PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear Members,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am delighted to reflect on the incredible celebrations we recently held to mark Sentosa Golf Club’s 50th Anniversary, which took place over the weekend of 5 to 7 October. This milestone event is a testament to the deep connection and sense of community that defines our Club, and I am thrilled to share the highlights with you.
Our celebratory weekend featured three delightful golf days, starting with our Members’ Day on Saturday, followed by a Stakeholder’s Golf Day on Sunday, and culminating with the highly anticipated Public Golf Day on Monday. The response from the public was nothing short of overwhelming. The Club received close to 1,200 flight entries for the 64 golf flights set aside for participants eager to experience the iconic Serapong Course. For just $50, participants enjoyed a round on one of the world’s most prestigious golf courses. Our General Manager Andy shared that many arrived well before 6am that Monday; a lucky family of four skipped work and school to play. It brought back memories of the Club's vibrant early days, and we could feel the excitement and camaraderie across the fairways.
Adding to the festive atmosphere was our food fiesta and golf carnival, which took place at the Practice Range and Serapong Staging area. The variety of food stalls, games, music and activities created a lively and fun-filled environment that everyone could enjoy, from avid golfers to families spending the day at the Club. The weekend was a wonderful blend of tradition, community, and celebration, capturing the spirit that has made Sentosa Golf Club a beloved institution for 50 years.
As we look ahead, our 50th Anniversary celebrations are not yet over. I am pleased to announce that later this year, each Principal Member will receive a commemorative Coffee Book. This special book will respectfully capture the history and essence of Sentosa Golf Club, featuring stunning photography and heartfelt stories that showcase our journey over the past five decades. It will serve as a lasting tribute to the people, events, and moments that have shaped our Club’s legacy.
We are also gearing up for our upcoming festive season. An exquisite Whisky Wonder dinner is scheduled to take place on Friday 29 November, followed by the much-loved Christmas Golf event on Saturday 14 December on The Serapong. These events promise to bring a joyful close to the year, offering members a chance to celebrate the yuletide season with great company, delicious food, and festive cheer.
Thank you all for your continued support and participation in making our 50th Anniversary celebrations such a memorable success. Sentosa Golf Club has always been about the people who make up our community, and it is your passion, dedication, and spirit that make our Club such a special place.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events and to continuing this wonderful journey together.
Warm regards,
Andrew M Lim President

SENTOSA GOLF CLUB
GM’S MESSAGE
Dear Members, Colleagues, and Friends
As our Golden Jubilee year draws to a close, we hope you've been enjoying your time on the course as much as we've enjoyed seeing the record-breaking rounds over the past few months. It's been an incredible time for the Club, and I want to take this opportunity to highlight some of the exciting developments and remind everyone of a few important aspects that make our golf experience truly exceptional.
Fort Berhala Reping
First and foremost, I am thrilled to share that the restoration of Berhala Reping at The Serapong is nearing completion. This historic landmark, deeply intertwined with the Club's heritage, has been undergoing meticulous structural restoration work for several months now. Once completed, Fort Berhala Reping will continue to stand strong as a beautiful testament to Sentosa Golf Club’s rich history and as a stunning backdrop to The Serapong's 6th Green.
Respect and Sportsmanship
Now, while we've seen more golfers enjoying the course, it is important to remind everyone about maintaining the spirit of respect and sportsmanship, which lies at the heart of our Club. Whether you are an experienced player or a newcomer to the game, it is vital that we all demonstrate respect for fellow players and our marshals while out on the golf course.
Our marshals are there to ensure smooth play and maintain the integrity of the game, so I kindly ask everyone to cooperate with them in the same manner we would expect of others. They also have the authority to ask any golfer to pick up the pace of play or skip a hole if you are falling behind.
In addition to respect for each other, we must also be mindful of the golf course itself. A lot of effort goes into maintaining the pristine condition of the greens, fairways, and bunkers. Please take the time to repair divots, fix ball marks, and ensure that bunkers are raked after use. These small actions not only show respect for the course, but also ensure that everyone can enjoy the game on wellmaintained grounds. After all, a well-cared-for golf course reflects the pride we have in our Club.
