A Word From Your MP One of the most devastating things that can happen to any family or individual is for someone to lose their job. This not only puts massive pressure on the person who has become unemployed, but also on their family and friends, who will quite obviously be concerned for their wellbeing. It was for this reason that I was so pleased to be able to help when asked by South Staffordshire District Council if I could lend a hand in organising a Jobs Fayre, to take place in Perton. The event wouldn’t just be for people in Perton, but for the whole of South Staffordshire. I think it is vitally important that we do all that we can to drive down unemployment. In South Staffs, we are lucky that our unemployment rate is almost half that of the West Midlands average, with the number of unemployed continuing to fall quickly. That, however, is little consolation for the person who can’t get a job. I was given the task of trying to get businesses to come and exhibit at the Jobs Fayre and I was able to secure the likes of Jaguar Land Rover, G4S, Veolia, McCain and Severn Trent. These were all businesses that had well paid and good jobs on offer, and which employed people who I wanted to put in touch with my constituents. I later heard that more than 400 visitors attended the fair, making the most of the opportunity to meet with local employers and find out more about any training, apprenticeship or job opportunities. It was fantastic to see so many people turn up for the event and the atmosphere on the day was extremely positive. I have little doubt that the fair provided a big boost to both businesses and jobs in the local area. There were also three 20-30 minute workshops held throughout the day on the topics of starting up a business, CVs and interview techniques and volunteering. These appeared to be extremely popular with attendees and did much to contribute towards the event’s overall success. The whole day was a testament to what can be achieved if local businesses, residents and organisations work together. I would particularly like to thank staff at South Staffordshire Council for all the hard work that they put in to coordinating the event. I wish everyone who attended the day - both visitors and prospective employers - the best of luck with their search and hope that they have formed connections that will play a significant role in their long term future success. Tips from Your Local PGA Pro at Ledene Golf Centre PUTTING THE CONVENTIONAL WAY This week it was announced that from January 1st 2016 anchoring putters (belly and long putters) would be banned from competition. The ban is causing great debate between the players as several of the last major championships have been won by players using the belly or long putter. Seemingly long putters can still be used as long as players freely swing the club away from their body. The ban is supported by many top professional golfers like Mcllory and Woods who was quoted as saying “I just believe that the art of putting is swinging the club and controlling the nerves” “We swing all the other 13 clubs. I think the putter should be the same”. So I thought it would be topical to cover an article on the conventional putting stroke using a 33-35” putter that many of us are familiar with and use when we play golf. Putting is a key element in your golf game, but how often do we practice it. This month i am going to give you some simple advice that will hopefully improve your putting stoke. • Firstly stand behind your ball and survey the line of your putt, decide which line you want your ball to start down. • Use the graphics or your own personal markings on the ball as a guide to the intended line you wish the ball to travel. • Place your putter behind the ball ensuring the centre line on your putter is in line with the graphics on your ball. This will help you to start the ball down the correct line towards the hole. • When you are satisfied with this, ensure your body alignment of shoulders hips and feet are parallel to your intended target, with your ball positioned just inside your left heel and your left eye directly over the ball. • Now with your shoulders, arms and hands comfortably relaxed, maintaining the “V” shape formed by your forearms, wrists and hands, use the shoulders to pull the putter back. The putting stroke should be guided by your arms and shoulders using a gentle rocking action (like the pendulum on a clock). • Your head should remain still, along with your knees, hips and body, the only movement coming from your shoulders. It should all move as one with your hands staying as passive as possible. • Ensure that your backstroke is about the same length or slightly shorter than the follow through. Your forward stroke should accelerate in a single smooth motion. • Remember do not decelerate, make sure your wrists stay firm throughout your stroke. Practice this and hopefully you will start to hole more putts.

A Few Words from Pete @ PC Clinic Running your own small business has many benefits but also many pitfalls. The one that surprises me most is the sheer amount of work and cost associated with keeping your image and brand in front of potential customers. During most days I get at least one if not more phone calls asking me to advertise in this or that publication and emails by the dozen about using a service to promote my business on the web. According to whichever publication or online service I'm talking to they are the No1, "more people use this ...", "Did you know we go to over xx homes in your neighbourhood". Based on these assertions you could quite literally spend all of your business income on promotions. Of course I may never see any of it back and my campaigns would be short lived but wide in coverage. Still I find that despite all of the publicity hype and careful tracking that more of my business comes from good solid recommendation. Customers tell other customers and that is still the best form of advertising in a local community. PC Clinic is a local company with a comprehensive network of support. We deliver good solid value with complete after care and our customers appreciate it. You can see some of our customer feedback on our website. We like to help you get more out of your existing technology, reduce your costs and deliver that local service that add extra value. For instance we give free talks on a range of computer use and other technology matters such as computer security and cloud computing. In addition to this we have found that accompanying customers on shopping trips helps them feel more confident in their purchases and hence more comfortable using it when they get home. If you'd like to come to one of free talks and learn a bit more about how to benefit from technology, give us a call and see what we've got going on. For the team and I here at PC Clinic, we believe the most important thing in running your own business is trust from your customers, a positive reputation and a local friendly face. A quick note on passwords as it’s one of the most common questions we’re asked, if you find remembering them confusing try something like this:- Object-Place-Activity = Ferrari-Basildon-Building... where each word means something to you but separated by hyphen (-) increases the security but the phrase means something to you. Obviously change the words to something that’s relevant to you and stay safe.
