In the past the Banks and Building Societies have traditionally looked after us but many customers have lost faith and trust in them in recent years. The alternative is to seek out a Financial Adviser, which for many will be a scary prospect. All Financial Advisers are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and are charged with providing you as the client suitable Financial Advice. Financial Advisers don’t gamble with your money or guess what the markets are going to do, they use their knowledge, experience and skills to research the market and recommend the most suitable areas for investment that they can. Over the past few months we have seen uncertainty in the financial markets, a change of Prime Minister, a Brexit Vote and I haven’t even mentioned Jeremy Corbyn or Donald Trump. We can’t predict the future but there is likely to be further market uncertainty, whatever happens both here in the UK and in the wider world. Uncertainty may affect the markets in the short term and potentially in the longer term. The question then follows ‘ what should I do with my pension, savings and investments? ‘ You could put your money in the Bank or Building Society, seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser or put it in a suitcase under the bed. Whatever you choose there are risks involved and advantages and disadvantages. We would never advocate putting your money in a suitcase under the bed as inflation, theft or fire could seriously reduce your wealth. If you are going to invest in these uncertain times it is important to choose wisely and make informed decisions about your investments and your future. A Financial Adviser will complete a full factfind, assess your attitude to risk and choose the most suitable investment products and funds for you given all of your circumstances. There are investment products with a variety of different levels of risk, from low, low to medium, medium, medium to high and high risk. The returns on each will differ and your Financial Adviser can advise you on what’s best for you, your family and your future. If you would like an initial free, no nonsense, no obligation appointment with myself, Frank Cochran, Derek Baillie or Mark Mitchell then please give us a call or drop us an email. Call: 01902 422333 or Email: info@fscinvestments.co.uk We will always try to place your money in the most suitable place, at different times to suit your personal requirements.

Letter from Westminster – September 2016: Prime Minister’s Questions is the most popular Parliamentary moment of the week, for MPs at
least, when we squeeze into every available seat and step, so there is standing room only. The final Prime Minister’s Questions before the summer recess at the end of July was particularly well attended, being Theresa May’s first appearance at the Despatch Box as Prime Minister. She gave an impressive performance, her experience over the past six years in answering questions as Home Secretary clearly having prepared her well. She will be back next Wednesday when the Commons returns. Theresa May's appearance was particularly notable, as she has become only the second woman to stand at the Despatch Box as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in our nation’s history. I am proud both have been Conservative. Theresa May follows in the footsteps of Margaret Thatcher, the longest-serving PM of the 20 th Century. Encouragingly, women today are better represented in Parliament than ever before. There are currently 192 female MPs, being 29% of members of the House of Commons. Women comprise 36% of Theresa May's new Cabinet. The 2015 General Election continued the trend since 1966, with the exception of the 2001 Election, of returning an increasing number of female Members. Over 1,000 female candidates stood for Parliament in 2015, the highest ever number. This momentum has been achieved less than 100 years after women were first able to stand for Parliament, in 1918. While progress has been made, more must be done to get this number higher and encourage more women into Parliament. I am hopeful that the current high profile of female world leaders, including Theresa May and Angela Merkel will encourage more women and girls to consider standing for election. This November may see election of the first female President of the United States. This would be a powerful symbol to people the world over that there ought to be no limit to the aspiration of girls growing up. Other countries whose heads of government are currently women include Bangladesh, Norway, Namibia, Poland, and most recently Myanmar. It is still a small number. In the UK, initiatives such as Women2Win are providing support, advice and training to women who wish to enter Parliament. With two daughters myself, I feel strongly that girls should know their gender will not hold them back in life. This means tackling prejudice, removing barriers, and ensuring young girls have aspirational role models in public life. Within Parliament, a Professor of Gender and Politics at Bristol University, has been brought in for six months to address issues of women's inequality and develop a series of reforms that address existing insensitivities. An advisory board has been set up by the Speaker, with the outcome of this review due in coming months. From HM the Queen, to the new PM, to women in the cabinet, to peers, elected MPs, MEPs or Councillors in local government, there are inspirational women in politics whom girls in the Ludlow Constituency can respect and admire. I hope this trend will continue, and the contribution of women continues to enrich public life and our national dialogue.