Golf Safety
A special reminder to everyone regarding safety and patience while playing: please be considerate and do not advance your ball until the group ahead of you is safely in
their golf carts and has completely left the playing area. Rushing play not only compromises safety but can also disrupt the enjoyment for others. Playing with patience is an essential part of the game, and we encourage all to embrace this principle. Let’s all commit to keeping the experience safe, enjoyable, and respectful for every group out on the course.
Should your ball or anyone in your flights ball go off line, please shout loud enough to wake up all the babies at Sentosa Cove. It is essential that your fellow golfer can hear this, so they can protect themselves.
Tournament Season 2025
With these reminders in mind, I am also pleased to announce that preparations for the upcoming tournament season is underway. This year promises to be one of the most thrilling seasons we've ever had, and we are calling it the Super Bowl of Golf. It will be an extraordinary fortnight filled with world-class golf and unforgettable moments, and we are excited to host two major tournaments back-to-back.
First up is the HSBC Women's World Championship (HWWC), where the best LPGA players from around the globe will take on the challenge of our renowned Tanjong Course. Immediately following the HSBC WWC, we will host the LIV Golf event on the Serapong Course, where some of the world’s most dynamic and accomplished male golfers will showcase their talent.
This back-to-back lineup is truly historic for both the Club and Singapore. The excitement around these events is already building, and we anticipate a vibrant atmosphere both on and off the course. To make it even more special, we encourage you to invite your family and friends as well as overseas guests to join us for these remarkable events. Whether they are golf enthusiasts or just here for the spectacle, it will be an incredible experience for everyone.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Club, enjoying the beautiful weather, making the most of our pristine courses, and celebrating this remarkable tournament season together. Thank you for your continued support, and let's make this an unforgettable time for the Club!
Warm regards

LIV'S JONES SPEAKS AT AGIF CONFERENCE
LIV Golf Senior Vice-President of Impact and Sustainability Jake Jones was a keynote speaker at the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) Conference in Malaysia. The conference ran alongside the Maybank Championship, the richest LPGA Tour event in the region, and Jones spoke of LIV Golf's social impact and sustainability strategy ‘Potential, Unleashed’. This was launched in the middle of 2023 and includes a variety of programmes – LIV to Learn, LIV Green, Transform the Game, and the Way We LIV – all of which reflect a holistic and transformational strategy for social impact.
NEW SUSTAINABILITY ALLIANCE ANNOUNCED
The GEO Sustainable Golf Foundation will partner with International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) in their quest to advance sustainability in the game. The four objectives of the partnership are to promote sustainable tourism, support sustainable golf, collaborate on educational initiatives and certification and recognition. Here IGTM will help bring added promotion and visibility to resorts and venues that have earned the GEO Certified label for leadership in sustainable golf. “Together, we aim to inspire positive change and create lasting value for all global golf tourism eco-system stakeholders,” said David Griffiths, Event Director, IGTM.
ASIA-PACIFIC AMATEUR HEADING TO DUBAI
The 16th Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship will be played at Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis Course in Dubai, home to the Dubai Desert Classic since 1989. The championship will return to Dubai and the Middle East for the second time in October next year after its debut in the region in 2021. The field is comprised of the top male amateurs in the Asia-Pacific region representing the 43 APGC-affiliated organisations with the winner receiving an invite to the following year's Masters and the 154th Open at Royal Birkdale. Sentosa played host to the tournament in 2018 when Japan's Takumi Kanaya beat Keita Nakajima and Rayhan Thomas by two shots. Other notable champions include two-time winner Hideki Matsuyama.
UNHERALDED AMERICAN LANDS THAI VICTORY
American Michael Maguire got the better of his countryman John Catlin in a play-off for the Black Mountain Championship in Thailand. Maguire, playing in just his second season on the Asian Tour, secured his first professional with a par on the second play-off hole having holed a 20-footer on the first extra hole. “Big weight off my shoulders. You know, kind of been close, you know, kind of a journeyman, played on every tour you can think of and finally to get a win on a big, big tour like this is huge!” said Maguire. The leading player at the conclusion of the season earns full entry into LIV Golf for 2025 with Catlin leading the race after two wins earlier in the season.

