A Word From Your MP It is the beginning of a brand new year and, still, the campaign continues on my fight to get the M54 re-surfaced with low noise tarmac. Last year, I held a debate in the House of Commons about the need for the M54 to be re-surfaced. While I accept that this is an issue that doesn’t affect many houses in Codsall and Bilbrook, it is an issue that I firmly believe needs addressing, Last year, when I raised the issue in the debate, the Roads Minister was not able to give me any reassurance other than ‘I hope to see it resurfaced in 10 years.’ That, for me, is not good enough so, in December 2012, I raised this issue again in the House of Commons, calling for the government to act more quickly. As a result of this, I have been able to secure a meeting with Roads Minister Stephen Hammond MP, where I will continue to press forward with presenting my constituents’ concerns. It is my belief that where Government builds major infrastructure, such as motorways, it is incumbent upon Government to do all it can to minimise the impact that this will have on people who have to live close by to these infrastructure developments. This is the point that I will be pressing when I meet with the Roads Minister. As Member of Parliament for South Staffordshire, it is my view that I should always be out campaigning to get the best deal for my constituents. I feel it is particularly important that everybody’s problems are addressed on an individual - as well as a group basis. The re-surfacing of the road with low noise tarmac is a serious issue for a number of residents and I will not flag in my efforts to secure them a quiet resolution. Grand Theatre Performance November 2012 saw some fabulous dancing and wonderful costumes from the Suttie School of Dance in their annual display at the Grand Theatre Wolverhampton. All ages took part from the youngsters of 3 to the adult tappers in a variety of routines in ballet, tap, acrobatics, disco and musical comedy. The show was a great night out for family and friends of the school and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The dancers themselves looked to be having a wonderful time on the stage and it must be a great experience for all involved. The Suttie School of Dance was formed in 1976, as part of the MASD association, by Carol who still teaches today together with her nieces Kay & Amy and other teachers and helpers. Classes are on a Saturday for the younger pupils at Holy Cross Church hall in Bilbrook and each year pupils take examinations and participate in the show at the Grand Theatre. Carol makes all of the stunning costumes for the dancers and that is some task with the number of pupils involved. Take along the advert on p3 to claim your first class free. For more information call Carol on 01902 398710 or email carol@suttieschoolofdance.co.uk or check out the website at www.suttieschoolofdance.co.uk

Tips from Your Local PGA Pro at Ledene Golf Centre Firstly I would like to wish all Codsall Pages Readers a very Happy and Prosperous New Year from everyone at Ledene Golf Centre. As many of you have probably not played much golf during the festive break and with the poor weather we have been experiencing, when you next come to practice you may find that your golf swing is a little bit out of sync and your ball striking not as precise as usual. So this month we are going to look at “Body Alignment” which is the positioning of the body, shoulders, hips and feet in relation to your intended target at the address position. It is important the shoulders are parallel to your target, as this is the direction the arms will swing across the front of the body, if the shoulders are pointing to the right of the target (closed position), the arms will swing in-to- out across the body during the downswing, depending on the club face angle into the ball this can lead to a hook or a push. If the shoulders are pointing to the left of target (open position), the arms will swing out-to-in across the body again depending on the club face angle into the ball this can lead to a slice or pull. So the shoulders are a key point at the address position to allow the club to swing on the correct path. If you are struggling to achieve the correct position in your set up you can use either 2 clubs from your bag or some alignment sticks that many professionals carry in their golf bag. • Firstly identify your target, take the first alignment stick/club and place it on the ground pointing directly to your target, this is known as your “target line” (ideally the direction you want the ball to travel in). • Now lay your second alignment stick/club on the ground in line with your feet. • If you take a step back these two sticks should resemble a train track , both running parallel to each other. • Now you need to position your body, shoulders, hips and feet parallel to that intended target. • Line up your feet, position both feet in a straight line to the ball, ensure shoulders, hips and knees are not twisted and are pointing straight like your feet. • Your body should now be positioned along with your club aiming and angled correctly to be delivered back to the ball so that the ball can travel on a straight and correct flight path. Hopefully if you work on your body alignment at the address position in your set up, this will help you with your ball striking and to hit the ball straighter. Best Wishes For the 2013 Golf Season.
