Portfolio letter Milton Procel House 27. San Jose s/n and Proyecto Yachay University. Urcuqui-Imbabura. January 10, 2017 Dear Portfolio Reader: My name is Milton Procel. When I entered college. I did not know any English but since my first day in Yachay Tech I have been receiving English two hours daily. And at the beginning it was very hard to learn English. With the time I going to accustom about learning and understanding the English. At the present my English level is much better thanks to great teachers that I have. I going to show my essays worked in the English class in level 6. These essays going to be in order: 1. response essay, 2. literary analysis, 3. interpretation essay, and 4. final research project essay. Since the beginning of this semester, I have grown markedly as student and person. I had a lot issues about warm up because I was shy because my level English was not good and have low fluency. But each day speaking with my partners help me for have betters aptitudes, develop my English, and do not have shy. Now I am speaking more fluently and I can expose without shy. Another problem that I had in the 6 level is that I use “Google Translate� for all. It was limited my essays, projects, and homework. For this reasons I do not have vocabulary. But in this level I learn to write in a better way, as understand in a better form the text and the speaking of my teacher Alyssa Wolf. Thanks to this now the essays are not difficult for me, and listen the word more clearly.

My instructor (Alyssa Wolf) help us in ache day and always with her smile the classes are more funny, dynamic and interesting. She reward with delicious candies when we perform the activities in a better form. Actions like this produce in us the feeling of happens and want to be betters in the subject. To me the experience in level six was beautiful and I am happy because in this level I got very good friend, I improve my skills for have in the future betters opportunities in the life, and I have succeeded in being a better person. In this semester I have improved my speaking, reading, listening and writing. In the future, I am going to use all of this skills in my professional life. When I will be engineer they knowledge learned I can use for investigations, publications or simply for speak in front the public. Formal education and self-learning should be together for better opportunities. University education is so different like the people believe it is. When a person enters university think that the teachers will be like mentors, will be open books and everyone can ask questions and bounce ideas off. That itself is designed to give skills for a profession and that the students would be actually passionate about learning and discovering new ideas (Till H. Groß, 2014). But reality it´s so different. Till h. groß believe that the people have never let schooling interfere with their education, however, the opportunities are better with schooling (formal education). The self-education proposal by Till h. groß isn´t the solution to the problem of universities. The education should be a complex union between formal-education and self-education. The university (formal education) is an entity necessary for have a palpable result of studies. The methodology used is that the teachers and system give topics to study and in classes is only explained essentials content. The title that gives the university, help to improve the opportunities because at the actually all most of the workplaces ask for palpable title. The problem being when it do not cover the topics necessaries or simply it is insufficient for the education. Another problems is it doesn't there are the environment and motivation necessary. Many times the most of the professors there were just underpaid and overworked. Furthermore, The University itself isn’t designed to give many skills and develop attitudes like dedication and desire to study. Another problem is that the students think that books are boring and there too much stuff to read, becoming a bad influence. (Till H. Groß, 2014)

The self-education is a way different. In the self-education doesn´t there are laws, schedule, and boss. The Self-education is to take the tools of studies in your hands and develop it. This education is friendly with the student and adapts to his routine. It gives skills that the formal-education can´t give. But the Self-education alone can´t provide you palpable evidence to society of having complete any studies. Furthermore this not there are for any person, this is only for people that have a big willpower. For the people who use this education program Till h. groß recommend four steeps: Develop skills, learn for the best, learning is more important than making money, keep going and have guts to accept "NO" (Till H. Groß, 2014). The perfect education lies in an equilibrium between self-education and formaleducation. With the mix of both educations, it can cover the majority of problems that they have each one separately. Since education-formal show the topics and basic knowledge in class while the self-education could develop each topic getting a better knowledge and understanding of matter. Another advantage is that better performance will be achieved in the university or post-grade. This would lead to better opportunities of get a job and therefore in life. However it is a work hard because the society is accustomed to easy work, do always do the least. In summary a majority of people that have only a type of education will have a knowledge poor and problems along of his college career. For this reason the solutions is obtain a balance between formal-education and self-education. This change could improve the opportunities along the life a person. In life, the people needs to always be a little more prepared than others, as it always have competition and they must be well prepared to excel. This is the reason for understand that a better way could be change