SENTOSA OPENS ITS DOORS FOR
Golden Jubilee Celebrations
Sentosa Golf Club’s Golden Jubilee was celebrated in some style with a unique and historic three-day festival. The Club offered a series of events from 5-7 October which opened the doors for a once-in-alifetime opportunity to all golfers. The celebrations would include world-class food, golf and company befitting of one of the most iconic courses and clubs on the planet.
On 5 October The Serapong played host to a special Members' Day where members and their guests could play what was voted as the World’s Best Golf Course at the World Golf Awards in 2023. The Club and tee sheet was full of 224 players taking part across the morning and afternoon starting times and the course was filled with energy reminiscent of its early days. The following afternoon the Club welcomed our shareholders onto The Serapong where 73 players would tee it up and another 20 attendees
would join them later for the food and festivities and the opportunity to reflect on the relationships forged over the years.
Of course, Sentosa Golf Club is not just about two world-class courses, it is also a haven for community, fellowship and fun. Throughout the weekend there were various activities to keep everyone entertained, including competitions organised by the Singapore Golf Association, and one particular highlight was an 18hole mini-golf course which had been creatively reimagined to pay tribute to the old Tanjong. Then the evenings were spent with live music amid a carnival atmosphere.
On the third and final day of the three-day festival the Club welcomed another 224 golfers but this time through a golden-ticket system where a tee time could be secured for just $50. Unsurprisingly there was an incredible sign-up with close to 5,000 golfers putting their names down before 56 fourballs, 28 going off at 7am and 28 at 12.15pm, were lucky enough to sample The Serapong, many
of them for the first time.
Of course, one of the beauties of the course is its 'tournament ready' conditioning so every golfer across the three days was lucky enough to sample the fast, undulating greens, signature holes, manicured fairways and stunning views of the Singapore cityscape.
“Our 50th anniversary is a milestone not just for Sentosa Golf Club but for the entire golfing community. By offering this special rate, we wanted to give back and allow more players to experience the magic of The Serapong,” said Andrew Johnston, General Manager and Director of Agronomy at Sentosa.
Going back to 1974 the original Tanjong Course was laid out by English architect Frank Pennick from the challenging terrain with the only way of reaching the island was coming by bumboats and ferries. The 2nd hole, located on a small reef off the main island, soon became iconic and the course became known as the ‘golf ball eater’. In 1982 designer Ronald Fream
overcame the challenge of the South China Sea and pieced together The Serapong.
More than three million cubic metres of sand was pumped and dredged from shipping channels and, from the sea and swamp, emerged the Dragon’s Tail which incorporates the world-famous 5th green with the Singapore CBD skyline in the background and the 6th which features the ‘Dragon’s tooth’ in a greenside bunker.
The first tour golf took place in 2005 when the then-titled Barclays Singapore Open arrived at Sentosa and the tournament would run until 2022 with a three-year break in the middle. Adam Scott would beat Lee Westwood by a whopping seven strokes in the inaugural event and he would make it three victories in the first six years. In 2013 the best female players in the world made Sentosa their home with The Serapong hosting from 201316 before switching to The Tanjong following a major renovation.
While at The Serapong the championship saw what probably remains the stand-out moment when Paula Creamer drained a ridiculous 75foot putt across the 18th to capture a playoff against Azahara Munoz. It would be the American’s first win since the US Women’s Open in 2010 and is still her most recent victory – interestingly,
Bringing this level of play to these parts of Asia and seeing the young kids and their eyes, the way they look at you and how much they love golf and how much they want to get out here, that's a big part in the long-term success of the game.
as well as the US Open, it is the only trophy that she keeps at home.
