THE CAMPUS OF A THOUSAND OAKS

Peru State’s “Campus of a Thousand Oaks,” a member of the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, is nestled in the hills of historic southeast Nebraska, in Peru. With over 60 million dollars invested in campus infrastructure over the past decade, Peru State is better than ever! Recent projects include the Oak Bowl stadium, the Campus Entrance and TJ Majors. Plans to renovate the Student Center and Delzell Hall are underway! The Al Wheeler Activity Center is home to Bobcat Athletics, the Health Center, gym and fitness center. It was constructed in 1980 and renovated in 2008.

The Oak Bowl, the home of the mighty Bobcats, has been called one of the most beautiful stadiums in the country due in large part to the nature surrounding it. It was hand dug in 1900 and renovated in 2014.

WHERE IS PERU? Campus is located just an hour south and east of the Omaha/Lincoln metro areas and about 2 hours north of Kansas City. www.peru.edu/visit

HONORS PROGRAM The Honors Program at Peru State provides our most academically prepared students the opportunity to explore key issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. Honors Program courses are small, allowing for an enriched learning experience characterized by interaction and inquiry. The program culminates in a mentored scholarship project. Students either qualify for admission upon entry to Peru State or can petition for admittance after completing their first full semester of coursework. www.peru.edu/honors

Students don’t just learn from textbooks at Peru State, they also learn through engagement and hands on activities. Many of our students have been nationally recognized for their undergraduate research, character, athletic achievements and in academic competitions.

STUDENT SUCCESS SERVICES (SSS) The federally funded TRiO SSS program increases a student’s likelihood of graduating from college by providing enhanced support for eligible students. First generation college students, students from limited income backgrounds, and students with physical or learning disabilities are encouraged to apply for SSS membership. Services include peer mentors and tutors, cultural outings, access to technology, and a supportive network of peers and professional staff dedicated to helping students succeed. Incoming freshman SSS members also have access to the Summer Bridge program, giving them a head-start transitioning to college.

CENTER FOR ACHIEVEMENT AND TRANSITION SERVICES (CATS) The Center for Achievement and Transition Services provides workshops, counseling, tutoring, career services, testing services, academic guidance, campus information, leadership opportunities and disability accommodations. “AND THEN I REALIZED ADVENTURE WAS THE BEST WAY TO LEARN. This statement came to life for me in the spring of 2013. Through a series of conversations and meetings I found myself in the Dominican Republic for a week. In that week I was able to learn about the environment, history, culture and people of the DR. During the trip, our group of 8 Peru State students, myself included, teamed up with the people of the DR to create an outdoor destination for citizens to enjoy and learn about their environment. Not only was there team work and physical labor, but there was also dancing and amazing food. This trip for me was once in a lifetime and I am forever grateful and honored to have been a part of this adventure.” ELLEN LARSEN, CLASS OF 2015

Peru State is focused on the development of our players using the values of servant leadership, sportsmanship, integrity, respect and responsibility to help them obtain life-long learning and achieved success. Peru State is home to the mighty, mighty Bobcat Nation! Way back in the 1880’s, when football was just starting in Nebraska, Peru State was nicknamed “The Teachers” due to our history as the Normal School (or teachers college). In 1921 Dean W.N. Delzell and “Baldy” Wilcox, sports editor for the student paper, decided the moniker didn’t fit. It was shortly after that the motto, “Fight like a Bobcat,” was proposed and the Peru State College Bobcats were born.
