David Cameron’s public admission of his families tax planning arrangements have brought the whole issue of what’s legal, what’s illegal, and what’s morally correct fully into the headlights as the hot topic of discussion for this article. Let’s be honest here, nobody wants to pay more tax than they are legally obliged to pay, so the whole moral issue of what’s right and wrong is really down to personal choice. Some people think that having worked hard all their lives that taxing our pensions, our savings and finally our family homes and goods on death is a very harsh system. Others believe that the more tax everyone pays the less the burden is on the state to look after everyone who is less fortunate than those who have wealth. My Job as an independent financial adviser and wealth manager, is to show people what steps can be taken to reduce or even eliminate the tax burden on their wealth, help them to manage the investments that they have (in a tax efficient and safe way), to set up the trusts and other arrangements that help to protect you and your family, and finally to help you to manage this throughout your life. The Inheritance Tax issue is especially touchy as so many people really don’t understand how much they can own before the tax becomes an issue, how much they can give away, how much tax should be paid on lifetime gifts, Wills and will planning, and lastly but most importantly how to retain control of your money and still be able to have effective tax planning in place to mitigate your liability. Most advisers will tell you the basics about the fact that you have a £325,000 nil rate allowance, the fact that gifts made to family or friends should not exceed £3,000 to any one person and any number of gifts of £125.00 to anyone you like, the fact that you can make gifts over the £3,000 but the donor (the person making the gift) must live seven years before the gift becomes free of all IHT. How many will mention Business Property relief arrangements using AIM shares to mitigate the tax within two years not seven. How many will be qualified to discuss Gift and Loan trusts, Bare Trusts and Family Trusts, and be able to advise you on which is the best for you? AT FSC Investment Services Limited we have developed a strategic planning approach to IHT which we can prove will suit all people and all sizes of estate. If you are concerned that you and your family have Inheritance Tax problems then please give us a call and we will be happy to arrange an initial no cost non obligation meeting to show you how we work, explain the costs and benefits of each arrangement and then you will be properly informed and able to make the right decision for you and your family. PGA Golf Tips from Jeremy Nicholls at South Staffs Golf Club Academy..... Club Face and Body Alignment A basic fundamental to helping you hit straight golf shots is the club face angle and body alignment being parallel to your target when addressing the ball. If for instance you are slicing the ball don’t aim left of the target to compensate for a slice because you are just compounding the fault, likewise if you hooking the ball do not set up to the right of the target as again this just exaggerates the fault . To correct these faults: • When practicing Firstly identify your target, take an alignment stick or a club and place it on the ground pointing directly at your target, this is known as your “target line” . • Now lay your second alignment stick/club on the ground in line with your feet. Your shoulders and hips should also run parallel to this line. • If you take a step back these two sticks , should both be running parallel towards your intended target. • Your club face angle with the shoulders, hips, and feet should now be positioned correctly which will allow the club to travel on a better path into the ball. • Finally be aware of the ball position at address inside your left heel with your woods, middle of the stance with your irons.
