School Holiday Childcare Sorted! Bright Stars Day Nursery is answering the call of local parents by opening a brand new school holiday club this Summer. Although there are some fantastic options for children to attend day activities, there is limited provision for all-day childcare in the local area. Bright Stars is open from 7am till 7pm and is renovating a floor in their new day nursery specifically for this purpose. There is already an exciting and active programme of events planned and children will be looked after by talented, qualified staff. For more information get in touch with Bright Stars on 01902 276242 or email enquiries@brightstarsdaynursery.com

Local charity chooses Wombourne for investment in Centre for Dementia Care: Local charity, Age UK South Staffordshire has chosen Wombourne as the location for its new day opportunities care centre for people with dementia and other complex needs. The Centre will be opening its doors for the first time later this Summer after the redevelopment and refurbishment of the existing property in line with the new use. The property benefits from a rural location, and a large garden with mature trees, as well as being conveniently situated close to Wombourne, and Lower Penn. The new day centre in Wombourne will complement Age UK’s three other centres at Penkridge, Cannock and Tamworth and will offer tailor made day opportunities to people living in Wombourne and the surrounding villages. It will offer door to door transport in specialist vehicles with trained drivers and escorts, together with home cooked meals and snacks, a huge range of activities tailored to each person, professional staff and access to all the charity’s services. The charity is already active in the area, providing care and support in the homes of older people, our telephone information and advice service, and a number of community services. Anyone interested in finding out more about the new Centre can telephone 01785 788 481 or www.ageuk.org.uk/southstaffs. We offer a free session to anyone interested in trying the service which can be booked in readiness for the opening.

A Word From Gavin Williamson...............
I always look forward to the summer, which I must admit is due to the fact that summer in South Staffordshire means it is carnival season. I greatly enjoy these events as they provide a great opportunity for me to talk with residents around the community about any issues they might have. I am looking forward to attending the Wombourne Carnival later this month which is making a comeback after its absence last year. I was so sad to hear that last year the Carnival would not be happening and I am so glad to see the Carnival back and I am looking forward to attending what will be a fantastic community led event. Upon returning to Westminster after the election, I heard about the proposals from the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, threatening to close three local fire stations located in Codsall and Bilbrook, Kinver and Brewood. I immediately began my first campaign of the new Parliament; to save all three of them from closure. These proposals could see emergency cover removed from 18 fire stations and see the number of appliances reduced from 42 at 33 stations to 15 at 15 stations across the region. What is incredible that of these three fire stations, the ones in Codsall and Bilbrook and Kinver are still in the process of being built. I have already called on Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service to reject the proposals as their closure could lead to substantial and highly dangerous gaps in provision for the Fire Service but I am shocked at the waste of money that would be involved if the fire service pursues this route. I have started a petition for all three fire stations to make the views of residents here in Wombourne and across South Staffordshire heard. It is absolutely vital that constituents can rely on a fire service 24/7, especially in the more rural areas. I entirely oppose what is being put forward and I will continue to push for these proposals to be dropped to make certain that our community is protected and Wombourne remains safe.
