PGA Golf Tips from Jeremy Nicholls at South Staffs Golf Club Academy..... Using a Fade During a round whether your a tournament professional or a club golfer playing in a medal round you will come under pressure at some point in the round when compiling a good score, so its useful to have a stock shot that you can revert to. Its easier to fade the ball as opposed to trying to draw it, since there’s a tendency to “hold onto” the clubface longer whilst trying to execute a draw. (right to left ball flight) Therefore to hit the fade: •Picture in your mind a left to right ball flight •Aim the club face at your intended target. •Then aim your body alignment, shoulders, hips and feet slightly left of your intended target. •Let the arms and club swing along the body alignment created at the address. •As you swing the club head through impact keep the logo on the back of your glove hand pointing at the target a little longer than normal. •This delays the release of your right hand long enough to ensure that the ball starts slightly left of your intended target. Our Golf Tips evening on the range will start again on Monday November 2nd and 23rd. (6.00-7.00pm) Codsall Pages readers are welcome to attend for more information on their golf swing.

A Word From Gavin Williamson............... One experience that not many Members of Parliaments can lay claim to is working in the manufacturing industry. Manufacturing is incredibly important to South Staffordshire, with twice the number of people working in manufacturing in the area than the national average. Since 2010, I have been campaigning, to put a greater focus on manufacturing and bringing more jobs to South Staffordshire, notably with the successful JLR engine manufacturing plant in Bilbrook. During the last decade we have seen a sad decline in the manufacturing industries. This dreadful erosion of our manufacturing business has led to a fall in the standing of this country, our ability to weather economic storms and provide good quality jobs for our young people. The West Midlands was the birthplace of the first industrial revolution and it is the place where, if ever we hope to see another manufacturing and industrial revolution occur again, it needs to be started. Recently I had the pleasure of accompanying pupils from Codsall High School to the Education Business Partnership Centre at the Jaguar Land Rover factory at the i54 park in Bilbrook, where students learned how they could follow a career in engineering and business. I think that it is wonderful that companies such as JLR are providing this vital career advice to encourage young people from South Staffordshire to pursue jobs in this important field, especially with the proud local heritage that we share in manufacturing. The new £650,000 centre gave pupils the chance to see the inner workings of the factory and gain a greater understanding of how engines are made. The Centre uses a fantastic range of cutting-edge technologies such as a holographic table to show how engines are manufactured. As a father of two daughters, who I am encouraging that being engineers is absolutely the right career for them, I thought it was fantastic to see how many girls were interested in a future with JLR. Opportunities like this will not only attract talented young people to become the next generation of engineers but also support our manufacturers here in Bilbrook. During my Question and Answer sessions during the election, the topic of the decline in manufacturing was brought up numerous times by concerned residents. One wise constituent told me that “a country that doesn’t produce anything isn’t worth anything,” and he is exactly right. We should be doing everything we can to promote manufacturing in our country and brilliant initiatives like these are a great first step in doing so.
