Tips from Your Local PGA Pro One of the key points to a fluid golf swing is to have the correct posture at the address position. Ensure your feet are shoulder width apart, then bend forward from the hips, your weight should not be to forward on your toes or back on your heels, but the weight should be evenly distributed on the balls of your feet, this will give you a good solid base to work from. With the knees slightly flexed and the arms hanging comfortably from the shoulders, you will be in a good position to make a start to your back swing. A good posture is important to every club in your bag, taking into account the shorter clubs, the spinal angle will be tilting more forwards, with the spinal angle feeling more vertical when using the longer clubs. Hopefully if you practice this simple routine on the range you will start to see the benefits when you go on the course.

A Word From Your MP It has been quite hard with the unreliable weather to appreciate that the summer is here but luckily we have had the Olympics and the Jubilee Celebrations to keep our spirits up and take our mind off the relentless rain. It really was truly brilliant to see Team GB rising up the leader board. I think the Olympics will stay fondly in everyone’s memories and ensure that the Summer of 2012 is one that we always remember. I have to say that one of the things that has struck me most since becoming a Member of Parliament is that I often feel that I am able to make a greater contribution when I spend time in the constituency. I really appreciate the opportunity to get out and about in South Staffordshire to see what is going on first hand. When the House returns I am able to raise all the concerns that I have picked upon during my time spent with everyone. This summer in particular I have noticed just how many volunteering opportunities are available locally and I have been trying to highlight as many of these as possible. Most recently I helped out at the Halfpenny Green Owl and Falconry Centre for. This is a not for profit organisation who rely on the support of regular volunteers and would love more people to get involved in helping to care for the birds. Cleaning perches and birdbaths and seeing the newly hatched chicks was a real learning experience but it is a really great feeling when you are supporting an organisation as well as having a good time. I have especially enjoyed becoming involved with the Watery Lane Allotments in Codsall recently. Whilst touring them it was really pleasing to see how well kept they all were. It is very obvious to see all the time and effort that the committee has put into making this site a real asset for the village and the surrounding area. I first visited them two years ago and it is amazing to see how the hard work of volunteers has really improved the allotments with the creation of new wildlife areas, the improvement of the riverbanks and most importantly the provision of new allotment plots. During my recent visit the Largest Sunflower Competition was launched which I soon discovered involved me climbing ladders to measure them. I hope that you will be pleased to hear that despite the vast height of the sunflowers I emerged with no broken limbs and my neck is still intact. You can’t ever say that the role of an MP is not varied! It was really enjoyable to admire the work that has gone into the allotments. One of the great joys of recess is visiting people and seeing first hand and being able to support all the fantastic projects and hard work going on in South Staffordshire. If you are looking for another interest this summer I cannot advocate getting involved in local organisations strongly enough. To contact me call 01902 701479 or 0207 219 7150
