The Ultimate Wedding Planning Checklist EDITORIAL PHOTOS EDITORIAL CONSULTANT GRAPHIC DESIGNER
Studio 220 Photography Ashley Ebert The Simply Elegant Group Kristina Brown Kristinadesignz 9
12-18 Months Before O Start a wedding folder or binder. Begin leafing through bridal, lifestyle, fashion, gardening, design, and food magazines for inspiration. O Work out your budget. Determine how much you have to spend, based on your families’ contributions and your own. O Pick your wedding party. As soon as you’re engaged, people will start wondering who’s in the wedding party. O Start the guest list. Make a head count database to use throughout your planning process, with columns for contact info, RSVPs, gifts, and any other relevant information. (Want to keep costs low? It may be brutal, but the best way to do it is to reduce your guest list.) O Hire a planner, if desired. A planner will have relationships with, and insights about vendors. Even if you are only going to be using them for day-of coordination services it is still a great idea to hire them at the beginning of the planning process. O Reserve your date and venues. Decide whether to have separate locations for the ceremony and the reception, factoring in travel time between the two places. O Book your officiant. O Research photographers, bands, florists, and caterers. Keep their contact information in your binder. O Throw an engagement party, if you wish. But remember that your invitees should be on your wedding guest list as well.
10
8-12 Months Before O Hire the photographer and the videographer. No need to talk specifics yet, but be sure that the people you hire are open to doing the shots that you want. O Book the entertainment. Attend gigs of potential acts to see how they perform in front of audiences, then reserve your favorite. O Meet caterers. If your wedding venue doesn’t offer its own catering service, look for one now and hire the service. O Purchase a dress. You’ll need to schedule time for at least three fittings. Veil shopping can be postponed for another two to three months. O Reserve a block of hotel rooms for out-of-town guests. Pick three hotels at different price points close to the reception venue. It’s great to try to get one of the room rates to sit right around $100 if possible. O Start a gift registry with a minimum of three retailers. O Launch a wedding website. Create your personal page through a free provider such as PerfectWeddingGuide.com. Note the date of the wedding, travel information, and accommodations. Then send the link to invitees. O Visit your local men’s formal wear stores and choose the grooms’ and groomsmen’s’ attire.
11
6-7 Months Before O Select and purchase invitations. Hire a calligrapher, if desired. Addressing cards is time consuming, so you need to budget accordingly. O Start planning a honeymoon. Make sure that your passports are up-to-date, and schedule doctors’ appointments for any shots you may need. O Shop for bridesmaids’ dresses. Allow at least six months for the dresses to be ordered and sized. O Send your guest list to the host of your shower. O Meet with the officiant. Map out the ceremony and confirm that you have all the official documents for the wedding (these vary by county and religion). O Send save-the-date cards. O Reserve structural and electrical necessities. Book portable toilets for outdoor events, extra chairs if you need them, lighting components, and so on. O Book a florist. Florists can serve multiple clients on one day, which is why you can wait a little longer to engage one. Plus, at this point, you’ll be firm on what your wedding palette will be. O Arrange transportation. Consider limos, minibuses, trolleys, and town cars. (But know that low-to-the-ground limos can make entries and exists dicey if you’re wearing a fitted gown.) O Start thinking about shuttle service for your out of town guests- is this a service you would like to provide? If so, start talking with the hotels you have contacted and see if they have any special relationships or deals set up for these services. O Start composing a day-of timeline. Draw up a schedule of the event and slot in each component (the cake-cutting, the first dance). 12
4-5 Months Before O Book the rehearsal and rehearsal-dinner venues. Negotiate the cost and the menu. O If you’re planning to host a day-after brunch for guests, book that place as well. O Check on the wedding invitations. Ask the stationer for samples of the finished invitations and revise them to suit your needs. O Select and order the cake. Some bakers require a long lead time. Attend several tastings before committing to any baker. Because why not? O Purchase wedding shoes and start dress fittings. Bring the shoes along to your first fitting so the tailor can choose the appropriate length for your gown. O Schedule hair and makeup artists. Make a few appointments with local experts to try them out. Snap a photo at each so you can compare results. O Choose your music. Are there any must have songs? What about DO NOT play? Listing out these items can really give the DJ great direct in your music preferences. Also start thinking about your: First Dance Song, Father/Daughter, Mother/Son, Anniversary, and Bridal Party Dance songs.
13
3 Months Before O Finalize the menu and flowers. You’ll want to wait until now to see what will be available, since food and flowers are affected by season. O Order favors, if desired. Some safe bets: monogrammed cookies or a treat that represents your city or region. If you’re planning to have welcome baskets for out-of- town guests, plan those now too. Another favor that is always a hit is wine or beer glass take-aways. Think of all the local Minnesota craft brewery options. O Make a list of the people giving toasts. Which loved ones would you like to have speak at the reception? Ask them now. O Finalize the readings. Determine what you would like to have read at the ceremony and whom you wish to do the readings. O Purchase your undergarments. And schedule your second fitting. O Finalize the order of the ceremony and the reception. O Order menu cards, if you like, as well as programs. O Purchase the rings. This will give you time for resizing and engraving. O Send your event schedule to the vendors. Giving them a first draft now allow sample time for tweaks and feedback.
14
2 Months Before O Touch base again with all the vendors. Make sure any questions you or they have on your first draft proposals have been answered. O Set up your timeline meetings with your wedding planner. O Meet with the photographer. Discuss specific shots, and walk through the locations to note spots that appeal to you. O Review the playlist with the band or DJ. Though you probably won’t be able to dictate every single song played, you should come prepared with a wish list. O Send out the invitations. The rule of thumb: Mail invitations six to eight weeks before the ceremony, setting the RSVP cutoff at three weeks after the postmark date. O Submit a newspaper wedding announcement. If you’re planning to include a photograph, check the publication’s website. Some have strict rules about how the photo should look. O Enjoy a bachelorette party. Arranging a night out with your girlfriends generally falls to the maid of honor. But if she hasn’t mentioned one to you by now, feel free to ask—for scheduling purposes, of course!—if a celebration is in the works.
