A Word From Your MP In welcoming the New Year I believe we have many reasons to be positive in Wolverhampton. We have had a year of growth and nationally we are seeing a rise in employment. At the moment there are 60 000 more people in work in the West Midlands than there were when the Conservatives came to power in 2010. That’s 60 000 more people getting a regular pay packet, giving them the chance to give themselves and their family a more secure future. There is also positive news on youth unemployment with the number of young people not in education, employment or training at it's lowest level for a decade. This government recognises the corrosive nature of youth unemployment which is why we have seen an expansion in apprentices and start up loans. Just last month I visited a new company run by a young Wulfrunian who benefited from a start up loan. I hope that this is a new trend within the city, where we encourage entrepreneurship and help people starting up on their own. This year in Wolverhampton I am excited to welcome Jaguar Land Rover to the city along with the return of world leading manufacturing to the city. The new JLR engine plant at the i54 enterprise park will be a flagship factory for the company which sees a £355 million investment and the creation of up to 750 new skilled jobs. Of course there is still more to do, but these figures show that the Conservative’s long-term plan to fix the economy is working in Wolverhampton, getting people off benefits and into work, and delivering a more secure future for people who want to work hard and get on in life. As always I will continue to endeavour in working in both the interests of you, my constituents and those of the City of Wolverhampton. I wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year
To contact me call 01902 712 134 or email at paul.uppal.mp@parliament.uk Harlequin Pantomime Productions Present: ROBIN HOOD (the way it really happened). Harlequin Pantomime Productions are putting on their latest all-singing, all dancing, all slapstick comedy: "Robin Hood" on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 21st - 25 January, at Perton Civic Centre. This is the seventh annual pantomime that this company has produced, and all previous shows have been sell-out successes, with them winning the prestigious National Operatic and Dramatic Association's (NODA's) award in 2010, 2011, and 2012, for the best regional amateur pantomime. The aim of the company has always been to produce a professionalquality pantomime that is fun for all the family and which the local community and surrounding area can enjoy and afford. The organisation is a "not-for-profit" company and a major part of its' work is to support local charities, mainly for children. Possibly the most popular and entertaining character in any panto, of course, is the Dame. Harlequin is proud to have, as its' President, one of the most talented and experienced Dames in the area. He (she!) really is a superb Dame, and gives a comedy performance not to be missed. But he is only one of a really excellent and vastly talented cast, who are a joy to see perform. This is why the shows are a sell out year after year, or is it all those gorgeous, leggy young dancing girls? Oh Yes it Is! Incidentally, the age range of the cast is from four to seventy, amazingly. The company also boasts a great Musical Director, who provides, with his talented musician friends, the excellent live backing for the shows. He, together with the Director, the Producer, the Choreographer, the back-stage and technical team, and the Front-of-House management team produce a wonderful show full of the magic of live theatre - a great-value joyful night of family entertainment not to be missed. One of the many highlights of the night is the superb lighting, which would grace any professional show.So to the details: for tickets ring the ticket secretary on 01902 678242, or write to her at 18 Avington Close, Sedgley, Dudley DY3 3LN. Tickets cost £7 a head, except for Saturday evening which is £9. Also on Saturday there is a matinee performance at 2.30pm, while the evening performances are at 7.30pm. As a Special Offer you can have two free tickets if you organise a group of ten paying. There is ample free parking, of course. Why not give it a try - You won't be disappointed!!!