How the story shows “coming of age”
To grow up is a difficult way where by all walk. While for a type of people is an easy way, for other people it is so hard. James Joyce presented a story where children that alone of the story have happens, sadness, and other feelings. And it can be seen how the changes of behavior and thinking are produced while children grow up. Childhood is a beautiful stage where the thinks are plays and so more. In this stage, it do not matter the majority of things but it is the point where the behavior being to change. In the adolescence the thinks are confuse. The changes in the body being and it produce scared in many cases. We Joyce say in the story the Childs play till the afternoon and wait for the joke or in the last case come back home. How it can see in the middle of James story the guy spy on sister of his friend and are not concentrate in class. This an example the plays are changed for girls. The changes on behavior and thinks are various. When children think and feel is innocence but with the walk of years, the interests are changed. Other example that it can say is how the guy does not come back to call his friend; he only think on the sister of his friend, how he see she every day. “Her image are companioned me even in places the most hostile to romance” (Joyce, 1914). This an example of the feelings that have this guy in the story. He are falling in love of the sister of his friend. The love is one of the principal feelings that the people have when grow up. In the story the guy feel happiness when he speak with her or sadness, and scared when the Araby are closed. This are the problem of adolescent.

Vincent Willem van Gogh was born in Zundert, Netherlands on 30 March 1853. He is one of the most important painters of history and one of the main exponents of postimpressionism. Since he was a child he had a great inclination towards drawing, so he began to learn for himself. He managed to move forward thanks to the unconditional support of his younger brother Theo who helped him financially and disinterestedly. The great relationship between them was documented through the letters that are preserved (Editors 2015). In life Van Gogh made more 900 paintings and more than 1600 drawings. When moving to France, he worked in multiple art galleries where he acquired a unique and recognized style, which allowed him to carry out more colorful and striking works. Despite his magnificent paintings, Van Gogh did not have an easy life due to psychiatric problems. He suffered from mental problems like epilepsy, psychotic attacks, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and delusions. But these mental problems did not become apparent until 1888, at the age of 35 years, when voluntarily decided to hospitalize in an asylum called Saint-Remy-de-Provence. It is believed that the mental illness he had influenced his paintings. But critics like Robert Hughes, claims that the works were done under complete control of his mind, since Van Gogh never painted when he was sick (Naifeh,2011).
One of his epileptic episodes caused him to cut off a part of his ear and give it to a woman as a gift (Naifeh,2011). A year later, at the age of 37 years he died by a gun bullet; The causes are unknown, it is not known whether it was a suicide or an involuntary homicide. Only one of all his paintings, was sold when he was alive, since the quality of his pictures were recognized after his death. In the subsequent period it was very successful, so much that it was an important influence in the works of other great painters of 20th century (McQuillan 1989). One of his most famous paintings is The Starry Night

which is a painting that was made during his voluntary internment in the psychiatric hospital, At the time of Post-Impressionism, specifically in 1889, a year before his death. This work was painted in oil on canvas, with a measurement of 74 x 92 cm, which is exhibited at the Moma Art Museum in New York (Naifeh,2011). The starry night a canvas painted during Van Gogh's stay at Saint-Remy-deProvedence. This outstanding painting is the only one of the collection "The Wheat Field"(Soto,1889). This painting is particular because it is the only one set at night. The creativity and vision of the artist was developed in different environments and climatic conditions. The development of the artist's paintings carried numerous sketches in ink or charcoal on paper. This process creation of the artist finally ends in shaping the sketch on canvas. When talking about The Starry Night it is necessary to identify the basic elements of the painting. First, the background of the picture contains the mountains of SaintRemy. It emphasizes the form of the mountains accompanied with a trail of clouds. Also we can see next a small town where we can distinguish a church (Boite,1984). Secondly, on the left side of the painting we can see the shadow of a cypress (Soto,1889). Thirdly, we can see a starry night sky. This sky contains eleven stars distributed in the upper right part of the painting. We can also see the moon in the upper right corner corner of the painting (Boite,1984). Finally, right in the middle of the picture you can see a wait in light colors that possibly represents a galaxy or a comet (Boite,1984). After enumerating the main elements of the painting. It is important to emphasize the authenticity of the previously mentioned elements. For this we can separate the elements into two groups. The first group are real elements that are modified to achieve an impressionist style (Caldarone,2010). On the other hand we have elements added that are a creation of the artist and demonstrates his point of view on painting. The last group consists of the moon, the galaxy or comet and the stars in the night sky (Boite,1984).

