The 25th Pattingham Bells Run takes place in October. This year is very special for the Pattingham Bells Run as it is the 25th. This very popular event which is a 7 mile offroad, multi-terrain race around the beautiful countryside of South Staffordshire, takes place on Sunday 12th October 2014, starting at 11.00 am from the Village Hall Playing fields in Pattingham. The first run back in 1990, was organised to raise money to replace the old wooden bell frame in the belfry of St. Chad's church in Pattingham, near Wolverhampton. Because of its popularity, the run has continued over the years and now is a respected event in the running world with around 700 runners taking part. This year's entry fees for the main race are ÂŁ12.00 for UKA affiliated club runners and ÂŁ14.00 for non-club runners. The closing date for advance entries is the 3rd October. Entry on the day is permitted at a fee of ÂŁ20.00 for all runners. The race will be limited to the first 1000 runners. All main race finishers will receive a specially designed '25th' Bells Run Brass to mark this unique event, together with the popular fruit cake slice and a hot drink. Online entry is also available together with the advance entry forms which can be obtained by downloading a copy from the Pattingham Church website under the link 'Bells Run' at www.pattingham-church.org 4

A Word From Your MP......... This month saw the Scottish Independence Referendum, a choice for the Scots to vote whether they wanted their country to remain as part of the United Kingdom, or break the Union and become independent. After the result was announced, that Scotland was to remain part of the Union, the Prime Minister commented that it was now the time for the voices of English people to be heard. It is fundamental that we change the system, allowing only English votes for English laws. Scotland have had the chance to have their say and now it’s time for ours. It is crucial that MPs of English constituencies have control over tax, welfare and spending. With 97% of Scots registered to vote and a turnout of over 84%, this was the single biggest democratic movement in modern UK history. I think it is incredible that so many Scots of all ages were involved with the referendum. For the first time in the UK, 16 and 17 year olds had the opportunity to vote. Teenagers went to polling stations in their school uniforms, eager to have a say on their country’s future. I think it’s fantastic that so many young people were so determined to get involved. They are, after all, the future of our country, so to experience such an important political moment will be invaluable to shape their political opinions. This was a day that everyone will remember, regardless of whether they were ‘yes’ or ‘no’. The result, for our four countries to stay together, was the right decision, but now it’s time for changes to be made. It was wonderful to see such an amazing turnout and I hope that the nation’s enthusiasm for politics, whether it be local or national, will not fade before the next election. Renting? You Need A Mid-Term Inspection ...... At Redstones, we recommend that all of our landlords carry out a mid-
term inspection on their rental properties. As short-term tenancy agreements are generally six months long, mid-term inspections are typically carried out after three months. For some of our clients this seems unnecessary after such a relatively short time, but lettings do occasionally go wrong. Horror stories aside, here are more reasons to carry out that mid-term inspection:Review the inventory: In our experience, visiting your property half way through the tenancy ensures that it is being looked after properly. It will also provide you with the opportunity to review the condition of items listed on the initial inventory report. The inventory provides detailed information on all fixtures, fittings and décor provided by the landlord at the commencement of the tenancy agreement. Maintenance check: Occasionally, mid-term inspections will reveal maintenance work that needs to be carried out, such as, minor repairs to fixtures and fittings or damp and mould that may need treating. Landlords who care for their property and attend to issues promptly generally enjoy more positive relationships with their tenants who in turn are more likely to take better care of your property. Find out what’s really happening : Busy landlords who decide to manage their own property often neglect to carry out background checks or vet their tenants, leading to potential problems as the tenancy progresses. Frequent problems arising from tenants falling into this category include:Damage to fixtures and fittings, such as door frames, skirting boards and so on. Failure to discover any significant damage until the end of a tenancy agreement means you risk losing one or two months’ rental income as you arrange for repairs to be carried out. Gardens filled with rubbish. Pets being kept in properties with a ‘no pets’ clause. While this clause is common in some areas, surveys suggest that the number of London based landlords allowing their tenants to keep pets has risen by around 75% in recent years. Tenants who cause disturbances or problems with their neighbours. Properties that have been sub-let. Additional people living at the property without notification. Smoking in a non-smoking property. Without a mid-term inspection, landlords may not be aware of any problems until the damage is extensive. Enable you to make a decision on renewal : With the growing number of private rental properties in the UK, the trends is moving towards longterm tenancies. Finding a reliable, long-term tenant is every landlord’s dream but the only way to assess their potential is to carry out a mid-term inspection, especially during those first six months. Build a positive relationship with your tenant : A tenant who treats your property with respect and pays your rent on time is worth keeping hold of. Your mid-term inspection will be able to assess whether your tenant falls into this category. At Redstones, we offer a fully managed property service to our landlords which includes carrying out the mid-term inspection at a mutually convenient time with your tenant. Once the inspection is completed, we provide a detailed assessment of the condition of your property together with recommendations for any necessary maintenance and highlighting potential causes for concern.

The award winning Goldthorn Theatre Company presents it’s next production – ‘Out Of Order’ – a truly hilarious comedy by the master of fast moving theatrical fun, Ray Cooney. When Richard Willey, a Government Junior Minister plans to spend the evening with the attractive Jane Worthington, one of the Opposition’s typists, things go disastrously wrong, beginning with the discovery of a ‘body’ trapped in the hotel’s unreliable window. He sends for his PPS George Pigden who, through Richard’s lies, sinks further and further into trouble and ends up going through an identity crisis! Things go from bad to worse with the arrival of Ronnie, Jane’s distraught husband, and with the addition of an unscrupulous waiter, Mrs. Willey, Nurse Foster, a confused maid and the hotel manager, the play moves at a crackling pace with laughs all the way. This very funny offering won the Olivier Award for Comedy of The Year. It’s being performed at The Royal School, Wolverhampton Theatre, Goldthorn Road, WV2 4PJ, from Wednesday to Saturday, October 22nd. to 25th at 7.30m. For tickets, priced £7.50, call the box office on 01902 763089.

PGA Golf Tips from Jeremy Nicholls at Ledene Golf Centre..... Club Face and Body Alignment One of the key component to hitting straight Golf shots is the club face angle and body alignment being parallel to your target when addressing the ball. You will find if your body is too open (left) to your target you will mainly hit a pull or a slice. likewise If the body is to closed (right) you will hit a hook or a push. When practicing on the range •Firstly identify your target, take an alignment stick or a club and place it on the ground pointing directly to your target, this is known as your “target line” (ideally the direction you want the ball to travel in). •Now lay your second alignment stick/club on the ground in line with your feet. Your shoulders and hips should also run parallel to this line. •If you take a step back these two sticks should resemble a train track, both running parallel to each other. •Your club face angle with the shoulders, hips, and feet should now be positioned correctly allowing the ball to start on its correct path towards your target. •Remember the longer you keep the club face angle working down the target line, the greater the chance the ball has on reaching its intended target.