“I could stand there all day long and hit a putt there and not hole it. I really didn't even watch the last four feet of it, I was just hoping it would slow down when it was near the hole and then it disappeared. I seriously cannot tell you the way I felt, it was like somebody just knocked the wind out of me. It was pretty amazing,” explained Creamer.
In 2021, The Serapong saw its own huge overhaul of improvements by Andrew Johnston and a new era of tournament golf was welcomed when LIV Golf Singapore made its home at Sentosa in 2023. Talor Gooch and Brooks Koepka were the first two winners and in March 2025 the likes of Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau will be back in Singapore.
Phil Mickelson, who has been coming to Singapore since the early days of tournament golf, is one who has relished the chance to return.
“It's a huge part of the growth of the game. I grew up being able to go out and watch the PGA Tour players in my backyard growing up in San Diego. It was something to be able to see the best players play and be inspired to try to get out there is a very big part of dreaming when you're a kid. Bringing this level of play to these parts of Asia and seeing the young kids and their
eyes, the way they look at you and how much they love golf and how much they want to get out here, that's a big part in the long-term success of the game.”
In our now 50-year history, the Club can be rightly proud of all our efforts. Our sustainability journey has been a hugely positive and important part of the Club’s recent history, and we continue to set the benchmark. Sentosa has removed all singleuse plastics and installed water stations, created bee colonies and a sustainable herb garden, implemented GPS spraying equipment, installed rechargeable lithium batteries in the golf carts, introduced a single-head control irrigation system, installed reservoir lakes and we are the first Club in Asia to install waste digesters and use carbon products in our agronomy programme.
In 2021, Sentosa Development Corporation announced plans for the island to become carbon neutral by 2030, a feat Sentosa Golf Club achieved some seven years early.
To celebrate further an incredible half century a commemorative book will soon be released, and the publication will capture a remarkable legacy through stories, photographs, and memories. Here’s to the next 50 years of excellence!

Shannon TAN
Singaporean Professional Golfer – Ladies European Tour
At the start of the year, I turned professional after I got my Ladies European Tour card at Q-School.
This was quite a tough decision as Texas Tech University had given me a full-ride scholarship to play D1 golf and I didn’t want to let my teammates down, on the other hand playing professional golf has been a goal of mine since my childhood and I couldn’t defer a Tour card. Thankfully my coaches were very supportive, and they encouraged me to pursue my dreams.
The idea of playing golf in different countries and competing against some of the best was very exciting. I also hope that being the first Singaporean to secure a full LET card will show others, especially juniors, that this is achievable, and that Singapore is able to compete on a world stage. Anything is possible as long as you practise hard and stay focused. The journey isn’t always easy, but with dedication and perseverance, you can achieve great things.
Incredibly I won the first event of 2024 at the Magical Kenya Ladies
Open on my LET debut. Going into the final round I knew that I could give myself a real shot at winning if I stuck to the game plan and repeated my usual mantra – one shot at a time.
I had played in high-level amateur, college and a few professional events and the experience I'd gained definitely helped me manage my game and the pressure. I stayed calm, focused and I also reminded myself to enjoy the moment.
I'm still only 20 so my short-term goal is to get used to Tour life;
It is always an honour to fly the Singapore flag on an international stage and getting to do so at the Games was extra special.
learning more each day about media, sponsors, travel arrangements and understanding aspects like how much I can play before needing a break. I’m also getting more familiar with the different courses. In the long term, my goal is to one day compete on the LPGA Tour, to keep learning, to work on my weaknesses and to stay mentally sharp through each tournament.
This year I also achieved another dream which was to play at the Olympics. It is always an honour to fly the Singapore flag on an international stage and getting to do so at the Games was extra special. Likewise, to make my first cut at St Andrews in the AIG Women's Open was an unforgettable experience. The conditions were tough, a true test of Scottish golf with the wind and rain. It's all been an incredible learning curve and, if I were to offer any advice to aspiring professionals, it would be to be prepared for the demands off the course, to stay organised and prioritise your wellbeing alongside your performance.