INTERPRETATION In the first time when it can analyze the piece of art. It can perceive comfort and calm. At the moment of seeing the parts of "the starry night". It can observe the spirals in the dark sky of the night. The spirals hug together and dance in the sky. It transmits the sensation of movement like that the sky has life and this is the reason because these are the most striking in the painting. Next to these amazing spirals It can observe stars and the moon with a exaggerate halo and colors simulate the impression of being the sun. Furthermore, many people say that the structure of stars represents a constellation. Also it's observe a big shadow in front landscape. In the first moment looks like fire shadow but analyzing it's known that it is a tree. The tree gives the contrast for connecting the sky with the ground. On the ground there is a little town. The town has a church that represents that is a town self-sufficient. The town was draw with opaque colors that transmit tranquility and the lights on in the houses transmit to observer a feeling of nostalgia. Vincent painting is an amazing piece of art. It represents for author mystical approach to nature and its deep vital anguish because this was a difficult time for the artist then try develop his feelings. For example, he drew the painting “the starry night� after cut his ear into madness attack and this painting was not appreciated by Vincent Van Gogh and it was sold cheaply. The people that bought the painting became wealthy people. In conclusion, the author only sent tranquility and calm as principal feelings. When it's see the picture, it's can felt amazement for some people has an amazing talent. Furthermore, the painting inspires to continue searching new kinds of art and paintings. The painter like him always have a place in the history and the people should to thank them because they are formed the world as it is today and they are unique in the world.

The advantages and disadvantages of self-education and formal education. As in the formal education, the students do not learn all need for be a good professional or as the self-education can not provide palpable evidence to society of a student have a complete education. Also as both educations are complementary, it can be correcting one with the errors of the other. For show it of a palpable way it performed a survey where analyzed students of the university Yachay tech and follow their development in different subjects, It obtain results different and discovering new data that prove the hypothesis. Thanks to this it know that students with both educations have in average better grades and less stressful than the students that only have formal education.

The self-education give you skills that the formal-education can´t give you. But the Self-education alone can´t provide you palpable evidence to society of having complete your own education. The perfect education lies in an equilibrium between self-education and formal-education. Furthermore If you don´t use the self-education with the formal-education you can´t pass with excellent grade each level or simply you don´t pass the level. Formal education is essential in our society, because in the good jobs there are people with high levels of study like the doctorate or Ph.D. And it is a standard that everyone follows as a law .Since the people cross to school, the society teaches that if (N/Pro) do not have a college degree they can not progress in society and can not have a good job.

This is the thinking of the society and it is bad. Because it is true that the formal education can give better opportunities in the life but do the people really need it? The system provides limited topics of study and in the hour of classes only explained essentials content. It is a problem because the students in the majority of times do not learn all of they need for be excellent professionals. Another problem is that in many cases the tests can be hard and the students need more information than the teacher do not share in class and it lead to doing not pass the level. The society considers the self-education is less important than Formal Education because it can not provide a palpable evidence of having complete any education. But it is very important in the school life. It can give different skills that the formal-education can not give it. This is because of the methodology that it use inasmuch as the way of this obligate to investigate and practice the subject. Furthermore the self-education it is friendly with the schedule of the student. Because it can choose how many hours to day study, helping to develop other activities that can help the progress in the schedule. In many cases, the people with self-education is better in the work because (N/Pro) have more probabilities of has experience. At the moment of combine both educations it can solve problems with the skills that have alone each one like the problem of lack of knowledge in formal education that can solve with the methodology of self-education or the distrust in self-education that can solve with the college degree provide for college. This are examples as both educations are complementary and necessaries for academic success. These are reason because it can say that the perfect education lies in an equilibrium between self-education and formaleducation.

First clarify that there are only students with both educations and formal education because the survey was performed in a college Yachay Tech and for obvious motives not there are students inly with self-education. The result show that the students know that the self-educations is necessary but think that is hard maintain both educations. The students that have both educations study more hours than the students that have only formal education. Also students who have both

In the college Yachay Tech, there are different students’ Whit different behaviors and attitudes. It is propose that the students that have in use the self-education and formal education have betters grades than other students that have the only formal education. But it is not considered other factors which can influence in each student will might change

the grades and academic performance. Can be distributed this factors in two groups: physics and mental. The physics problems can be: body tiredness, capacities and, problem-solving skills of each student. The mental factors can be: emotional state, Metal state of each student being able to interfere in the performance. This are the weaknesses of the point that could interfere in the final results of the project. It knows these factors and analyzed the influence in each one. But it does not consider the factors for different reasons like the factors do not influence to a large degree the results because firstly due to that all students in the same environment (university, classes, and teachers) tends to have the same problems. Furthermore that this factors can change quickly hindering their clear analysis. Another point against is that although the factors will be so different, the results only change a little because these factors not are very important and do not influence in a big way. Taking the results of the survey it can say that in the University Yachay Tech the majority of the students with low grades on the exams have only formal education. The reason is that they do not read and investigate in depth the material. While a less part of the students have both educations and their developing and grades are betters than the others. Concluding that for have a better education the people need have both educations (formal and self) because each one are complementary and provide skills for have a better develop in the subjects.