15
1 Month Before O Enter RSVPs into your guest-list database. Phone people who have not yet responded. O Get your marriage license. The process can take up to six days, but it’s good to give yourself some leeway. If you are changing your name, order several copies. O Mail the rehearsal-dinner invitations. O Visit the dressmaker for (with luck!) your last dress fitting. For peace of mind, you may want to schedule a fitting the week of your wedding. You can always cancel the appointment if you try on the dress and it fits perfectly. O Stock the bar. Now that you have a firm head count you can order accordingly. O Confirm times for hair and makeup and all vendors. O E-mail and print directions for drivers of transport vehicles. This gives the chauffeurs ample time to navigate a route. O Assign seating. Draw out table shapes on a layout of the room to help plan place settings. Write the names of female guests on pink sticky notes and the names of male guests on blue sticky notes so you can move people about without resketching the entire setting. O Purchase bridesmaids’ gifts. You’ll present them at the rehearsal dinner. O Write vows, if necessary. Sometimes this process takes more time that you might think! O Get your hair cut and colored, if desired. 16
Two Weeks Before O Give final head count to the caterer and baker. Confirm all set-up instructions and menu items. Also finalize payment at this time. O If you’re having a receiving line, determine the order you want everyone to stand in (i.e. parents, grandparents, important family members, etc). O Prepare your wedding toasts or thanks to friends and family. Hint: Traditionally the best man, maid of honor, and father of the bride give toasts at the reception. If you’re concerned about length, consider setting a time limit for speeches, or have more of them at the rehearsal dinner. O Put together the reception seating plan if you’re having a seated reception meal. Hint: Leave 2 “blank seats” for every 50 guests. This will be for unexpected guests that happen to show up. O Designate someone to collect the wedding gifts/cash brought to the party. Coordinate with this person where they will bring the gifts after the wedding. Hint: This person could also take care of the guest book, since they will be in contact with many guests. O Groom: Get your final haircut. Hint: Don’t get your haircut the day of, you don’t want the disaster haircut in all your pictures. O Fill out escort cards or give typed names to the calligrapher if you’re using one. O Plan any additional night-before activities with friends and/or attendants and proper accommodation for out of town bridal party members. O Designate who (i.e. reception site manager, coordinator, close friend) will meet, greet, and handle each vendor on the wedding day. Hint: Usually your wedding coordinator does this.
17
Week of Wedding O Delegate small wedding-day tasks. Choose someone to bustle your dress, someone to carry your things, someone to be in charge of gifts (especially the enveloped sort), someone to hand out tips, and someone to be the point person for each vendor. O Send a timeline to the bridal party. Include every member’s contact information, along with the point people you’ve asked to deal with the vendors if problems arise. O Pick up your dress or make arrangements for a delivery. O Groom: Pick up your tux and try it on in the store before you leave. Don’t wait until the day of to do this! O Call your reception site manager and make sure your vendors all have access to the site when they need it. Confirm final payment at this time. O Distribute final wedding-day directions, schedule, and contact list to all parents, attendants, and vendors. O Confirm delivery locations, times, final payments and arrangement count with florist. O Call transportation providers for a day-of schedule and addresses for pickups on wedding day. Confirm final payment at this time as well. O Confirm location, date, final payment, and time with photographer. O Confirm location, date, final payment, and time with videographer. O Confirm date, location, time, playlist, and final payment with all musicians for the entire day (i.e. live music and DJ for ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception).
18
O Make a day of schedule for you and your groom. Make sure to include time for hair, make-up, and transportation to and from your beauty appointments and your photo session. O Put final payments and cash tips for vendors in marked envelopes and give to a designated family or friend to distribute on the wedding day. O Put together an overnight bag for your wedding night and designate someone to deliver it to the hotel for you. O Leave a copy of your honeymoon itinerary with someone in case of emergency. O Give seating chart to caterer, location manager, host, and/or wedding coordinator. O Determine any wedding day assignments for members of the wedding party, and make lists/info sheets as needed. O Check in one last time with the photographer. Supply him or her with a list of moments you want captured on film. O Book a spa treatment. Make an appointment for a manicure and a pedicure the day before the wedding. (You might want to get a stress-relieving massage, too.) O Break in your shoes. O Pack for your honeymoon.
19
Day Before the Wedding O Arrange for someone to drop off the guest book and pen and other important pieces at the reception site. Hint: This can also be done at rehearsal, if it is in the same location. O Rehearse the ceremony with officiant and wedding party and other important people. O Have fun and relax at your rehearsal dinner! O Pull together your wedding gown, veil, shoes, and stockings and put them all in one, safe place. O Put together a day-of emergency kit. You never know what may happen and it never hurts to be prepared. Give this to a trustworthy guest, such as the mother of the bride, or the maid of honor. O Confirm with those people you expect to give/lead toasts at the reception. O Designate someone to take and freeze the top layer of the wedding cake to be eaten at your first anniversary celebration. Hint: save some cocktail napkins, programs, place cards, and other mementos too! O If you are going on a honeymoon right away, ask a bridesmaid to pick up your belongings at the hotel after you have left. O If your wedding is in the morning set your alarm! Hint: Arrange for a backup just in case! O Relax, take a bath and get some much-needed sleep (8+ hours!) if you can!
20
Day of the Wedding O Most Important: Relax, smile, and enjoy the day! O Eat breakfast and other small meals throughout the day. Make sure to drink plenty of water and use the restroom before the ceremony. O Enjoy your hair and make-up time with friends and family. O Take a moment to thank your parents and tell them you love them. O Set aside a private moment together before or after the ceremony to exchange gifts and a sweet congratulatory kiss (or two). It always makes a great photo opportunity to catch this special moment when you see each other for the first time, either before or after the ceremony.
After the Wedding O Enjoy your new life as newlyweds! O Preserve your bridal bouquet, wedding dress and other wedding mementos, if you are choosing to. Hint: This should be done within 1 week of the wedding. This prevents stains from setting, and keeps flowers as fresh looking as possible. If you are going on your honeymoon right away you may want to give this task to a close friend or family member. O Mail gifts to your parents to thank them for their help and support (if you didn’t give them out at the rehearsal dinner). O Put together an online photo album of wedding photos from friends. Hint: These will most likely be the first photos available, since professional proofs can take weeks. O Send thank you notes for your gifts within eight weeks of your wedding day. 21
Venues + Catering The stage is set. The night is beautiful. As you and your new spouse walk into the room a smile beams across your face. Hand in hand, you stroll past all of your guests and see that all of your details are perfectly in place. As your happiness bubbles over you quickly realize none of this would have been possible without choosing this amazing venue. Selecting your reception venue will be the biggest challenge of the wedding planning process. Take your time in finding the venue that will not only make for breathtaking pictures, but will set the tone for all of your friends and family. Overwhelmingly, when your guests reflect back on your wedding, they will picture your reception. Because of this, you will want to find the perfect venue to express your personalities and make your guests feel as comfortable as possible.
