THe Campus of a thousand Oaks
Peru State’s “Campus of a Thousand Oaks,” a member of the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, is nestled in the hills of historic southeast Nebraska. With over 65 million dollars invested in campus infrastructure, Peru State is better than ever! Recent projects include the Oak Bowl stadium, the Campus Entrance and TJ Majors. Plans to renovate the Theater and Delzell Hall are underway!
Our Campus Entrance got a major face lift in summer 2015. Expanded sidewalks, improved lighting, better drainage, a drop-off area and more have made for a great first impression!
The Al Wheeler Activity Center (AWAC) is home to Bobcat Athletic offices, the gym, Health Center and fitness center.
The Oak Bowl, the home of the mighty Bobcats, has been called one of the most beautiful stadiums in the country due in large part to the nature surrounding it. It was hand dug in 1900 and renovated in 2014. Eliza Morgan Residence Hall and Sapp Plaza is the women’s residence and outdoor event center on campus. Updated in 2012, it features the finest in residence hall room amenities. Sapp Plaza features a fire pit, outdoor BBQ and ample seating. It’s a great place to hang out with friends!
Where is Peru? Campus is located just an hour south and east of the Omaha/Lincoln metro areas and about 2 hours north of Kansas City. www.peru.edu/visit

Honors Program courses are small, allowing for an enriched learning experience characterized by interaction and inquiry. The program culminates in a mentored scholarship project. Students either qualify for admission upon entry to Peru State or can petition for admittance after completing their first full semester of coursework. Requirements for the Honors Program are a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher combined with being in the top 20% of their graduating class.
Student Success Services (SSS) The federally funded TRIO SSS program increases a student’s likelihood of graduating from college by providing enhanced support for eligible students. First generation college students, students from limited income backgrounds, and students with physical or learning disabilities are encouraged to apply for SSS membership. Services include peer mentors and tutors, cultural outings, access to technology, and a supportive network of peers and professional staff dedicated to helping students succeed. Incoming freshman SSS members also have access to the Summer Bridge program, giving them a head-start transitioning to college.
Center for Achievement and Transition Services (CATS) The Center for Achievement and Transition Services provides workshops, counseling, tutoring, career services, testing services, academic guidance, campus information, leadership opportunities and disability accommodations. Arts & Sciences
The School of Arts and Sciences
Engaged hands-on learning Center for Engaged Learning
The School of Arts and Sciences offers majors in art, English, liberal arts, mathematics, music, natural sciences and social sciences. A curriculum has been developed for each of these areas that is designed to meet specific degree requirements and provide preparation for careers in teaching and non-teaching professions.
The Center for Engaged Learning coordinates service learning experiences integrated with the college’s academic programs.
Internships An internship is a supervised on- and off-campus working and learning experience that allows students the opportunity to apply and extend what they have learned in their program to practical experiences while earning academic credit. Internships provide students the ability to connect and create contacts with prospective employers, which are key to building a professional network. They are also great résumé builders!
The coursework satisfies a wide variety of career goals by providing prerequisites for graduate and professional study, offering teaching endorsements at the secondary level and personal enrichment. Students often have the opportunity to work alongside faculty to do hands-on, graduate-level research and present their findings at state and national conferences.
PeruQuest
Peru’s International Field Experience Program
The School of Arts and Sciences is home to the Rural Health Opportunity Program (RHOP), a partnership with the University of Nebraska Medical Center that provides a full tuition scholarship and acceptance into UNMC for Nebraska natives interested in specific healthcare fields.
PeruQuest is a scholarship-supported, international studies experience that is directly integrated with the College’s general studies program. Students can earn academic credit while developing global perspective and skills valued by employers and important for civic leadership. www.peru.edu/cel
Opportunities to engage in the community abound. Faculty and students in the school host Jazz and Show Choir Festivals, History Day, Math Contest, theatre productions, concerts and more throughout the year. Our music practice rooms have some of the best views on campus.
Learn from the best! Art students can participate in our Artist-in-Residence programs.
Study Abroad & Service Learning I went on two study abroad trips with Peru State College to the Dominican Republic. On the first trip we went to Jaraboca and worked with community volunteers including a women’s association at national park. One of my favorite memories is playing baseball in a creek with Americans and Dominicans. On the second trip we worked with a foundation teaching kids and doing landscaping in the town of El Castillo. The town is actually in a national park! The kids have only one teacher who drives an hour up the mountain from Constanza to teach half a day. My favorite memories from this trip are teaching kids wrestling moves and running in the morning with our tour guide Hector. The locals loved to see us! Whatever you decide to do in college make sure it’s meaningful to you, but traveling abroad (and serving right here in Nebraska) with the Center for Engaged Learning and Dr. Taylor-Costello was a great college experience! Undergraduate students at Peru State have the opportunity to do graduate level research alongside faculty.
Form personal connections with professors, coaches and advisors.

Why am I a Bobcat? When I first stepped onto campus during my visit, I was instantly hooked. I grew up in small towns and was excited to return to that feeling after living in a city for a few years. There’s a real feeling that everyone is family here at Peru. I love how you get to know the faculty, staff and other students so well in such a short time. At Peru, you may not know exactly who everyone is, but you definitively get a sense for who they are and recognize them.
Rural Health Opportunities Program
But best of all, attending Peru State will help me reach my future goals in counseling. I get excellent one-on-one attention from my teachers, which allows for me to learn in an environment that benefits me the best.
RHOP offers so much more than free tuition. Not only does this program make it possible to leave Peru with little to no debt, it also gives the students a plan for every step of their education. With automatic acceptance to UNMC, I was able to focus on things other than graduate school applications and student loans. This is the perfect program for anyone who is committed to rural health care.

I’m from Caracas, Venezuela and I have been in the United States for six years now. I became a Peru State College student in fall of 2015 to play volleyball. My experience at Peru has been great! The staff and community have been very welcoming! I especially appreciate the athletic staff. My experience at Peru State will always be a wonderful memory! I first heard about Peru State College from friends while I was attending Southeast Community College and figured I would check it out. I ended up enrolling at Peru State the same day that I had my campus visit! Peru State was everything I wanted in a college: small campus, small classes, easy parking, and so much more. Within my first semester of attending PSC, I had found that there were countless opportunities on campus. Now I will be a senior at PSC and have been involved in Campus Activities Board, Rotaract, Phi Beta Lambda, the Top Cat Program and the Student Ambassador program. My journey as a PSC student has been a great one! I would highly recommend this school to anyone starting college or thinking about transfering. Peru State is home to the mighty, mighty Bobcat Nation! Way back in the 1880’s, when football was just starting in Nebraska, Peru State was nicknamed “The Teachers” due to our history as the Normal School (or teachers college). In 1921 Dean W.N. Delzell and “Baldy” Wilcox, sports editor for the student paper, decided the moniker didn’t fit. It was shortly after that the motto, “Fight like a Bobcat,” was proposed and the Peru State College Bobcats were born.
