Today’s couples aren’t afraid to stray from tradition, and they’re coming up with some exciting ways to spice up the buffet line. The most popular trend we’re seeing is the incorporation of various food bars at wedding receptions. There are tons of options that you can do, from cupcakes to candy to chips and dips. Let’s check out a few of our favorites!

Sliders. These portable little bites have ballooned in wedding popularity over the past 5-10 years. They can be made of anything from burgers to buffalo chicken to gyro meat. Serve these up with a condiment station, and youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re bound to delight your guests.

International themes. Think Greek by offering a food bar ďŹ lled with different kinds of olives, Greek cheeses and yogurt, and bite-size spanakopita, or a Mexican theme with a taco, salsa, or churro bar, or an Asian theme with stir fry or sushi. This is a great way to bring out your heritage!

Breakfast. If you’re having a brunch wedding, choose a favorite breakfast food items and feature it. Think pancakes, waffles, biscuits, omelets, or even bacon.

Milkshakes. Ice cream bars are great, but imagine having a station where guests can create their own handspun milkshakes. Talk about nostalgic, memorable, and delicious!

Carnival fare. Offer up ﬂavored popcorn, different kinds of caramel and candied apples, corn dogs, colorful cotton candy, or some other kind of carnival fare. Guests won’t be able to resist these indulgent favorites.

Donuts. From sweet to savory, you can’t go wrong with a donut bar. Stock this bar with ﬁlled donuts, traditional ring donuts, donut holes, and a wide variety of dipping sauces for guests to try. This is a food bar that guests will love any time of the day.

Potato bar. Almost everyone enjoys potatoes, and they’re not very expensive. Present guests with whipped potatoes, French fried potatoes, and baked potatoes along with a variety of toppings and let them create their perfect spud.

Fruit and champagne. Consider providing a fresh and vibrant food bar with an assortment of sliced fruit served with champagne. Guests can eat or drink them separately or pair them together. You can even include some creative recipes for them to try. There are no rules when it comes to creating food bars. Consider how the theme suits your wedding and your tastes, and have fun with it! It’s easy to select a wedding ﬂower based off of what it looks like. But have you ever wondered what your selected ﬂower means? 60

When I think of flower meanings, I immediately think back to a scene in The Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey. As the two characters are walking through a flower market, Mary (Lopez) explains that she and the bride have already selected the base for the arrangements and suggests that Steve (McConaghay) point out anything else that may jump out to him. As they walk he points out a pale pink flower with multiple hanging buds. Mary responds with one of my favorite quotes from that movie: “Interesting. This is called the Bleeding Heart, the official funeral flower of Tibet.” Immediately Steve begins to sarcastically say how he is so good at this and the scene continues. To avoid being in the same boat as Steve, I have done the leg work for you. Let’s take a look at some of the most popular wedding flowers and see their real meanings.

The ancient Greeks and Romans associated roses with the goddesses of love, Aphrodite and Venus. Roses have been the longtime symbolism of love. Not to mention, each color has a distinct meaning.

• RED: Signifies enduring passion, the lovers rose. • WHITE: Represents humility and innocence. • YELLOW: Expresses friendship and joy. • PINK: Embodies gratitude, appreciation and admiration. • ORANGE: Means enthusiasm and desire. • WHITE LILAC AND PURPLE: Represent enchantment and love at first sight. 64

Discovered in the 16th Century by Spanish botanists in the sandy hillside of Central America. The dahlia is known to represent inner strength and creativity. When given as a gift, the flower expresses sentiments of dignity and elegance. It is also the symbol of a commitment and bond that is to last forever.

Story has it that Paeon, the physician to the Gods, received this flower from Apolloâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Mother on Mount Olympus though there are several variations to this tale. The Peony is known as the flower of riches and honor, and an omen of good fortune and a happy marriage.

Originally discovered in Japan, Hydrangeas were later named by the Greeks. Debates still remain on the symbolism of the flower. Some suggest that the flower represents vanity and boastfulness, whereas others suggest they represent anything thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s sincerely heartfelt. 67

PERUVIAN: Represents friendship and devotion. WHITE STARGAZER: Expresses sympathy. PINK STARGAZER: Signifies wealth and prosperity. First discovered in a villa in Crete around 1580 B.C., the lily has long played a role in ancient mythology. Beloved by the Greeks, they believed the lily sprouted from the milk of Hera, the queen of the gods. As a whole, the lily symbolizes humility and devotion. While white lilies symbolize chastity and virtue, other varieties became popular and brought with them additional meanings.

Known in ancient Greece as the flower of virility, Greek women believed that by feeding either a large or small orchid tuber to their unborn childâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s father, it would produce a certain outcome of gender. The symbolism for the orchid shifted to luxury during the Victorian era, and today this same sense of magnificence and artful splendor continues, with orchids representing rare and delicate beauty. 69

The photographer described it best by saying this event was a glamorous barn wedding. From the gold accents to the twinkle lights, Rachel and Paul’s wedding had every ounce of glam mixed in the rustic backdrop. The Attire: The bridesmaids were dressed in beautiful pale pink chiﬀon gowns, while the groomsmen all looked dapper in suits from Men’s Wearhouse. As an added touch, the bride attached her grandmother’s brooch to her bridal bouquet. The Scene: Rachel and Paul exchanged vows in front of several family and friends on that June 26th afternoon. As the ceremony drew to an end, the Oklahoma skies delivered one incredible sunset before the couple and their guests entered the reception space.

With the ever growing popularity of Instagram, it is no surprise that many couples are creating hashtags for their wedding guests to use on the big day. Doing so allows the attendees to not just watch, but be a part of your wedding. But the real question is, how do you create a wedding hashtag? One that everyone will be able to type in - whether tipsy or not - and one that has not been used before. Simple. Follow these quick tips: 158

USE YOUR NAMES. Sure there may be several Jim and Johns out there, but using your name is just the first part of the equation. THROW IN A WEDDING WORD. It’s obviously your wedding day, so why not use a word that identifies it. Words like: Hitch, Wed, Tie the Knot, I Do, Wedding, etc. ALLITERATIONS ARE FUN. And simple to remember. Use something like #HarrisonsGetHitched or #WildWilsonWedding. SPRUCE IT UP WITH A RHYME. Consider your names and if they rhyme with any wedding related words. Is your new last name going to be Stewart? Shorten it a bit and go with #StewPartyof2. WE LOVE TO BE PUNNY. Think about using an idiom or a common phrase in your hashtag. You can switch out a specific word with your name to get the punny in there. KEEP IT SWEET. Sure you could use something like #StephanieMarriesDanielCrowder as your hashtag, but it’s better to keep your hashtag short and sweet. Doing so will eliminate any guests from making any grammatical errors when entering it in. This doesn’t mean you can’t use your names. But consider using #StephWedsDan16 instead. GO TO THE SOURCE. Once you’ve come up with the perfect hashtag, log in to Instagram and check it out. This will confirm that your creative genius is all yours! SPREAD THE WORD. One thing to keep in mind once you’ve selected your perfect wedding hashtag, is to make it known to your guests. Add it to your wedding invitations, on your wedding website and place signs around your venues.