22
How to determine the type of reception you want O Do you want the ceremony and reception to be in the same place? O Based on the size of the guest list, what size ceremony/reception site do you need? O Do you have a strong preference towards outdoor/indoor ceremony? O Do you want an elegant reception or more casual? O Do you prefer a Friday night, afternoon, or evening wedding? O Do you want a cocktail hour with a different location/room for dinner? O Do you want appetizers/dessert or a full meal at your reception?
Your reception will be responsible for roughly 35%50% of the cost of the entire wedding. This will include your facility rental fees, catering, and bar service.
O Do you want a live band/DJ at your reception/ ceremony? (You will need adequate space and electricity) O Do you want alcohol at your reception? O Do you want seating for everyone or scattered cocktail tables?
23
Questions to ask when selecting your Venue: O What amenities does the site offer? (Changing rooms, bathrooms, dance floor, lighting, entertainment equipment, wheelchair access, picturesque areas, on-site stocked bar, kitchen facilities, coat rooms, etc.) O Is catering available? May we use our own caterer, baker, etc. or must we use a vendor provided by the venue? O What is included and what are the fees that are involved with the venue rental? Have them give you an itemized list. Things that should be included are the following: O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O 24
Facility rental fee Cost of catering (at least minimums, final decisions will be made later) Cake cutting fees Floral fees (if using an on-site vendor) Linen and service ware fees (if using an on-site vendor) Beverage fees (this will be a decision dependent on your bar service needs) Bartending fee (usually per bartender) Cost of setup and take down Ceremony fee (if having on-site) Staffing fees Taxes for all services and rentals Minimum rental fee Overtime fees Security fees Permit fees Parking/valet fees Any other services specific to the venue. (Example: animals on site)
O Are there any special restrictions? -Restriction to access of rooms, music level or timeline, smoking, decorations, or flames. If having anything unique discuss this with the venue during this time. (Example: animals on site.) O How many people will comfortably fit in each room? O Is there any dĂŠcor included in the venue rental? O Can any dĂŠcor be removed from the venue? O Are candles allowed? And what is the candle policy? (Completely enclosed flame, etc.)
25
Questions to ask when selecting your Caterer: O How long have you been in business? O Can you provide references? O May we have a tasting of the items we choose? O Do you prepare food on-site? O What service styles do you offer? (Buffet, Food Stations, Plated Service, Family Style) O Do you offer a children’s menu? O Have you worked at our reception venue before? O What is the cost per person and what does it include? O Do you provide wait staff? What do they wear?

Photography + Video Looking back on your wedding day after the magic has taken place, you flip through your amazing wedding albums and relive your day over and over again. Your day is going to fly by and when you need to recall your incredible evening, you will turn to your wedding album and photos. Photography is not where you should be cutting the budget. Making sure that you have the best photographer that your budget can afford is one of the best ways to ensure your memories will be captured perfectly. The vows... the toasts... your first dance together... these are some of the most important moments that will take place at your wedding. Being able to watch them again and appreciate these experiences is something you will treasure. These special moments will be captured by your photographer but to also see them in real time and watch your day unfold before your eyes (and from your guest’s perspective) is an
38
essential part of preserving your wedding day memories. Couples are realizing more and more how critical it is to have a videographer present on their wedding day, not having one to capture your day will truly be your biggest regret if you decide to pass on this vendor. When selecting a photographer and videographer one of the most important things to be aware of is their personality. Does their temperament complement yours? Are they more laid back and calm or do they take charge and command the situation? They will be with you for most of your wedding day and being posed by someone that you are not comfortable around will inevitably end with awkward wedding photos.
Tipping Guide: O Photographer - $150- $250 O Videographer - $150- $250
Your photographer and videographer will be responsible for roughly 15-20% of the budget. This will include your photo/ videographer’s hours on-site, engagement photos, wedding photos and footage that you will purchase and tip to the photo/videographer (and their assistants if applicable)
39
Questions to ask when selecting your Photographer and Videographer: O What’s your favorite shooting style? Formal? Relaxed and Creative? Photojournalistic? Candid? O May we see your portfolio or albums of your work? O Were all the photos in these albums taken by the same photographer? O Are you the person that we will be working with personally on our day? If not, can we meet the person who will be? Do you bring an assistant or another photographer with you on our wedding day? O Can we give you a shot list to work from? (This ensures you will be able to get the shots that are important to you.) O How many weddings do you typically shoot in a year? O What types of packages are available? Can they be customized? O How many of these were similar to the size and style of our wedding? O How many other events will you also be capturing that weekend? (This is so you are aware if you are the only event or not. Although, most have no problem shooting multiple events in a weekend.) O What kind of equipment will you bring? Do you have backup equipment available? (Asking this question will also give you a good idea of how much space they will need. This can be an important piece of information to know when they will be shooting the ceremony.)
40
Two main questions to ask yourself after the meeting are: O Do I like this person? Can I see myself spending the whole day with them and enjoying myself? O Do I like their work as a wedding photographer/videographer? How is the lighting? Do they frame their work in a way that is appealing to me?
41
Fashion + Jewelry You are picturing your amazing wedding dress- well what do you see? High Fashion, Haute Couture, or the phrase heard at every bridal salon, “Simple and Elegant?” We ask you to pose this question to yourself: “What does simple and elegant mean to you?” Does it mean a simple A-line in satin with no beading or a satin bodice with rouching and a billowing full tulle ball gown? When determining your style, you are very lucky because today’s trends really do run the gamut, with something for everybody. Measurements will be taken after you have made your final decision on a gown. Have the gown fitted to your current size, even if you are planning to lose weight before the wedding. It will take several months for the designer to construct your gown once your special order has been placed. After that time, the salon will call you when it arrives.
42
Finally, you’re ready for your first fitting, which usually occurs nine to ten weeks before your wedding. However, let the salon know if you need the gown in advance, such as for a formal portrait sitting. At the first fitting, it is very important to bring your accessories and all undergarments so that you can get an idea of how the entire ensemble comes together. Wearing your shoes to the gown fittings will ensure accuracy in measuring to your height, while also giving you a chance to slightly break in your shoes before the ceremony. The average cost of a wedding dress in Minnesota is: $1,500 but can range upwards of $5,500+. Alterations are made between the first and second fittings, so when you go back to try on the gown, the fit will be very close to the final result; minor changes may need to be made while you wait or before the final fitting. The cost of alterations can add a few hundred dollars to the totally cost of the dress depending on exactly what is needed.
