What is your favourite wedding ceremony location in Perth? You can’t go past the Matilda Bay Foreshore or the Sunken Gardens at the University of Western Australia. I also love the Marlee Pavilion in Kings Park; it’s private, under cover and has an amazing view. I’ve married couples at spectacular remote locations too - one was a rocky outcrop in the middle of the Kimberley, accessible only by helicopter! Do many couples write their own vows? Most of them do. Some couples choose words from my book of vows and readings; others write something from scratch. My advice is that they agree on the length, tone and general format

and I have them email me what they’d like to say beforehand. That way I can provide assistance, if required, and have everything prepared on a card for the big day. What is your number one tip for couples planning their wedding? Being a celebrant, I’m always going to be a little bit biased towards the ceremony part of the day, and the ‘getting married’ part is super important. Don’t settle for ceremony ‘A, B or C’ – ask your celebrant to work with you in creating a ceremony that reflects who you are as a couple. Please don’t make finding a celebrant the last thing you do; when you find the right person, book them straight away.

At Jason Tey Photography, we specialise in breathtaking and emotive wedding and pre-wedding photography. I love that I’m invited into a world that isn’t my own and I get to capture moments, relationships and interactions that I would probably never otherwise encounter. During the day my couples trust me completely even if we’ve never met. For them, it’s a journey... their emotions go through highs and lows and through all that, I’m there. They’ll laugh and cry and not only will they allow me to photograph that, they’ll welcome it.

I have fun but I work hard all day long in the pursuit of better images, which is exhausting but rewarding. At the end of the day I’ll find my couple and congratulate them with a hug. It’s like I’ve travelled on an adventure with them and we’ve arrived at the same destination and I’m sincerely happy for them. I definitely love that feeling. I want my couples to enjoy successful marriages. My biggest gift to them is that they can relive the promises they made to each other through my images. The fact that they are one at the end of the day is what makes a wedding special. Everything else on the day pales in comparison.

How would you describe your style? My style of photography is bright, candid and romantic. I try to stay clear of trends when taking photos and editing as I know you will have these photos for a lifetime. I strive to capture the small moments during the day. There are so many beautiful smiles and romantic gestures between a bride and groom after they have just married - it’s such a magical time to photograph the two of them together. What is your favourite backdrop for wedding photography? I will never get bored of the beach at sunset; the metallic water and soft hazy light wins every time!

What advice would you give couples choosing photo locations on their wedding day? It is not always about the backdrop but about the couple and how I make them feel in front of my camera that makes for a perfect moment captured! I would recommend choosing one or two locations nearby, or en route to the ceremony, so there is more time to sip champagne and hang out with each other. Choose somewhere that you love going - if you’re always at the beach, then shoot there. If you love sipping coffee and hanging out at cool cafés do that. Your photos are a reflection of your relationship together so have some fun!

What is your favourite location for wedding photos? I donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have a preference for specific locations; anywhere that has good light!
