between Richard III and John Lydon lead singer Charlie Finke totally mesmerised a polarised and stunned crowd. Flippin hard to find a video that didn’t involve blood and child birth on first inspection of YT, so we just went with any track. This ain’t rock’n’roll this is off the radar!

In this, our latest In the Club feature, we choose our album or band or single of the month. It can be brand new, very old, unsigned local talent that should be getting more exposure, or a triple platinum selling masterpiece that should have been...This month we recommend to you the exciting and lost talents of Das Psycho Rangers, sometime honchos of our main recording studio genius Steve Honest. It’s sadly quite hard to find too much info on the net about these sonic anarchists, so we decided to sum them up with this ace live video from the legendary Tube with the track “Love Terminator” and this review... Pop Reviews : Das Psycho Rangers Open Up a Mixed Bag March 17, 1989|JANISS GARZA: Das Psycho Rangers’ blend of hard rock and dance-oriented pop stirred things up in New York recently when the English band performed several gigs in an attempt to generate record label interest. The group’s trying to impress L.A., and while its show at FM Station on Wednesday hinted at the reasons for the excitement, the band isn’t as big as its buzz. The key to the quintet is its punchy, freewheeling feel and the light sarcasm of its lyrics. Lines like “Viva la dudes” and “the beat’s got rhythm / and the rhythm’s got soul” poke mild fun at rock ‘n’ roll clichés. The music carries on in the same vein. The neo-metal guitar trappings and the danceable beat align themselves with neither the disco nor the arena, but the irony of the combination could make the group it in both areas. And for your viewing pleasure...

A ‘DAVE’ in the life
By Jordan Thomas
Unfortunately, our drummer was more interested in Goth Metal; the interest levels waned (predictably) and the inevitable happened. Luckily, The Tuesday Club happened at the same time - so I was never without a band!
My
I’m not a lead guitarist - so The Tuesday Club suits me just fine, as everyone has a role to play that’s equal. (It’s like being part of a gang - as we’re all friends outside of the band too). I have no knowledge of music theory, so there’s no concious thought process behind what I play. I learn from my mistakes and from trial and error. I do however, like being in a band with such a diverse range of musical influences. I never thought I’d end up playing a guitar part on a jazz/swing style song... but I like getting pushed out of my comfort zone.
first guitar experience... was playing guitar in my dad’s car... on the seat belt. I was playing along to ‘Queen Greatest Hits 2’. (It’s not why I have a seat belt guitar strap by the way). My first proper experience was when my Uncle started giving me guitar lessons I’ve really started adding to my effects range lately. every weekend on his ‘66 Hofner Verithin (hence the New material always lets me find new ways tinker and it’s noticeable that the new recordings are more reason why I’ve just bought a ‘62 Verithin). adventurous (but not, thankfully, an atonal mess!). I I stuck with the guitar because the music I listened to quite like the idea of having quite a few pedals in my was mostly guitars and also, I could never sing. When range as you never know what you might need for the I was 15, I acquired my first proper guitar . It was a next set of recordings - we might even go folk! (Nick Japanese Stratocaster. I still play that old Strat, having Stephenson, watch out... Ed). just used it on the latest batch of recordings. As to guitars, the aforementioned Verithin will be staying However, it was AVDB’s fault that I ended up in bands. within the confines of ‘studioland’ (some might say, I went to see The Scratch and was hooked. AVDB house-cat). It’s 52 years old and shouldn’t have to suffer suggested that I form a band to play a charity gig he the abuse of gigging. I definitely play differently when was putting on - that band was Monkey Code, which I use it - which is a good thing. It adds another colour became Cobra-Kai, which then became ‘We Are on my pallet, so to speak. I’ll be sticking with the heavy White Worm’ ...because when AVDB was doing lump (that feels light) that is the Explorer and my faithful the poster for a subsequent gig featuring us, we were old Strat for live work, until anything else comes along! asked to provide a logo. We sent in a sketch of what we thought was spitting cobra... which ended up looking I genuinely love what we do as a band and I’m very like a pathetic white worm... The name, despite our proud of what we record. A lot of people in bands don’t listen to their own band; I do... but not through ego. I’m protestations, stuck! genuinely a Tuesday Club fan!