43
Silhouette Guide Ballgown — For the Princess in you! Fitted at the bodice and a waistline that leads to a full skirt. Flattering on hourglass body types. A-Line — One of the most common shapes. Fitted at the bodice and angles out to the ground (resembles the outline of an A). It is the most universal silhouette because it tends to look great on every body type. Trumpet — Hugs the hips and then flows out in an A-line around mid- thigh. It tastefully accentuates a woman’s shape without being confining. Mermaid — Fits closely to the body to the knees, then flares out to the hem. This style looks good on women with more of a straight shape. Sheath — Usually semi-fitted from top to bottom with a straight skirt with no waist. Can be very flattering on a lot of shapes. Goddess — A new shape that seamstresses use to describe any shape that flows freely from the bust line. Most of the time, this dress has an empire waist so the dress can flow freely. It also complements most body shapes.
44
Necklines Strapless — Clean line across the chest. Simple neckline that works great on small busts. Sweetheart — The most common neckline for strapless dresses. Dips in the center with rounded edges like the top of a heart. Looks great on larger bust lines. V-Neck — Very common on dresses with sleeves or halter tops. It can be very dramatic and low, or higher to accentuate the bust line. Looks great on small and large busts, depending on coverage. Scoop — A very basic U-shaped neckline. Completely rounded from shoulder-to-shoulder as if the dress were smiling. This looks great on both small and large bust lines. Boat neck or Bateau — Similar to a scoop neck, this rounded neckline is cut straight from shoulder-toshoulder with a slight dip in the middle. This neckline looks great on small bust lines. Off the Shoulder — Sits below the shoulders and accentuates the shoulders and collar bone. Great for large bust lines. Halter — Straps that wrap around the back of neck. Great for broad shoulders.

Décor + Rentals Choosing your wedding décor can be one of the most daunting tasks of the overall wedding. The décor that you choose for your wedding day will impact the look of the entire day and all the pictures that follow. It will add style and glamour to the event and will hopefully also bring functionality for those attending. But where do you start? The best questions that you can ask yourself are: What do you want the tone of the event to be (Formal or Casual)? What images are you drawn to when you look at wedding photos (Modern? Rustic? Vintage? Romantic?) What about a color pallet? Do you want to go more traditional? Or play with trend? Another great way to start is to think about your own personal style. How can you bring these ideas to life for your guests?
50
Things that will help you make decisions on your dĂŠcor are: the time of year, the overall mood you would like to set, your color scheme, your venue location (lavish country club or hip downtown theater), your ceremony location (a church may have rules you will need to adhere to), number of guests attending, and your budget.
Areas that you will need to think about decorating are: Ceremony: Pews, aisles, main doorways, altar, banisters, windows, ledges, extra tables, bathrooms and any other area in your ceremony space that might look sparse. Reception: Dinner tables, cake table, gift table, escort card table, the bar, guestbook table, bathrooms, buffet table, walls or doorways, banisters, patio areas, chairs, etc. Your dĂŠcor and flowers will be responsible for roughly 12-17% of the budget. This will include rentals, set-up, teardown, delivery fees, and tip.
51
Questions to ask when choosing your DĂŠcor Company: O What color linens/overlays do you offer? O Do you rent items such as vases, lighting, candle holders, etc? Is there a specific quantity that I need to rent? O Do you have delivery fees? O What is the damage deposit? O How long have you been in the rental business? O Do you have an emergency staff or after hours contact in case we have issues with the rental equipment? O What time of day do you typically deliver? How far in advance do you deliver to the site? O Where do I put my rental items when we are done? (i.e. linens in bags, chairs on racks, tables folded, etc.) O What is the payment schedule? O Do you have a late fee? O What are the set up/tear down charges? O Can I set up my own dĂŠcor to save money? O What size tent would you recommend for the size of my wedding? O Do you have set-up instructions for tents and other such rental items? 52
53
Flowers Choosing your flowers and décor will be one of the more inspired decisions you make while planning your wedding. When trying to choose your colors and theme, flowers can have an influence on what you pick. Vibrantly colored flowers can add a huge impact to any rental space. Be sure to hire a highly regarded professional — a mistake is not something you can afford. Something that can impact your floral budget is the season that you are getting married. If you are dying to have the perfect peonies a part of your amazing day know that the season for these floral is typically May-June. If your wedding is outside of these months you will be paying a premium to have this bloom in your bouquet.
Tipping Guide: O Florist Delivery: $20-$30 O Décor Delivery: $20-$30 (depending on the time, distance, and punctuality)
54
Types of flowers that you will need: Personal Flowers: Bridal bouquet & toss bouquet, bridesmaid & maid of honor bouquets, groom’s boutonniere, groomsmen & best man’s boutonnieres, flower girl bouquet or petals, ring bearer boutonniere, parents, grandparents, readers, ushers, soloist, and your officiant. Ceremony Flowers: Pew arrangements, aisle runners, memorial bouquets, chairs, candles, altar or chuppah. Reception Flowers: Centerpieces for the guest tables, entryways, cake table, gift table, guestbook table, bars, bathrooms and anywhere else that needs a pop of color.
Questions to ask when selecting your Florist: O O O O O O O O O O O O O
Can you show me a portfolio of your work? What is the average cost for bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, etc? Can you provide rental items such as candelabras, aisle runners, vases, etc? Do you deliver? When will the flowers be delivered? What is the fee? Is set-up at site included? Are you familiar with my venue? Do you pin the corsages and boutonnieres on everyone? Do you do multiple weddings on an average weekend? When do you need a final count for table centerpieces? Can you recommend any seasonal flowers to save money? Can you make any suggestions based on my color scheme? How much is the deposit to secure my date? When is the remaining balance due? 55

Cakes + Favors Wedding cakes have always been a highlight and a very symbolic piece of weddings. It is also a growing trend to serve other options. Naked Cakes, doughnuts, dessert bars, and mini pies are giving a fresh new perspective to this age-old custom. Figuring out a fun way to finish off the dinner segment of your night can be overwhelming with so many sweet and delicious options. There is no such thing as your “average wedding cake” any more. Cakes can have an array of fillings, flavors, designs, and toppers. From ribbons to fresh flowers, the appearance of your wedding cake can go in several fun directions. If the traditional wedding cake isn’t the route that you are wanting to go, thinking of some trendy buffet ideas might be more your style. Buffets can be a bit more
60
cost effective, but only if you’re willing to do the research. Some items that make for great buffets are: macaroons, cake pops, mini pies, candy, popcorn, French pastries, or chocolate dipped treats. Having a mix of these items can be an inviting and eyecatching display, but be careful, if you do it right it will be extremely tempting – especially if there are any little ones that will be a part of your day. Wedding favors will be the last item your guests take away from your wedding. You will want to leave them with something that will remind them of your day but also show your style as a couple. If you have a theme with your wedding this is a great place to embellish on it and go all out. Favors that will get your guests talking will be the ones that they can take home with them and use in their daily life. Some examples of this might be: a personalized candle, spices for their kitchen, a wine glass, custom-made soap, or even a matchbox with your wedding date. Cost for your cake will typically be quoted per piece and can range anywhere from $1.50-upwards of $10 depending on the bakery and the complexity of the design. Selecting multiple flavors and fillings will also increase the price. Another thing to remember with a traditional wedding cake is that many venues will have a cake cutting fee- this will range from $1-$4 per guest. Sometimes venues will give you a break on this cost if you use the in-house baker, or one from their preferred vendor list.
