improved outcomes for patients, as well as the ability of the network to attract substantial research funding. The OCE will be located in a new building along Great Maze location of the site presents a number of constraints for the design and construction logistics in terms of maintaining pedestrian access to the main hospital entrance, very limited loading and materials storage space and the close proximity of the boiler house and numerous live hospital departments. The interior design strategy is informed by a three-fold frame of reference – the patients’ voice, the clinical voice and art prospects. The vision is to create a calm and therapeutic atmosphere which is hospitable but does not feel like a hospital environment. This will be achieved using natural materials, integrated art and wayfinding and carefully planned lighting, whilst ensuring finishes are easy to clean.
