Dear Portfolio Reader: My name is Alejandro Freire and I invite you to read my English Language Portfolio. This portfolio is a compendium that covers not only written works, but also has had a lot of my time, effort, and desire so the written works comply with the objective of all readers; entertain and inform. Every work that I will present next was realized and developed with the help of my teacher of level 6 of YachayTech University that daily helps me to improve my level of English At the beginning of the semester, my fluency for speaking in English was weak, in the majority of the time I was shy when wanted the way express my thoughts, the nerves took over of me and communicating with other people was disastrous. Nowadays, with the help of my teacher and the daily communication with my classmates. I have the confidence to establish a fluid conversation and with the continual preparation of all day soon will be a better English speaker. A big problem for me was the concentration in all my works. Lack of concentration did that all my ideas were disorganized and without structure, it caused that


all my final job was inconsistent and without sense. In my life as a student the time always is against me because all works and homework that I had, always I did on the last day before deliver it, and this forced me to try to find some tools that help me or makes me easy the work, how was Spanish to English translators, as a quick and easy way to present my works. At the end of the semester I´m trying to do my assignments without translators, and my grammar and vocabulary got better. Now with more security I can bring my opinion and participate in any conversation or other type of event that is carried out with English language. As a person that thinks that the English language is very necessary nowadays, may say that English opened a lot of doors when we are trying of search good jobs because the education and interpersonal relationships may be improved and degrees and opportunities of jobs will be obtained with a less grade of difficulty. I hope that my portfolio will be of a lot of help for you, because the content that it has, has been analyzed carefully, and also have ideas that possibly be able to identify you, as I did with this work.

Skills and abilities versus education when the objective is the successful life If you have skills in something, do not be afraid to show it and choose what you like because sometimes study possibly can result in wasting time that will not guarantee you a good life. Since years ago knowledge was considered as a weapon to fight with ignorance because only a few had this privilege of education and as the percentage of knowledge was low, people had high secured jobs and high economic income. Today this no longer happens bcause many people achieve at least reach to a master, and in the field labor there is a saturation of sources of employment and only that gives advantages on them others people are their qualities. George leef in "Don´t Buy The Hype, College Education Is Not An Investment" says that college does not guarantee a successful life, but definitively your aptitudes and decisions do. Many are the people who think in the degree as a solution in their life. Nowadays, people that have a degree is something that requires dedication and hard work, but finding a job is too hard because the people all days are in “competitionâ€? and, probabilities of a graduate are low because they does not have the necessary experience that employers need. Companies and workplaces always try to hire people who have experience in their jobs because it will be beneficial for them. For these reasons, people try to find a job where job applications are low and the chances of being hired are high. Most of the time these people end up with different knowledges and positions that they never thought, the need for money force to get any job. In the workplace, employers seek to hire people who show interest, desire, encouragement and above all things take work very seriously. These features are not obtained by their degrees or the time that is used in the study, but for the qualities,


characteristics, and skills that each person has, these qualities give at people the necessary attitudes to work and have more availability of sources of employment. According to Leef (2013), employers do not give rewards to their workers only for having finished university and have obtained a title, they reward their workers by their productivity. The fate of a person and his future life is always connected directly to the decisions that the person takes; this includes their failures or successes. Education at university will not be a factor that defines a successful life because many times people have thought wrong and conventional way that people with title have an economic advantage over others who do not have it. People with success and who have high economic benefits owe his triumph to know how to take opportunities with wisdom and maturity, getting to make a turnaround of his life in his favor. The saturation of employment today is a problem that is affecting directly people who are newly graduated because they are the first in search of work. When there is not a job, people try to find another, but still at the same time people are pressed by the competition. This is a disadvantage in education because it means that there are people who have high academic level and training, but still fail to have a life of success. Then, the university does not an investment, is only a way to increase your value Leef (2013).