Tipping Guide: O Dessert delivery: $20-30 depending on the time, distance, and punctuality. (Whoever is supervising these deliveries typically handles the tipping) 61
Questions to ask when selecting your Cake Designer: O How long have you been in business? O Are wedding cakes your specialty? O What other dessert options do you offer? O Can you do custom designed cakes? O What types of icings and flavors of filling do you offer? O What is your baking/decorating process? O How many weddings do you do on an average weekend? O How far in advance are the cakes made? O How do you deliver the cakes? What is the process? O What do your price quotes include? (Delivery charge, top tier decorations, different cake flavors, etc.)
62
How to choose the right Favors for your guests: O If it is a casual event feel free to add tons of personality and style to your wedding favors. O Lots of couples like to DIY certain pieces of the wedding- this is a GREAT place to go wild! Think Pinterest, Etsy, and other crafty websites. O What else are you providing at the wedding? Do you already have more food than anyone could ever eat? Then try to avoid an edible favor. O Do you two have a shared passion? Are you the eco-friendly couple? Perhaps a small plant that guests can take home and plant. O Use inspiration boards and visual images to get your creative juices flowing. O Remember: Your wedding favors will remind your guests of your day and can have a lasting impression. What do you want them to physically take away from your day?
63
Invitations + Accessories Imagine your wedding guests. Maybe it’s your cousin, your best friend since college or your fiance’s grandmother. Just think of the excitement they will feel when they open their personalized envelope and find a beautiful piece of stationary inside. The colors pop, the attention to detail is evident and they can’t wait to join the celebration. Your wedding invitation will be your guest’s first impression of your event so you will want them to match the look and theme of your wedding. This will not only give them information on the details of your wedding but will give them an understanding of the correct etiquette of dress for your day. If your wedding is a black tie affair remember to stick strictly to etiquette standards, but if you are going for more of a laid back event feel free to let the verbiage show off your silly side.
64
Questions to ask when selecting your Invitations: O Do you have a minimum order? Do you create custom designs? What is the fee? O Can you help me with wording ideas? Etiquette? O Am I able to receive a hard proof before I order the entire order? O What are the charges involved? (paper grade/ weight, envelope lettering, fonts, text colors, etc.) O How long will it take to print my items? O Do you have other wedding stationary items? (Thank you cards, table numbers, programs, etc.) O Do you have a bulk order discounted rate? Don’t forget the Day of Stationery items included in this list: O Ceremony Programs O Escort Cards O Wedding Signage (Bar signs, Dessert signs, Buffet signs) O Menu Cards 65
Music + Entertainment The dance floor is lit. The music is incredible. The crowd is celebrating the night away. This is the image that many couples pictures when they think about their wedding night. To ensure your night is the celebration that you are looking for, you will need to be sure to hire the best emcees. Hiring a professional that will be able to compile a great list of songs for your day is critical. This is not an area to pinch your budget. Keeping the dance floor packed it truly a talent and you will want someone who has a lot of experience in this area.
66
How to decide between DJ or live music: 1. What type of tone would you like to set for the evening? A. Relaxed, classic vibe with some energy B. Contemporary, classic, exciting, with a lot of energy 2. How much variety in music is important to you? A. A little – very specific range of songs B. A lot! – a wide range of genres and eras 3. What is your budget? A. Very flexible B. Very limited 4. How much space do you have available for entertainment? A. Large space B. Very limited 5. Do you want music to dance to or more of an interactive music portion? A. Interactive – love the concert vibe B. Music to dance to – Electric and Cha-Cha slide, Macarena, the works! Mostly A’s Think about having live music at your reception. Pros for live music are that you get the classic feel and excitement of having a live performance. If you are looking for a specific sound of music, live music is great. Mostly B’s Consider having a DJ at your wedding. DJ’s are typically less expensive and have more variety in the music they can offer. They have tons of dancing songs as well as background music for dinner. They can be as flexible in their playlists as you want. You can also make a “must-play” and “do not play” list for a DJ. Your music will be responsible for roughly 5-10% of the budget. This will include: Your band/DJ, their equipment rentals, any lighting that is a part of the package, mileage and tip. 67
Questions to ask when selecting your Musicians or DJ: O Are you available for my specific date? O Can you play specific songs/or learn them? O What is your specialty? Can and will you play a variety? O How many weddings have you done? O Can you provide me with 3-4 references? O How long have you been in the industry? How long have you played together? O What sets you apart from your competition? O How far in advance do I need to book your service? O What is the deposit? O Do you have extra fees if you work past your designated time? O Do you provide any extra services? Lights, microphones, amps, speakers, etc. O Outdoor ceremony/reception: do you need any specific electrical equipment for outdoors? O How much space will you require? O Live Music: Can we see/hear you perform? O Are you willing to be our announcer/MC for the evening? O Will you accept special requests during the reception 68
Tipping Guide: O DJ: 15-20% depending on how involved and timely your DJ has been. O Band Members: $30- $50 each – depending on how long their set has been. If they are hired through an agency, tipping is a great gesture. Some contracts have tipping included- so be sure to reference your invoice for services to see if this is built-in. This can be done at the end of the night when they have completed their services. You can also give these tips to your wedding planner to disperse for you.
