A Word From Your MP Last month in the House of Commons I pledged my support for two key infrastructure projects in Wolverhampton the regeneration of Wolverhampton City Centre as a cultural capital, and the completion of the second phase of the Wolverhampton Interchange Project. The plans, which were launched earlier this year form part of the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnerships economic vision for the Black Country. The completion of the Interchange Project and the Regeneration of the City Centre will have huge benefits for Wolverhampton, making a real difference to the city and supporting growth in key sectors such as high value manufacturing and the arts. We need to continue our journey building a better future for people who live in Wolverhampton, creating even more jobs and opportunities. I will do all I can to see that these two projects receive the funding they need. The completion of the interchange has been a long time coming, but I believe that by working together we can achieve this. Turning to Government, we are looking for a £5m grant supporting a £20m investment to transform Wolverhampton city centre. This would include a major refurbishment and extension of the Civic Halls, coupled with adaptations to the Grand Theatre. This investment will help stimulate further public and private investment in the city centre, creating more jobs and stimulating the evening economy. Completing stage 2 of the Wolverhampton Interchange Project will see the refurbishment of the existing railway station and the multistorey car park relocated and extended. The Midland Metro would also be extended to serve the new railway station and recently completed bus station. Wolverhampton is renowned for its cultural and artistic venues. Building on this foundation, we can develop Wolverhampton into the cultural capital of the Black Country – attracting even bigger artists, groups and production to the city. It is my ambition to see the development of a cultural calendar to rival any other city in the UK.
