“When the going gets tough I go to Grandma and Granddads.” My husband and I saw this printed on a tee shirt one day and smiled, and bought one. Little did we know that we would become some 16 months later one of the 100,000 Grandparents caring for Grandchildren in the UK. In 2011 11% of foster placements were with family or friends 7,430 children. But add in guesstimates of informal arrangements, and there are probably 2-300,000 children in kinship care a huge 1.7 -2.5% of the whole UK child population. There are lots of circumstances that lead children to being placed with kinship carers, family breakdown, abuse, substance dependency, or as in our case the sudden death of a parent and the inability of the other to cope, or the death of both parents to name just a few. However the path to becoming a Kinship Carer in not an easy one. After all we only want to keep our relative in the family, give them a secure and safe place where they feel loved, and will thrive. No, the path is very stressful. Dealing with Police, Social Services, Family Courts, Criminal Courts, Solicitors, Guardians, and of course birth parents, who although having been prosecuted for cruelty or neglect or both fight to have their child back, and as we all know sometimes they go back, to only be mistreated again or worse. In cases where it is possible of course also want to encourage contact with parents this again has its complications… Kinship Carers UK groups were set up to support those through these stressful times and give advise on services available to them. If you would like to come along and see what we are all about please do or email jckinshipcareuk@btinternet.com or phone Joy 07925348051 we are also on facebook. Meeting held on the 2nd Thursday of each month

A Word From Gavin Williamson............... Many of you will have read about my campaign to clean up the bridge situated by the Round Oak Pub after it has been repeatedly vandalised with graffiti. Residents that have contacted me about the bridge have also noted that the vandalism on the historic structure is also a threat to Wombourne’s bid to be named Best Kept Village. I cannot say how disappointed I am about this situation. I feel that in allowing the graffiti to remain on the structure will only serve to encourage more people to carry on with this behaviour. Whilst I accept that within all organisations budgets are tight, I think that it is absolutely ridiculous that local volunteers shouldn’t be allowed to undertake action in order to clean up this site. Unless I am denied permission to clean the bridge, I have told the Canal & River Trust that I will undertake the removal myself as I am very keen to try and improve the environment and the community of Wombourne. On a lighter note I visited St Bernadette’s Primary School to talk to pupils about my role as a Member of Parliament. The school is a very well respected school in Wombourne and it was a pleasure to see the outstanding work and how much it has improved over the past few years. The school had its best ever KS2 SATs results last year with 100% of six-year-olds passing the national phonics screening test for early reading, placing it in the top 5% of all schools. I would like to congratulate the school and also thank the headmistress and teachers for all the work they do in this fantastic school and I look forward to hearing even more about the success of school in the future. As we hurtle towards May, the House of Commons is already starting to wind down, the last of the Bills from this Government are being passed and many MPs are already well into their campaigns for the General Election. It is hard to believe that I have been your MP for almost 5 years now as it feels like only a short while I was campaigning as a candidate in 2010. People often say that in their line of work no two days are ever the same, this is especially true in politics as the agenda is constantly changing. Each week there is a different piece of legislation that we are required to vote on and in the constituency there are new challenges appearing on the horizon all the time. This said, I am looking forward to the challenges that the Election will bring.

Tips From Your Local PGA Pro at Perton Park.....

Make some basic checks to get back in the groove: Over the last few weeks we've been talking about the importance of regripping. We've established how crucial it is to play with grips that aren't worn and if you have been to see us for a re-grip then you're well on your way to passing your MOT. We want you to enjoy your best ever year at the club, so in a final effort to get your basics right, here are a few pointers.......