HOW TO PLAY THE SERAPONG’S
HARDEST HOLES
If I asked every member which holes they thought were the hardest, I’d get a range of answers. It’s subjective, of course. One player might find it quite easy to play a soft draw, for example, or a power fade. We can all see shots in a different way, too, and for whatever reason certain holes can just play with our minds.
After looking at the statistics from LIV Golf Singapore – and ignoring the 12th which played as a really challenging par 4 (normally a par 5) – these were the holes that played the hardest. Agree? Here’s how to get through these holes without any blemishes on your card. Who knows, you might even pick up a birdie or two.
This hole is mostly about strategy. The place to miss is down the left. Longer players can fly it over the left bunker – just be mindful of the total distance to the second bunker. To avoid making a big number, you have to avoid the water. Play with the shot shape you can hit,
The tee shot here is really demanding with the severe elevation change. If you find yourself stuck on the downslope, you’ll need to neutralize the effect of the slope. Take more loft than usual because the ball will come out lower and try and get your spine more perpendicular to the slope. It’s important to position more weight onto your lower foot. Balance is key – try keeping the backswing a little shorter and swing down the slope. ‘Chase’ after it and extend the clubhead down the slope as you release all of your trail side.
HOLE 15
A long, accurate tee shot is required on this brute of a hole. Flirt too much with the left side and you may find a watery grave as the fairway slopes that way. If long enough there is a lot more space on the right past the cart path. Otherwise, the bail out shot is at the second bunker on the right. Go with the shot shape you know you can play.
HOLE 8
It’s easy to short side yourself when you’re faced with a tee shot of over 200 yards. Short right with a front right pin, and you have a couple of options. The high lob can be risky from the tight fairway. Try using your hybrid; this provides a lot more forward momentum than a putter, and takes out the dreaded fat. Open your lower body (feet and hips), grip down the shaft, and use your putting style grip and action. Make sure you position the club a little more upright, too.
You need to keep the clubface open throughout the swing and through impact. Keep your hands soft and make a long, smooth swing. Short and quick is a recipe for disaster. The hands remain soft and quiet as you slide the club under the ball. The open stance creates a slight out-to-in swing but by having opened the face at address, the ball should still come out on target.
With a decent lie you may wish to try a lob shot, although this one requires a lot of practice. Stand with your body open to the target (feet, knees, hips and shoulders pointing left) and aim the clubface a little right. Lay the club open as if you were playing a standard greenside bunker shot.
Left of the tee will leave you needing to conjure up some magic, especially if you are on the downslope. Work out your ideal landing spot by visualizing how the ball will roll out based on the desired trajectory. Try to get your spine more perpendicular to the slope; then, widen your stance and lean into your lead leg, gripping down the handle. Let the club work up and a little steeper than normal in the backswing and try and swing a little outside-in across the ball, thinking of a fade. Keep the pressure on your lead side the entire time.
AAMIYA 18 Holes With…
In the latest issue of 18 Holes with…we sat down with Aamiya Koul, Sentosa Golf Club member and Singapore National Amateur Championship winner, to discuss she got into the game of golf, and the toughest course she’s ever played…
How did you get into golf?
I used to go to the range to accompany my sister when I was 4 and just started hitting the ball a bit. That quickly became an obsession for me!
Who is your biggest golfing influence?
Lydia Ko is my biggest influence. I have been watching her every year at the HSBC tournament in Singapore.
How did it feel to win the Singapore National Amateur Championship?
It felt amazing especially because I was not expecting a win, given that there were so many older players participating with me.
What do you hope to achieve in golf over the next few years? I hope to win a few junior tournaments for Singapore and then play college golf in the US.
Do you have a lucky charm or superstition before a round?
I have a few! I mark my balls the same way for each round, and I cannot leave the putting green till I make 3 putts in a row to name a couple.
What is your favourite golf shot to execute?
I love the flop shot. It won me a lot of betting money with my parents’ friends.
What is the most challenging course you’ve ever played on? It was a course in Gunsan in Korea. It had a tough layout and was playing between the blue and black tees of Tanjong at around 6200 meters.
