PERTON CARNIVAL 2015 NEW VENUE- the centre of Perton NEW PARADE ROUTE- Gainsborough Drive to Severn Drive This year Perton Carnival will have a new venue, the centre of Perton, where the public will have free admission for the first time. Sainsbury's have kindly given permission for the use of the pedestrian area and South Staffs District Council for the use of the green area next to the Library. Local organisations and charity support groups are bringing their fund-raising stalls and local businesses are also invited to attend. There will be fairground attractions, including a Giant Slide, Bungee Run, Roundabout, Laser Quest, Rodeo Bull and candyfloss. The Wrottesley Arms pub will be the stage venue, with a barbecue and outside bar. West Midlands Classic Cars will be on the pub car park with the First Responders. The Civic Centre will host Picklelily, the magician and refreshments. Stalls will be in The Church At Perton. The Parade will start from the Pavilion car park on Gainsborough Drive beginning at 12 noon., turning left on the Parkway, then right into Severn Drive at the second entrance. MP Gavin Williamson will again judge the floats. We would like to have more entries this year so invite groups of friends, charity supporters and neighbours to enter. Previously we have had people decorating cars, pushchairs and even mobility scooters. We hope to see a good turnout again for our village's largest event and ask for donations so that this important fundraiser for our local organisations can continue next year. We particularly help our uniformed young people from the Scout and Guiding movements and participating local groups.

All money raised is for our community. Penny Allen, Secretary, tel. 01902 756125, For booking forms tel. 01902 758140

SUDOKU – JUST FOR FUN

PGA Golf Tips from Jeremy Nicholls at South Staffs Golf Club Academy..... In last months article we informed you of our up and coming joint venture with South Staffs Golf Club. For those of you who are possibly thinking of taking up golf, we offer not only individual tuition but a number of group sessions that we run at the Academy to get you into golf, whether you’re a senior, lady or junior. Our facilities also include covered and floodlit driving range, grass tee, chipping and putting areas , as well as a 18 hole Par 3, ideal for beginners and also for the more established golfer looking to sharpen their short game. Saturday Morning Junior Golf Academy: This is held every Saturday morning for 50 weeks of the year. The academy is run over 2 – 1 hour sessions. The 10-11am session is the advanced group who have been attending for some time and juniors who have some knowledge and ability regarding the basics of golf. The 11-12pm group is our “Get into Golf” session aimed at beginners and introducing juniors to the game of golf. The cost of these sessions are £4, this includes any clubs hired and range balls used during the hour. The sessions are aimed at keeping the juniors interested and motivated, covering all aspects of the game, starting with chipping, putting, range work and with the advanced group several holes played on the course when the weather permits. The beginners group, once they become more confident will also play a hole or 2 with myself so that they also begin to learn the etiquette of the game. Seniors Days: These days were introduced to encourage the retired golfer (over 60’s) especially during the week, when the course has quiet periods so we offer a discount to attract them to play. The senior days are Tuesday and Thursdays and we offer 18 holes on the par 3 at a discounted rate of £4. Both days are very popular and well attended. Ladies Mornings: We run these on alternate Fridays during the year. The aim is to introduce and get more ladies playing golf in a relaxed and informal environment. This group has a good core group of 8-10 ladies, with ladies joining us see if the game of golf is for them, and some progress to play on full size courses as well. Our Ladies mornings aim to bring together ladies who wish to enjoy a social game of golf with other ladies, both on these mornings as well as meeting up at other times to play. The mornings begin with the ladies meeting up in Café for coffee, between 9.30-10.00am, followed by 45 minutes group tuition with myself, we cover all aspects of the game, range to cover basics, grip, posture etc. chipping, putting, bunker practice, and any other issues the ladies raise regarding their game. This is followed by 18 holes on the par 3 course. The cost of our ladies morning is £10.00 all inclusive.

A Word From Paul Uppal......................... This week I continued my campaign to ensure Wolverhampton gets the train station it desperately needs, by asking for the Prime Ministers support at PMQs this week. I am thrilled to tell you that £13.5 million has been secured through the local transport and growth deal. I have always championed these essential improvements and I am glad the Prime Minister agrees. These improvements are essential for reducing congestion at peak times as well as regenerating Wolverhampton City Centre. This will be my final article before the General Election. Over the last 5 years, I have proudly worked hard for Wolverhampton. During this time the city has attracted millions of pounds of investment; creating jobs and apprenticeships. One of my proudest moments was securing the return of Barbabra Hepworth’s ‘Rock Form’ for the people of Wolverhampton to enjoy. Many visitors to the Mander centre have enjoyed her over the past 46 years and many more people will enjoy it for years to come. As we have seen in the budget this week, we are restoring confidence in our countries finances and continue to improve people’s lives. The NHS is always a priority and I will continue to campaign for investment in our health system, ensuring that patients get the best possible care and treatment. Moreover, the Chancellor has now announced that there will be an extra £2 billion funding every year for frontline NHS services in addition to our promise that NHS spending will rise every year in the next Parliament in real terms. Even though the election will soon be upon us, I will still be there to answer any concerns you may have or any problems you may be experiencing. At Smartkids we tailor the learning for our children so that we can develop truly independent learners. Our children come to us for tuition in all subjects; Computer Skills, Maths, English, SATs practice, 11+ tuition Languages and GCSE are just some of the subjects they study. We even run a homework club staffed by our qualified teachers. This not only helps the children, but is also great for their parents as it takes the stress away from them. We use computers to deliver our learning programmes. What makes us different is that many of our learners are working towards nationally recognised computer qualifications, and although many of them are still very young, they pass GCSE equivalent exams. With no exam nerves whatsoever, our success rate is 100%. All our learners are supported by “helpers”; older students who have passed their computer exams with us, and who now work as mentors for the younger ones. We also specialise in helping children with learning difficulties. Although they love learning, they often come because they find school frustrating and at Smartkids they can learn in a relaxed environment with teachers who understand their needs. To quote one of our children “I really love coming here because it’s so fun that it doesn’t feel like you’re learning but you are really!” See Advert on p20 for more information