Effects of Being Lonely Many times, loneliness brings moments that never in the life we think have. Loneliness has been a problem since the begins of time because bring feelings like depression, stress, that cause big consequences in mood. The literature “Why don’t you dance?” shows how a man put his material things in the correct order that reminds his complete happiness because it´s a form to transmit the moments that when he was completely happy, trying to connect with the world and the same time to be happy with his own memories. Details, and the incredible order that he describes all that he had in his house, reflected clearly that those things have a very big meaning in his life. When the story begins, the man starts to describe all that he has in the house with the purpose of transmitting indirectly a part, or better say, the majority of his feelings, trying to involve at the reader in his world with his complex description. Happiness of the man was present when he lived with his wife. The feeling of living with his wife were real, pure, and beautiful in some cases, so he has a photographic memory of all things that lived and spend with her, but this only happen on his memories, and the unique way of have happy moments are with help of his mind and his actions that bring he this moments again. The loneliness of the man made that he searches much ways of try to be happy, now with the world. The man decided put out all reminds with the objective of showing the world all things that made him happy, and try somehow to have connections with other persons that probably have the same feelings and want to transmit to him. The man though to do this because he wanted fill the empty space that his wife had provoked him.


The man put out all his things because had a problem with his loneliness and he wanted to solve it somehow to feel less sad. When the loneliness invades the feelings of a person, change completely the character, and the mind search solve these empty with the feelings, doing things that can be unappropriated or very risky. To try solve the problems of loneliness, the world, and the people may results betters because are the unique that may understand feelings like these.

Native language improves the feelings of Children Knows other languages creates a new personality to take decisions in an assertive way in people. A person that knows how to speak in more than one language is qualified as a smart person that think and act how he learned in his native language. Children in early age should not learn to think in English because even they will not define and develop completely their own personality At an early age, children begin to discover all that keeps his brain and is necessary use a language as a tool to do it. The communication between people is essential to learn and develop those thoughts that after will help to define a unique personality in each person. In a life of a person, define a personality is very important because it is something that help to identify among the other people, define all your life, friends that are around, good and bad relationships with family, and specially the decisions that are took in life. The native language is the principal tool that define a personality. This allow at person to have a complex communication with other people, helping in their process and develop of learning. Now, if a new language as English is used in early ages to children, the personality will be affected because a new way of thinking is being introduced when the personality until is not define completely, it is to say, involve two separate and completing modes of think in early ages. Learning native language and new language involve two different ways of thinking. According to Sedivy (2012), childhood languages sound with greater emotional intensity, because people can assimilate with their past events that happened using childhood language. Foreign languages are learned more in academic purposes that only involves events assimilated with education. This is a reason why a new language is not good to learn at early age.


English can help people to improve their future life. With the use of this new language new doors will be open, and the probabilities of has a successful life will be high. Learn English at early age will help to dominate this language quickly in less time. Learning native languages more than a new language is a way of have the personality that a person should develop. Native language help people to understand and analyze complex thoughts because in an easy way, allows catch many ideas. A foreign language creates a different personality in each people, doing that the way of think will be more assertive because the effort that to prepare an answer to a question is thinking with a great velocity and with a few analysis.

Abstract Knowledge and personal skills in the workplace do not go hand in hand, nor do they relate at any time. To know the reason of this, it is necessary to compare and study what are the reasons that exist behind of behavior and the way of thinking of each person starting from their training at the university until their workplace. The thoughts that have the majority of people that are newly graduated are commonly questions like; where I get a good job? or ambitiously thinking, what is the correct decision that they should take to find a way to obtain a successful life that is something that all of us are trying to find or want to have. When looking for the successful life, there are many necessary factors to make this happen, factors as decision and customs will change radically the life of a person.


