David Cameron’s public admission of his families tax planning arrangements have brought the whole issue of what’s legal, what’s illegal, and what’s morally correct fully into the headlights as the hot topic of discussion for this article. Let’s be honest here, nobody wants to pay more tax than they are legally obliged to pay, so the whole moral issue of what’s right and wrong is really down to personal choice. Some people think that having worked hard all their lives that taxing our pensions, our savings and finally our family homes and goods on death is a very harsh system. Others believe that the more tax everyone pays the less the burden is on the state to look after everyone who is less fortunate than those who have wealth. My Job as an independent financial adviser and wealth manager, is to show people what steps can be taken to reduce or even eliminate the tax burden on their wealth, help them to manage the investments that they have (in a tax efficient and safe way), to set up the trusts and other arrangements that help to protect you and your family, and finally to help you to manage this throughout your life. The Inheritance Tax issue is especially touchy as so many people really don’t understand how much they can own before the tax becomes an issue, how much they can give away, how much tax should be paid on lifetime gifts, Wills and will planning, and lastly but most importantly how to retain control of your money and still be able to have effective tax planning in place to mitigate your liability. Most advisers will tell you the basics about the fact that you have a £325,000 nil rate allowance, the fact that gifts made to family or friends should not exceed £3,000 to any one person and any number of gifts of £125.00 to anyone you like, the fact that you can make gifts over the £3,000 but the donor (the person making the gift) must live seven years before the gift becomes free of all IHT. How many will mention Business Property relief arrangements using AIM shares to mitigate the tax within two years not seven. How many will be qualified to discuss Gift and Loan trusts, Bare Trusts and Family Trusts, and be able to advise you on which is the best for you? AT FSC Investment Services Limited we have developed a strategic planning approach to IHT which we can prove will suit all people and all sizes of estate. If you are concerned that you and your family have Inheritance Tax problems then please give us a call and we will be happy to arrange an initial no cost non obligation meeting to show you how we work, explain the costs and benefits of each arrangement and then you will be properly informed and able to make the right decision for you and your family. Tips From Your Local PGA Pro at Perton Park..... Introduce some fun into your practise, while challenging yourself to improve. Take six golf balls, put them down on the fringe and then take aim at the flag, with the objective of getting up and down in two with every one of the six balls. If you are a low handicap golfer and you want to lower your scores, then stay at this until you get all Six up and down. Make it a regular test. If you’re in the high single figure/low double digits, then stay at it until you get four up and down. If your handicap is higher start this drill with trying to get two up and down. Once you are able to do that regularly, progress to three up and down before you leave the practise drill.
If you find you struggle, it might mean your short game is not matching your golf handicap. This will be holding you back. If so come and book a lesson we'll help you improve your up and down.

A Word From Gavin Williamson............... As we head towards the summer months, I find that I get to spend more and more time outside. This time last year I was pounding the pavements during the General Election so I am really enjoying spending more time out and about in the fresh air of Wombourne. I recently spent time with volunteers from Staffordshire Wildlife Trust on Highgate Common to prepare the ground for ‘bee beaches’ and learn more about the species that live there. These beaches are essential habitats for the many different types of bees and wasps that breed and live in the area and are created in the sandy parts of the soil. It has been estimated that there are an incredible 140 different types of solitary bee & wasp that have been recorded as living on the Common. Some of the bees & wasps living on Highgate are extremely rare in the UK, and Highgate Common has been made a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of these rare creatures. It is so very impressive to see the work that is being done on the management of the site and it helps you realise how dependent all this good work is on the generosity and the support of volunteers to keep Highgate Common such an incredible and thriving place for our bees and wasps. On a rare sunny day I also spent some time with members of Springhill Cricket Club in Lower Penn, helping to prepare the playing surface and construct their new training nets that are being built for the upcoming season. It is really fantastic seeing how far the new facilities have come since the awful arson attack in 2005. I had a brilliant time getting to know the members of the club and would like to thank them for all their hard work and for putting up with my rather limited knowledge of cricket and for giving me an excuse to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. It has taken a huge amount of time, effort and dedication to get the facilities ready for the club and I hope our efforts will be effective in producing a good result for all the teams this year.
