Leg Action in the Golf Swing This month we will look at the role of the legs which is an important component of the golf swing. Do not underestimate the role they play, they act as a support mechanism for your golf swing. Remembering the point they should be supportive rather than active. Too much leg movement will result in the upper body having to compensate which will lead to inconsistent shots. So lets look at how we can create a good platform for your swing. •At address ensure feet are shoulder width apart, knees slightly flexed, with knees pointing out towards the toes. •During the backswing retain the right knee flex as this will help the arms and club stay on the correct swing plane (path of the club). •The left foot stays planted as you start the downswing, this helps you start the downswing correctly and gives you extra power. •During the downswing do not let your legs drive towards the target, let them stay under your hips as you rotate into the impact and through to the finish.

The Friends of Bilbrook We are a small voluntary group whose aim is to improve open spaces in and around Bilbrook. Since forming in October 2011 we have planted over 1000 trees and over 1000 bulbs. We created a Jubilee Wood in commemoration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, members of the community, Air Cadets, Schools and local childcare groups helped with planting. We have built bird and owl boxes with Bilbrook Codsall Scouts and sited these along Moat Brook. We are part of Waterside Care and as such we monitor the water quality of the Moat Brook, and with the help of Bilbrook Middle School identify living things in and around the water. We carry out litter picks with the local community and school children using this as an opportunity to educate our young people about the consequences of littering. Our biggest project to date was to install a Multi Use Games Area on Joey’s Lane playing field which was officially opened by Gavin Williamson in November 14. This year we are working with London Midland and Codsall Community High School to give Bilbrook station a ‘facelift’. We are always looking for new members to help us in our endeavours so please come and join our friendly group. Make friends, enjoy the fresh air and support us in making Bilbrook a great place to live. You can look at our work on www.friendsofbilbrook.org and also contact us via enquiries@friendsofbilbrook.org

A Word From Gavin Williamson............... Last month I wrote about the early days of the campaign, the thousands of leaflets we were having to deliver as well as the mountains of pork pies that were fuelling us through the long days. Since returning to Parliament the Prime Minister has commented on how tanned I was looking after the campaign and I assured him that it was due to weeks of leafleting rather than sitting in the sun. As with everything, the end had to come and the final few days of the campaign saw my team and I getting out the last few leaflets and canvassing as many areas as possible. Polling Day began very early, with the team and I decorating South Staffordshire’s very own Conservative Battlebus in which I hoped to cover as much of the constituency as possible to get out the vote and visit as many Polling Stations in the constituency as possible before they closed at 10pm. Back in our Association Office we had a dedicated team of volunteers on the phones calling thousands of people to encourage them to go out and vote. The Count is one of the most nerve wracking experience for any politician to encounter. Seeing the votes being counted really does make you question if you have done enough to win, especially when the voter turnout had been reported to be 10% lower than the actual figure. By the early hours of the morning adrenaline levels and moral were high as we were seeing a number of fantastic results declared across the country, but it only made me want to know mine even more. After a nail biting recount of one of the boxes, the result was declared at 6.45am. I was ecstatic to discover that not only had I won, but we had one of the highest swings in the country from Labour to Conservative, one of the top increases in the Conservative vote, as well as growing our majority by almost 4,000 votes. There wasn’t much time to celebrate as I was due to head down to London an hour later to meet with the Prime Minister to listen to the final declarations come in and begin to organise the first Conservative majority government for eighteen years. I was so happy to hear that all of our District Councillors have retained their seats and we have welcomed 10 new candidates to the Conservative team. This is a fantastic result which will enable us to continue seeing the competent governance and low tax that we have come to expect from our Conservative led Council. After 6 long weeks on the campaign trail you will no doubt be pleased to see the last of my posters come down across the constituency. This success did not come easily and it is down to the support, hard work and generosity of the team of volunteers and the people of South Staffordshire that made it happen. Thank you for all your support I look forward to continuing to represent your views in Parliament.

At Smartkids we tailor the learning for our children so that we can develop truly independent learners. Our children come to us for tuition in all subjects; Computer Skills, Maths, English, SATs practice, 11+ tuition Languages and GCSE are just some of the subjects they study. We even run a homework club staffed by our qualified teachers. This not only helps the children, but is also great for their parents as it takes the stress away from them. We use computers to deliver our learning programmes. What makes us different is that many of our learners are working towards nationally recognised computer qualifications, and although many of them are still very young, they pass GCSE equivalent exams. With no exam nerves whatsoever, our success rate is 100%. All our learners are supported by “helpers”; older students who have passed their computer exams with us, and who now work as mentors for the younger ones. We also specialise in helping children with learning difficulties. Although they love learning, they often come because they find school frustrating and at Smartkids they can learn in a relaxed environment with teachers who understand their needs. To quote one of our children “I really love coming here because it’s so fun that it doesn’t feel like you’re learning but you are really!” See Advert on p10 for more information