When the Objective Is the Successful Life, the Decisions and Skills Are the Most Important to Get It. University and acquired knowledge in the establishments of education do not ensure the same possibilities and capacities for all people in order to achieve a lifetime of success. Since a long time ago the idea that a person who has more education will arrive at high position in the workplace consequently enriching his life, is something wrong. The high level of education isn't very necessary when people are trying to find a job because factories and employers are in a constant search for people with the character and the necessary abilities to respond effective and productively in the workplace, these people might not have the same level of preparation than others, but they achieve to have the same or even better opportunities of jobs that are necessary to have a successful life. According to Leef (2013), Knowledge and mores obtained at the University only increase the value of people and does not guarantee a successful life, but good skills and decisions do. The capabilities that have each person are unique because it depends on their thought and forms of reasoning, rather than of their preparation, education, or knowledge to get a job. People commonly assumed that the main effect of schooling is to raise the level of cognitive development of students, and according to Dockery (2010), to explains in this way the relationship between schooling and earnings. Companies are looking for people with high capabilities to develop starting from their workers and get grow next to them, is for this reason that in the field labor for nothing serves to have the greater the grade of knowledge if not know as expressed, use it to his favor, or in benefit of all people. This is the profile of the ideal worker that seek all the employers, who starting from their skills manage to get advantage before the others, people that possess disadvantages is


because his thought are limited to introduce information to each time without get process it or make it useful for takes advantage of their knowledges. One of the factors that undoubtedly helps to get a life of success are opportunities that each person control to get along their life. The opportunities that are served in the course of life are few and depend of the criterion of thought of each person to make the correct decision because more opportunities will emerge that will allow the individual to go climbing more and more to arrive at success, this will happen obviously if the decision is the correct. When people finish university much of them are thinking about what they will do with their life, in this cases the education from university give the same opportunities to get a job. They will have the decisions to make about the correct way to arrive at a successful life when an opportunity of success is presented in life. The "market value" of a worker depends on a certain array of personal characteristics-cognitive, affective, and ascriptive. According to Gintis (1971), the cognitive characteristic are the capacities that a person has to combine logically, analyze, the information that is received. The affective characteristic refers of the inclination in the individual personality to take a correct decision and respond of a good way patterns emotional and motivational. The ascriptive characteristic defines a property of a person as his physic attributes as religion, sex, race, etc. With a model of education that develop earnings, and occupational status that is defined by time and the quality of education, a worker with these characteristics definitively will propel and will help to improve a company or factory in their economic capital. The methods or customs that are used to obtain success in the university is not the same than to obtain a successful life. According to Gintis (1971), some systems of grading in the university rewards for some students by their classroom behavior, and in another case penalizing others. This is affecting at people, and in the majority of cases


propel to have bad modes of individual response to society because the structure of social relations in education include sources of motivation, help, control, and interpersonal relationships is not the same that authority, competition, and business relationships that can find in the workplace. When people are accustomed to receive rewards or good grades in the university it becomes a big problem because all those people will not be prepared for failure, and this will be their weak point when in a world full of success, give up will result for them in an easy decision to make. Skills and decisions of a person should be in a constant development, those without proper education, and without the necessary knowledge, cannot improve the way of thinking of people. Knowledge is a tool that can help to support, organize and improve ideas, and this will help to develop skills and consequently the decisions will be better because will exist an analysis behind all of this making that the best option is chosen. Knowledge which is acquired in university if it is not used constantly, ends in a temporal or even total omission, and this will not help in any way in the workplace. If the skills of the person are notorious since university, the decisions taken will be more effective because people only learn what interest them, so it will be very difficult to forget it and also all that was learned will be applied in an effective way. When these type people are looking for work to try to get a successful life, the employment will be not considered as an obligation, but more like fun. There are many factors beyond knowledge that allow to get a full life, much of they do not need to be studied because be in the way of thinking in each one of us, it is different in each person and the decision taken will not the same, leading so to some to the road of success and failure to others. The skills are something that not all have and for this reason people should take advantage of this for so to eliminate the competition and ensure the quality and efficiency of this workplace. To take the correct decision at


the right time and have the appropriate skills will help in a greater extend to achieve the success, rather than have a high level of knowledge.
