You can't take the appropriate steps to improving the quality of your iron strikes until you know the nature of your mishits. So here's a simple way to find out... and put the wheels of better ball striking in motion. Improve your ball striking: The foundation of solid iron play is consistent ball striking. Find the sweetspot regularly and you give your iron shots penetration, power and distance control. We all struggle with this from time to time, but the good news is you don't have to rip your swing apart to get it back on track. Take the tape test: Before you can hatch a plan to improve your striking, you mus first know where you're missing the centre of the club. Simply stick some duct tape to the face of your 6-iron. Now hit no fewer than 10 shots. Impact marks on the tape show exactly which part of the face is making contact with the ball. Your problem could be rooted in swing or equipment issues. Either way the first step to beating it is to know your miss. The next step is to take advantage of our extensive knowledge of equipment, fitting and swing technique to find the solution. We'll be delighted to help. Give me a call 01902 380073 opt 1 for the best advice.

New computers for Tamar Medical Centre! It’s going to be all change at Tamar Medical Centre this summer! Over the next few months the practice which is based in Severn Drive, Perton will be moving onto a new clinical computer system. The ‘go live’ date is expected to be the end of August/beginning of September. Dr Grewal from Tamar Medical says ‘Changing clinical systems will allow the practice to improve services for patients. It means we will be able to introduce things like booking appointments online and online prescriptions. Work has already started on the transition but there will be a very short period of a few days around the ‘go live’ date when the practice will be without any computers. We may be asking patients to bear with us but in the long run this is a good move for the practice.’ For more information about the change, or to find out more about the practice, please contact reception on 01902 755053.

Wild About Perton in June Warm June evenings when the light lingers late always brings back memories of standing patiently waiting in the long grass of a Staffordshire common. Not this time for the pipestrelle bats which begin their night time patrols just as the light drops. Nor for the surprised badger which trundles towards us, snorts in surprise and then disappears fast into the trees. Nor for the ‘wart wart’ sound of the woodcock flying just above the treetops. Nor for the night flying moths which flitter between the grasses. Nor for the silent swoop of the tawny owl which has just spent an hour waiting patiently in a tree for a bank vole to move in the long grass below. It’s just after 11 o’clock and we’re beginning to lose patience. The sun has dropped below the horizon but the sky is still blue. We begin to tease open the grass and look urgently under the nearby scrub for our quarry. Is there something there? No it’s another moth. Is that….no it’s the golden yellow leaves of the lady’s bedstraw reflecting the moonlight. And then as the sky turns to dark blue we spot one small faint cold light. And then there is another and then more and in the next hour we find another hundred spots of magical golden green light. As the sky turns black the light becomes intense but does not illuminate. We all become very excited. It’s been worth the wait; we’re in the presence of glow-worms Not worms but a wingless beetle which as larvae have fed exclusively on snails. Only the female glows with its shining abdomen curled upwards to attract a mate and once the flying male beetle finds a glowing female the light goes out and the rest is nature. Why not join us for one of our monthly wildlife walks which leave Perton Library at 2PM on the first Saturday of every month. Perhaps one day we’ll find a glow worm in Perton.

A Word From Your MP The sun takes its hat off and the daisies stand to attention. Children peer up at their parents with hopeful eyes. It is that time of year again: carnival season. Having an excuse – not that, if I am honest, I really need it – to visit local carnivals is one of the best parts of my job. This year, I got stuck in with glee, helping out at the Win a Bottle stand, manfully lugging around a bucket to collect money for the Carnival Fundraising Committee and watching the grand carnival procession (where the Queen was driven in a Morris Minor convertible). I also spent a significant amount of time hovering ‘helpfully’ at my own stand, trying to convince people to come over and talk to me. I always like to have a stand at local carnivals, as it is a great opportunity to meet constituents and chat through any concerns that they might have. Often, these are issues that they would never think to contact me about if left to their own devices. I have always liked the saying ‘no news is good news.’ Sadly, when working as an MP, this is not always the case. In fact, I have noticed that much ‘bad news’ will often go entirely undiscovered unless you actively seek it out. Perhaps this is the British stiff upper lip, that deep embarrassment we all experience on making a complaint or, maybe, it is simply that as a nation we can be extremely self sufficient. Don’t get me wrong, in any given month I receive hundreds of letters and e-mails from constituents seeking help with a wide range of matters. However, I am also highly aware that for every letter I receive, there are possibly two that never get sent. It is for this reason that I have started sending out surveys to determine the issues that most affect local residents in any given area. Perton residents, I delighted to be able to reveal, will be receiving a survey over the coming few months. I would urge you all to respond if you can make the time, as it is a great opportunity to highlight the issues that matter most to you and to inform me of the concerns that I need to take up on your behalf. If you have any specific concerns that you would like to raise with me, you can contact me by e-mailing: gavin@gavinwilliamson.org or by writing to my constituency office at: Gavin Williamson MP, Jubilee House, 59 Wolverhampton Road, Codsall, WV8 1PL I also hold regular surgeries, should there be anything that you would like to talk through in person. Details are available on my website and you can book an appointment by contacting my constituency office on: 01902 846616. To contact me call 01902 846616 or 0207 219 7150

Words of Wisdom from Rev Julia Cody The title “Words of Wisdom” was not my idea… and as I sit at my computer with the print deadline a few hours’ away, I’m struggling to find any words, let alone words of wisdom! We’re going away tomorrow and consequently I’m trying to get numerous pieces of work done, against the clock even more than usual! None of my usual tricks for inspiration have worked. I’ve even found myself talking on the phone when dog-walking in order to catch-up with calls - hardly the break in the day I usually enjoy! What has come to mind, however, are some words of Jesus “do not worry about tomorrow, it will have enough worries of its own”…true, but perhaps not very encouraging! But, Jesus also says, “do not be worried about the food and drink you need in order to stay alive, or about clothes. Look at the birds: they do not plant seeds, gather a harvest and put it in barns, yet your Father in heaven takes care of them! Aren’t you worth much more than birds? Can any of you live a bit longer by worrying?” This reminds me of a phrase from the Lord’s Prayer:“give us today our daily bread”, in other words, please God give us what we need for today - not for tomorrow; not more than we need; rather, what we need for today. Help us not to worry about tomorrow. Hmmm… words of wisdom not from me, but from Jesus.