69
Transportation + Valet You have sealed your vows with a kiss and now it is time to celebrate with your guests! Riding in style to your reception is a must. There are many transportation options to fit your vision such as chauffeured limousines, trolleys, classic cars, muscle cars, or even horse-drawn carriage services. How do you pick which is best for your day? Valet Service Most services will require a minimum car amount. Be sure to check into this before you book, since you don’t want to be left with a tab. Most services will have one valet for every 20-25 cars. This can be arranged by your venue or an outside valet service company. You may also want to consider a coat check service for your guests contingent on weather.
70
Here are some hints in selecting your Transportation and Valet Services: O Think about the style of the exit you want to have. Is it a more formal affair? Then a limousine filled with your entire bridal party is the way to go. O How many people do you need to transport? When your wedding party is very large you may need more than one limousine. You might also consider a luxury bus. O Transportation companies will need you to book with them for at least 2 hours. So be useful with this time. This is a great opportunity to go take some fun pictures with your wedding party off-site. O Some couples choose to arrange transportation for all guests throughout the day. If you know you are having a lot of out of town guests that are not familiar with the town your wedding will be in this is a service to think about. Sometimes these shuttles can be organized through the hotel where you have a large room block. Otherwise this is something your planner can be helpful with researching for you. O Some ideas to help guests: Make sure you enclose your directions from the ceremony to the reception. This can be a huge help to out- of-town guests that will not know the area. You could also include information for shuttle services and rental companies if you expect many out-of-towners. Your transportation should be responsible for roughly 2% of the budget. This means these fees typically range $400-$800. 71
Questions to ask when selecting your Transportation: O How many years has your company been in business? O Tell me about the vehicles in your fleet? O What is your reservation policy? O What kind of insurance policy do you have for your fleet? O What does that cover? O What type of attire do your drivers wear? O Is gratuity part of the total bill or is this extra? O Are there any restrictions with decorating the cars? (“Just Married signs, etc.)
Tipping Guide: O Driver: 15-20% of the total bill (if not already included in charges) O Valet Attendants: $1-$1.50 per car if they are hired through an agency tipping is a great gesture. This may be done when they have completed their services. You can also give these tips to your wedding planner to disperse for you. 72
73
Rehearsal Dinners + Parties At times, the wedding planning process may feel overwhelming. It is important to slow down, soak it all in and remember this is a time for celebration! There are a few checkpoints throughout the year where you are encouraged to take a step away from the planning and just enjoy!
74
Engagement Party: What is it? This is a party to help you celebrate and announce to your family and close friends that you are engaged. Usually a smaller scale party, this is a great chance to get everyone together that will have a lot of involvement with the wedding and get to know each other. When should it happen? Typically within the first few months of your engagement. You will want this event to be as far away from the wedding date as possible. Who throws it? Customarily thrown by the bride’s parents or the couple can also throw the party themselves.
Bridal Shower: (These are typically themed, ladies only parties for the gals involved with your wedding but couples showers’ are becoming more and more popular where the men attend as well.)
What is it? History states that the bridal shower was for the bride’s empathetic friends to “shower” her with enough gifts to allow her to set up her new home for her and her husband. This is obviously a very traditional sense of the term and now it is more of a day for girlfriends and family to get together and enjoy. Gifts are still commonly brought for the bride but aren’t always just for her new home. When should it happen? It should happen at least 2-3 weeks before the wedding, but can be as far in advance as the host would like. Normally 2-3 months prior to the wedding. Who throws it? This shower is typically thrown by the Maid of Honor or a close group of friends of the bride. Sometimes the Mother of the Groom likes to get into the action and throw an additional party as well.
75
Bachelor/Bachelorette Parties: What is it? These are thought to be a rite of passage for the bride and groom. These are get- togethers with the members of the wedding party to celebrate their memories together. They tend to get a bad reputation and can cause some friction so it’s a good idea to have a chat about expectations beforehand to avoid any hurt feelings. It is also a growing trend to celebrate these moments together in a combined co-ed bachelor/bachelorette party. When should it happen? Traditionally, this party happened the night before the wedding. Now couples are trying to avoid this trend. It is not the best idea to have this event this close to your wedding as you want to feel your best on your wedding day. A better idea is to have it at least 2 weeks prior to your wedding. Who throws it? For the groom, the Best Man and for the bride, the Maid of Honor. The rest of the wedding party and other friends will usually help as well.
Rehearsal Dinners: Also traditionally called the “Groom’s Dinner” What is it? This is a meal following the wedding rehearsal. This rehearsal includes: your officiant, wedding party members (and their significant others), close family, soloists, and ceremony readers. It is customary to invite everyone who participated in the rehearsal to the celebration to follow. It can also be a nice gesture to invite any guests who are already in from out-of-town as a way to thank them for traveling and entertain them for the evening. Typically this is the time to present your token of appreciation to your wedding party and parents. It is also a good time for extended family and friends to make toasts (there are generally a limited few that will actually take place at your wedding.) When should it happen? This happens the night before your wedding — directly after the wedding rehearsal. Who throws it? The groom’s parents traditionally host this event. 76
77
Health + Beauty It is very important to stay healthy during your wedding planning process not only from a physical standpoint, but from an emotional one as well. As you are trying to achieve your amazing bridal glow, always remember that maintaining wellness is of the highest priority. Stress can build up quickly when planning a wedding and understanding that maintaining your emotional well-being will help the planning process leaps and bounds. Remembering the long-term benefits of a healthy lifestyle is important. Exercising and eating right will keep your body in great shape but may help tremendously with your stress levels as well. Keeping balance with work, family and your bridal life will be a challenge, but know that if you learn how to preserve your sanity this will ensure successful planning for your day.
78
Being a beautiful bride can feel like the number one priority for women getting married. Here are some ideas on how to help you achieve your best look for your wedding day: O Visit your stylist early in the planning process. If you will be making changes to your look, they will be able to guide you through that process. O Don’t go too drastic. You will want to look back at your wedding photos and know it was a true reflection of you. O If you will be getting any facials, waxes, or exfoliation treatments be sure to do a trial run with these a few months before your day as you will want to know how your skin may react. O Have your trial updo/make-up appointment at least 2 weeks before your day. This is in case you need to find a replacement stylist if your vision isn’t translating. O Try to make your trial for the day of your bachelorette party or bridal shower. That way, you will be able to show off your fabulous glow that evening. O When you visit your stylist for your trial up-do, bring all of your bridal jewelry and accessories. This is so the stylist won’t have any surprises that she will need to work with on your actual wedding day. Your beauty regimen will be roughly $150-$500+, depending upon if you have weekly/monthly appointments leading up to your wedding day. Typical hair and make-up will average around $200 79
Tips on how to achieve your ideal lifestyle: O Visit with your physician. Ask them questions about what your ideal physical condition would be. Remember not all programs are right for everyone and having help can be the first step to a successful platform of health. O Don’t take on too many changes at once. You want these results to last far into your married life. O Eat healthy fruits and veggies. A good rule of thumb is the more brightly colored they are the better they are for you. O Be active. Everyone is busy, especially when they are planning a wedding. Find time to make a consistent training program in your life. This not only affects the size of your dress, but in the size of your stress! Think restorative Yoga if the stress is really becoming overwhelming!
