A Word From Gavin Williamson...............

Westminster seems to get lit up with Christmas lights earlier and earlier each year, which can only mean one thing, the countdown towards the festive season has already begun. Our thoughts will have already turned to our Christmas celebrations and the time we spend with our family, friends and neighbours during this special time of year. I am already looking forward to attending the wide array of festive celebrations that we have here in Codsall. There is something about Christmas that here in South Staffordshire that makes even the most Scrooge-like person done a Santa Hat and join in with the countless Christmas activities we have planned every year. Although Christmas is a time of reflection, it is also my busiest time of year attending Christmas light ceremonies and Christmas tree judging competitions to Christmas carol services, Christmas carol singing, Christmas dinners, Christmas drinks and the signing of 600 Christmas cards, the life of an MP is never still at this time of year. 2015 has been one of the busiest years since being elected as your Member of Parliament, with the election in May and the many local campaigns I have taken up on behalf of residents. It has been one of many challenges, but also many highlights, such as the victory in our campaign to save three fire stations across the constituency, including the station located in Codsall and Bilbrook and also meeting the Queen for the second time when I was made a Privy Counsellor back in May. This year I have also had the privilege to visit so many organisations that take care of those who need that little bit of extra support, especially during these winter months and I am so thankful for the invaluable work that they do. I would urge everyone in South Staffordshire to take some time to do the same. Every Christmas it is wonderful to so many Codsall residents come together in celebration of the festive season and I hope that you all have the most wonderful Christmas and wish you all the best for 2016.

PGA Golf Tips from Jeremy Nicholls at South Staffs Golf Club Academy..... Christmas Gift Guide For Golfers: As Christmas approaches, here are some gift ideas to help you find the correct gift for the golfing family and friends on your Christmas list. GOLF ACCESSORIES/ ATTIRE– The list can be endless here but good quality golf balls eg Srixon /Titleist are both popular brands, golfing jumpers and tee shirts, as well as a good quality waterproofs for those golfers who like to carry on playing through the winter. GOLF CLUBS-When buying a golf club nowadays a lot of clubs are tailor made to suit the individual golfer (custom fitted). Whether its a driver, set of irons or a putter make sure relevant information about the individual you are buying for is given eg height, handicap and age of the golfer. GOLF LESSONS – whether you’re a total beginner or an established golfer. A golf lesson can prove to be invaluable. A beginner learns the basic fundamentals of a correct golf swing which sets you on the right path to learning to play golf, or as an established player you can tweak your golf swing or work on other areas of your game that you wish to improve upon GOLF RANGE FINDER-for the more serious golfer are now proving very popular, as they give you the exact yardage from the tee or where your ball is lying on the fairway. This enables you to choose the correct club for the yardage given. I personally use the Bushnell range finder but the Garmin GPS wristwatch is also another suitable alternative. I hope the above gives you some help in choosing a gift suitable to your budget for the golfer in your family. I would finally like to wish you all “ A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year” from everyone at South Staffs Golf Club Academy and I look forward to seeing many of you practicing and playing golf at South Staffs Golf Club Academy over the Christmas holidays.
