This Cake Shop is reinventing the way restaurants are designed post pandemic. Bringing people back into the restaurants instead of having them opt for food delivery service and room service. The cake shop is located in the first floor of the Standard Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. The concept is derived from the iconic cake artists and architect Diana Kasko. The process of form finding led to the shape of the Floor Plan and Reflected Ceiling Plan that mirror the abstracted triangulation forms of the origami cake.

The idea of this retail shop is to bring the same clientele as the lobby from the standard hotel in to the space. The retail space will see working professionals, Banks, corporate office high rises, hotels, bars, restaurants, and tourist shopping. It also attracts neighboring visitors, locals, and tourists.

The concept derives from the deconstruction of Dinara Kasko’s “folding cake.” level 01- plan legend:

The project uses a deconstructed grid as a start. Following the deconstructed grid follows a network of deconstructed triangular shapes connecting at one point that lower to the ground at one end and rise in others.

The tile was a simplified idea of a deconstructed exploded folding cake and the development of the initial abstraction of the cake.