80
Questions to ask when selecting your Hair and Make Up Stylist: O How many weddings have you done? Can I see a portfolio of your work? O What is the total cost and what does that include? Trial sessions, day-of, extra items? O Can you accommodate my bridesmaids as well? O Do you have a group rate? O Do you have a lot of experience with my skin type? What would you recommend for a beauty regimen prior to my wedding? O What happens at the trial? O How long do your services typically take? O Where will the hair/make-up session take place for both trial (typically at the salon) and day-of (on-site where you are getting ready)? O What would happen if you are not available that day? Would there be a replacement from the salon?
81
Registry + Gifts Beginning your new life together will be a very exciting transition. Starting with your gift registry — this can be a great time to take dual inventory of what you both own. Look through all of your existing items and see what you would like to bring together. You will also want to reflect on who you are as a couple. Are you adventurous? Do you enjoy outdoor activities? Are you more of a cozy-by-the-fire type? Take these items into consideration when you are registering. Also, you will need to think about the big transitions you may be going through. Will you be moving in the near future? Do you have a smaller apartment that you will be living in? These things should be thought of from a logistics standpoint before you register.
Registry + Gift Photos by Coppersmith Photography
82
Hints in creating the perfect Registry: O Register at a minimum of 3 different stores. This way if your guests are from out of town they will most likely have a store nearby. You can also create online registries. O Break registering into multiple days. Trying to get it done all in one day will become overwhelming. Think bedrooms and bathrooms one day, tackle the kitchen department another day. O Register for gifts in all price points. This way your guests can choose a gift they know you will love at a price they can afford. O Be careful not to register for seasonal items. If you are registering nine months ahead of time, they may not have these items when your guests go to purchase them for you. O Have you already built your home together and need some good ideas for an alternative gift registry? Try a honeymoon fund or donations to your favorite charity. O Look for a store that has some perks. Do you get a percentage off of the items not purchased (usually between 10-15%)? This incentive is often found with the larger retailers. Remember to update your registry over the course of planning. With bridal showers, bachelorette parties, and wedding gifts your list will need to be replenished as items are purchased. Do this at least 2 times: once about a month before you wedding day and then the second about two weeks before your day.
83
Travel + Accommodations Honeymoon: just the mention of the word brings images of champagne breakfasts for two, lazy afternoons in the sun and candlelight dinners. After all the work you put into planning your wedding day, you can now enjoy a wonderful vacation together. Whether it’s sipping mimosas on the beach or hiking through the Apennines in Italy, the relaxation that you will feel will be unlike any other escape you have experienced and will be one of the most unforgettable vacations that you and your spouse will take together. One of the best ways to ensure that your trip will go as planned is to be as prepared as possible.
Travel + Accommodation Photos by Coppersmith Photography
84
Here are some things that you will need to keep in mind as you are planning your Honeymoon: O Get travel insurance: If anything happens you will be prepared and won’t lose any of the deposits that you have made. O Make sure that you have all the travel documentation that you will need. This can include a passport, driver’s license, and birth certificate. Be sure to check with your travel agency or airline for the exact documentation you will need. O Be sure to read up on current travel rules: This can be one of the most frustrating pieces of traveling. Knowing ahead of time what you will be dealing with can save a few headaches. O Reconfirm your itinerary with the airline and make sure you have transportation to the airport. O Be early: Having to rush around and feel stressed is not something that should be a part of your honeymoon. Give yourself plenty of time. You will enjoy this adventure together even more when you don’t feel rushed. O This is not the time to go for the “cheap hotel.” Splurging on some luxuries is a must on your honeymoon. What will play a large role in the cost of your honeymoon is both the location that you choose and the flight/ transportation to get there. The average cost of a honeymoon is about $5,000. It is very common for couples to save up and go on a honeymoon near their first anniversary as well. 85

FOUR
OVERLOOKED WEDDING FEES THAT MIGHT CAUSE
OVERSPENDING
Here at Perfect Wedding Guide, we often talk about creating a wedding budget and sticking to it. And now, we want to share with you some hidden pitfalls you should avoid if you want to stick to your budget. These are expenses that you might not be aware of, but you need to consider when planning how you’re going to spend your money. 92
Gown Alterations. It’s very rare to find a wedding gown that fits you perfectly. You will likely at least need to have the length reduced. You may also need the gown taken in around the bust or waist, have a bustle made, and possibly have cups installed so you don’t have to wear a bra. These alterations can add up. Before you order your gown, get an estimate from the salon on what your alteration fees might be and account for those fees in your budget. Bartender fees and cake-cutting fees. Not all caterers and reception sites charge for bartenders or for cutting and serving your cake, but you don’t want to be caught unaware if they do. The time to understand and negotiate these fees is when you are signing your contract. If you are hosting an open bar, don’t be afraid to ask for your site to waive your bartender fee if your guests consume a certain dollar amount. If you are bringing your wedding cake in from a pastry shop and you’d like to avoid a cake-cutting fee, ask if you can order a dessert course to make up for the loss in cake revenue.

With Pinterest growing steadily in popularity, hosts of bridal showers are getting really creative with their theme ideas. From the bride’s favorite musical to her favorite type of candy, inspiration for themes is in no short supply. Here are some of our recent favorites: Throwback Themes. We love the idea of a shower theme based on the decade of the bride’s birth. Got a 90’s bride? Give out scrunchies as party favors and offer guests bean bag chairs. An 80’s bride? Decorate with bright, vibrant (neon-like) colors and load up the iPod with one-hit wonders. A 70’s bride? Bring out the disco ball and bellbottom pants. And let’s not forget our flower child theme for 60’s brides! Opulent Elegance. A la Breakfast at Tiffany’s, hosts are going classic and romantic. From flowy script on the invites to favors brushed with gold, this theme will leave guests breathless! You can even ask guests to dress in their finest for an extra special touch. Garden Party. Simple and sweet, the garden party is a classic shower theme that will never go out of style. Use a fresh spring color palette, soft floral accents, and an assortment of food and beverages such as petit fours, frosted cookies, and pink lemonade to bring this theme together. These are just a few of our favorites. The options are really endless! For more tips, visit HeadOverHeelsWeddingBlog.com

TO BACHELOR AND BACHELORETTE PARTIES
104
Weddings come with many traditions, not the least of which is the famed bachelor and/or bachelorette party. Most of us think of drunken revelry and questionable “clothing optional” activities during these events, but I’ve found that not all couples are comfortable with this. After all, some of the things that happen at these parties can come back to haunt you!
