We LOVE Pilates... Following the launch of a new Body Control Pilates Studio in Codsall, we speak to owner and trainer Lucy McBride to find out more about a form of exercise that many celebrities swear by... Who is Pilates suitable for? Pilates is for everyone – no matter what age, how flexible you are or your level of fitness, you can reap its benefits. It is one of the only exercise programs that doesn't discriminate between weight, age, strength or flexibility. What results can you expect from Pilates? Pilates is all about developing the perfect balance of strength & flexibility; but helps with posture and body tone along the way. How is it different to other forms of exercise, like yoga? Pilates was developed in the 20 th and draws on the most effective features of a variety of practices; including yoga, self-defence, weight training, skiing and even circus training. I’m not sure group exercise is for me – can I still do Pilates? Absolutely – you can book private classes for some oneto-one tuition until you are confident enough in your abilities to join a class suitable for your level.

Tips from Your Local PGA Pro at Ledene Golf Centre STARTING THE BACKSWING CORRECTLY. This month we are going to look at the setting the position of the club halfway during the back swing. The sole purpose of the backswing is to position the club correctly at the top of your swing, aligning it accurately to allow the hands, arms, and club to swing back down the correct swing path into the ball. A good way to achieve this correct position is by using a one piece takeaway:•Check your posture at the address position (see previous article). •As you start your backswing remember your shoulders, arms and club move together creating a one piece takeaway. To ensure this visualise a triangle from your grip on the club, arms and shoulders, this should all move as a single unit. •Keep the club head low to the ground for 12-18 inches this helps create width in your swing. •A good visual position at the midway point of your back swing, is that the butt end of the club should be pointing to your intended target, club shaft parallel to the ball-target line and directly over the toe line. The toe of the club should be pointing Slightly in and the club head inline with the hands. This is known as the square position and is NON NEGOTIABLE! •Maintain your width during the back swing and you will soon see the benefits and gain a free flowing golf swing. So keep in mind that the start of the back swing is a precision movement, it is not meant to be done with speed or force, it is accomplished slowly and with accuracy, so that the hands, arms, and club move in the correct sequence allowing the club to reach the correct position at the top of your back swing.

A Word From Your MP One of the highlights of my summer to date has been getting to spend time with several of my younger constituents. Over the past couple of months, we have welcomed 13 work experience students between my Codsall and Westminster offices. I was incredibly impressed by the calibre of the students, who were willingly taking time out of their summer holidays to shadow me, their local MP. While we have been offering placements for local students for a number of years now, we only set up an official scheme – driven partially by the high volume of applicants – in April, this year. Details of how to apply are currently available on my website at: www.gavinwilliamson.org Not every MP takes on work experience students, but it is something that matters a lot to me. I was first inspired to become an MP when I took a school trip to Parliament. I therefore know how important personal experience can be in helping us to determine what we want to do in life. I really hope that this new scheme will provide young people in South Staffordshire with the opportunity to learn more about politics and enable them to find out firsthand what is involved in being an MP. In addition to learning about their MP’s daily duties and office operation, the students are invited to take part in a broad range of activities. When Parliament is in session, the Westminster-based work experience students are given the opportunity to watch proceedings in the Chamber or be present at an open Committee session. During the Summer Recess - taking place now - work experience students in Codsall are able to accompany me as I go about my constituency duties, attending non-confidential meetings and making visits to local residents and businesses. These visits and community activities make up a large part of my weekly routine, both during recess and, to a lesser extent, when Parliament is in session. Indeed, I will be helping out behind the bar at some point during the upcoming Codsall Station Beer Festival, this September. Just come on down to The Codsall Station pub for the chance of being served a pint of real ale by yours truly. To contact me call 01902 846616 or 0207 219 7150
