How would you describe your style? My style of photography is bright, candid and romantic. I try to stay clear of trends when taking photos and editing as I know you will have these photos for a lifetime. I strive to capture the small moments during the day. There are so many beautiful smiles and romantic gestures between a bride and groom after they have just married - it’s such a magical time to photograph the two of them together. What is your favourite backdrop for wedding photography? I will never get bored of the beach at sunset; the metallic water and soft hazy light wins every time!

What advice would you give couples choosing photo locations on their wedding day? It is not always about the backdrop but about the couple and how I make them feel in front of my camera that makes for a perfect moment captured! I would recommend choosing one or two locations nearby, or en route to the ceremony, so there is more time to sip champagne and hang out with each other. Choose somewhere that you love going - if you’re always at the beach, then shoot there. If you love sipping coffee and hanging out at cool cafés do that. Your photos are a reflection of your relationship together so have some fun!

At Jason Tey Photography, we specialise in breathtaking and emotive wedding and pre-wedding photography. I love that I’m invited into a world that isn’t my own and I get to capture moments, relationships and interactions that I would probably never otherwise encounter. How can you ensure a special music experience on your wedding day? Discuss with your fiancé what songs are significant to you both. Couples sometimes have different music tastes but it’s exciting to discover where you meet. Chat with your DJ about your wedding timeline and explain the moods you would like to experience over your day. Your DJ will develop sound palettes that create those moods for those truly special moments.

What questions should your DJ ask when you’re scoping out your requirements? A good DJ finds out what your music taste is. They will consider guests’ demographic so there are beautiful moments for everyone. Expect your DJ to ask if you want the guests to be a strong filter or if you prefer the DJ to take the lead.

What things should you consider when choosing a DJ? Ask about the DJ’s music collection, what genres of music they play and if they are open to playing tracks you specifically want, beyond stock standard wedding music. It’s important your DJ takes care of all technical aspects by contacting your venue.
