Tips From Your Local PGA Pro at Perton Park..... Become a master of the fringe Introduce some fun into your practise, while challenging yourself to improve. Take six golf balls, put them down on the fringe and then take aim at the flag, with the objective of getting up and down in two with every one of the six balls. If you are a low handicap golfer and you want to lower your scores, then stay at this until you get all six up and down. Make it a regular test. If your in the high single figure/low double digits, then stay at it until you get four up and down. If your handicap is higher start this drill with trying to get two up and down. Once you are able to do that regularly, progress to three up and down before you leave the practise drill. If you find you struggle, it might mean your short game is not matching your golf handicap. This will be holding you back. If so come and book a lesson we'll help you improve your up and down.

You Change Lives!

It’s National Volunteers Week 1-7 June, and it’s a great time to say a Big Thank You to all the volunteers across South Staffordshire who pitch in, and make a difference to the lives of the local community. We salute you all! If you do any volunteering or voluntary work at all, formal or informal, you probably already know what you do can change lives. If you are considering doing some voluntary work within the community, no matter how small you think it might be, you will improve the life of someone in your area. How good is that! If you want some other good ideas to help you (or someone you know to get involved, here’s a few ideas. We have over 300 volunteers and there are lots of reasons for giving up their time. Here are some of the reasons why people volunteer..... Top ten of volunteering 1. It's good for you. (and it’s not a salad!) It can reduce stress and can make you healthier! 2. It can make more of existing resources. 3. Volunteers can gain professional experience – might help in job hunting 4. It brings people together and it can be very good fun, you can make real friends. 5. It promotes personal growth and self esteem – you can use existing skills. 6. Volunteering strengthens your community. 7. You learn a lot. 8. You get a chance to give back. 9. Volunteering encourages responsibility. 10 You make a difference. Thank you. Every person counts! SUDOKU – JUST FOR FUN

At Smartkids we tailor the learning for our children so that we can develop truly independent learners. Our children come to us for tuition in all subjects; Computer Skills, Maths, English, SATs practice, 11+ tuition Languages and GCSE are just some of the subjects they study. We even run a homework club staffed by our qualified teachers. This not only helps the children, but is also great for their parents as it takes the stress away from them. We use computers to deliver our learning programmes. What makes us different is that many of our learners are working towards nationally recognised computer qualifications, and although many of them are still very young, they pass GCSE equivalent exams. With no exam nerves whatsoever, our success rate is 100%. All our learners are supported by “helpers”; older students who have passed their computer exams with us, and who now work as mentors for the younger ones. We also specialise in helping children with learning difficulties. Although they love learning, they often come because they find school frustrating and at Smartkids they can learn in a relaxed environment with teachers who understand their needs. To quote one of our children “I really love coming here because it’s so fun that it doesn’t feel like you’re learning but you are really!” See Advert on p12 for more information 14

A Word From Gavin Williamson............... Last month I wrote about the early days of the campaign, the thousands of leaflets we were having to deliver as well as the mountains of pork pies that were fuelling us through the long days. Since returning to Parliament the Prime Minister has commented on how tanned I was looking after the campaign and I assured him that it was due to weeks of leafleting rather than sitting in the sun. As with everything, the end had to come and the final few days of the campaign saw my team and I getting out the last few leaflets and canvassing as many areas as possible. Polling Day began very early, with the team and I decorating South Staffordshire’s very own Conservative Battlebus in which I hoped to cover as much of the constituency as possible to get out the vote and visit as many Polling Stations in the constituency as possible before they closed at 10pm. Back in our Association Office we had a dedicated team of volunteers on the phones calling thousands of people to encourage them to go out and vote. The Count is one of the most nerve wracking experience for any politician to encounter. Seeing the votes being counted really does make you question if you have done enough to win, especially when the voter turnout had been reported to be 10% lower than the actual figure. By the early hours of the morning adrenaline levels and moral were high as we were seeing a number of fantastic results declared across the country, but it only made me want to know mine even more. After a nail biting recount of one of the boxes, the result was declared at 6.45am. I was ecstatic to discover that not only had I won, but we had one of the highest swings in the country from Labour to Conservative, one of the top increases in the Conservative vote, as well as growing our majority by almost 4,000 votes. There wasn’t much time to celebrate as I was due to head down to London an hour later to meet with the Prime Minister to listen to the final declarations come in and begin to organise the first Conservative majority government for eighteen years. I was so happy to hear that all of our District Councillors have retained their seats and we have welcomed 10 new candidates to the Conservative team. This is a fantastic result which will enable us to continue seeing the competent governance and low tax that we have come to expect from our Conservative led Council. After 6 long weeks on the campaign trail you will no doubt be pleased to see the last of my posters come down across the constituency. This success did not come easily and it is down to the support, hard work and generosity of the team of volunteers and the people of South Staffordshire that made it happen. Thank you for all your support I look forward to continuing to represent your views in Parliament.