I thought it would be fun to come up with a list of alternatives to Ye Olde Bachelor/Bachelorette Party. Here are a few ideas: Host a party. Some countries have a tradition called the Stag and Doe Party (also called the Hen and Stag Party, Jack and Jill Party, etc.). At these events, guests celebrate the couple’s forthcoming marriage and give them money to use towards their wedding and future life together. Attend an event that has meaning to you. Do you love a particular sports team? Rent a limo and attend one of their games with some of your closest friends. Did you meet at a bar? Take some friends along on a haunted pub crawl. Are you both Christmas fanatics? Go and see the Nutcracker Suite. Take a road trip. Imagine how nice it would be to escape before the wedding to a romantic bed and breakfast. Enjoy some quiet time together without discussing wedding plans. You might be surprised how much it reenergizes you! Enjoy a few laughs. Consider a group outing to the local comedy club. Nothing like a night of laughter to help ease any wedding stress, right? Along the same lines are dueling piano bars and karaoke bars, both fun places to celebrate. Take a class. Just because you’re planning a wedding doesn’t mean you can’t learn something fun and new. Consider taking a dance class, learning how to mix cocktails from a mixologist, or maybe take a painting or pottery class that will allow the two of you to make a special memento together. There are many ways to celebrate your last moments as singles… even if you celebrate together! If you have some other ideas of great bachelor or bachelorette alternatives, please send me an email to susan.southerland@pwg.com and we might include your ideas on our wedding planning blog, Head Over Heels! 105
THE
GROOM’S GUIDE TO BEING THE
HOST with the MOST
The most memorable weddings are the ones where the bride and groom are engaged with one another and with their guests. There is no doubt that it can be hard work smiling all day and night, posing for photos, dancing, and chatting up 150 of your closest friends and family, but if you follow these tips, your guests will marvel at what an amazing groom you are.
106
Before the wedding, review your guest list and become familiar with who’s attending. This will help you remember to whom you are being introduced on the wedding day. Don’t consume too much alcohol. I don’t want to be a party pooper, but if you’re hung over from the rehearsal dinner or sloppy drunk during the wedding reception, your photos will be terrible and it will be much harder for you to make small talk with your guests. Party as hard as you’d like at the bachelor party and on your honeymoon, but be conservative at your wedding.

Prior to the ceremony, mingle with guests as they arrive. Talking with your friends and family will also help relieve pre-wedding jitters. Write your bride a note and have it delivered to the room where she is getting ready. Tell her how much you love her and how excited you are to start spending your life together as husband and wife. 108
Put out fires. Your bride likely did the bulk of the planning up to the big day. If you see something that might upset her, do your best to step in and fix it, even if that means asking for help from your groomsmen or family members. Give a welcome speech. Thank your guests for coming, thank your new in-laws for throwing such an amazing party (if applicable), and toast your beautiful bride. You will make your family proud. Go table to table with your bride and visit your guests. It’s tempting to hang with your buddies at the bar, but it’s proper etiquette to personally speak with each of your guests. Stay on the dance floor as much as you can. Dance with your new wife, with your mom, your sister and your aunt. Help make shy guests feel a part of the festivities by asking them to join you on the dance floor. Don’t leave your bride alone. Make sure when you are on the dance floor she has a dancing partner as well. Take time to have intimate conversations with her and hold her hand as often as possible. Being a great host doesn’t end with the wedding day. Make sure you help your bride write thank you notes after the honeymoon. If you follow these tips, you’re bound to wow your guests as well as your bride. Then you can head off to enjoy your honeymoon! Have you ever eaten so much at dinner that you didn’t have room for dessert? As strange as it sounds, this analogy often applies to weddings and honeymoons. Couples can get so caught up in the planning of their wedding that they neglect planning their honeymoon. This may lead to problems, especially if all of the money budgeted for the wedding is used on the ceremony and reception. For some couples, postponing the honeymoon is the only option. 120
Here are some reasons why:
Budget. As mentioned above, lack of money is the number one reason couples postpone their honeymoons. No Leave. Some couples can’t take a honeymoon because they don’t have the time to take off of work or school. Interest. This may come as a surprise, but some couples are simply too exhausted by the entire planning process to even think about planning their honeymoon. Timing. Some couples want to visit a location that isn’t ideal to visit during the timing of their wedding, such as a Caribbean destination in the heart of hurricane season. In this case, they may postpone until the timing is better. They’re already there. Couples who have a destination wedding often include the honeymoon in their wedding budget because they’re already away from home in a honeymoon setting. When it comes to deciding whether or not to postpone your wedding, be sure to weigh the pros and cons as they apply to your situation. You don’t want to go into debt because you feel you have to go on your honeymoon right after the wedding, and you
might not want to make sacrifices if you choose to honeymoon on a tight budget. Whatever you decide, enjoy those early days together as husband and wife as much as you can. Sometimes, just living in the moment is honeymoon enough!

To help simplify things, let’s place wedding services into two basic categories: trendy or traditional. Trendy weddings feature all of the hottest themes from today’s wedding industry, whereas traditional weddings follow standards set over generations. Trendy weddings will get your guests talking and make a memorable impression, whereas traditional weddings are timeless events that pay homage to our heritage and age well in photos and video. So…which type of wedding should you have?
Trendy or Traditional
• You enjoy living in the “now.” • You consider yourself a no conformist. • You love keeping up with the hottest trends in all areas of your life. • You want your wedding to stand out from all the rest. • Time-honored traditions play an important role in your life. • It’s a part of your religion and/or culture. • You don’t want to “date” your wedding with the trends from only this point in time. • You’re concerned about what your family and guests will think if you stray from tradition.
If you don’t fall clearly within one of these categories, you can always blend the two. You’ll likely find that your tastes stray closer to one than the other as you make your decisions. In the end, what will matter is that you went with what you love most!
